@bigtimetapin I don't think it is as much, partly because C# in Unity (and Godot) is basically "manual memory management" in terms of managing a scene tree. That being said, it does make pointer-y things easier. Almost the same ergonomics could exist in C++ with weak pointers though.

@JulienBoyer_ We're going back to Unity with C#, in large part thanks to , and of course the asset store. If Godot improves its C# support (and supports .NET hot reload) we might consider it for future projects, but as it is right now Unity wins by far.

@mexicowboy_ Odin does look interesting, but I think for now we'll stick to C# instead of going to another systems language :) I would definitely consider it for something that needed a systems language, though I'm not sure if Jai doesn't win this fight (last time I checked it did).

@bigtimetapin A large part of the problem in Rust is that implicitly referring to things is problematic because of borrow checker rules, if you do shared ownership you risk having weird double borrows at inconvenient times. In C++ this is valid as long as you don't realloc objects.

Doing cleanup in our ~4 year old Unity project and found this gem, a grid based level editor built inside the Unity inspector, that actually allows placing doors/walls in-between the grid cells. Never really became a finished game, but still gives me happy feelings #gamedev
