6) Teachers should be paid almost 3x as much as they currently are. The demands are getting higher and they absolutely should be. A highly trained and financially stable teacher is extremely important. Every teacher I knew did a side hustle because their salary was too low.

1) Public schools were originally designed to sort people into elites vs common workers. The grading system was designed to imitate factory work. Grade A - F. This worked "fine" when America was an industrial powerhouse but most American work nowadays are service jobs.

2) The politicians that make the laws don't understand the needs of education anymore. They rely on lobbyists to tell them what needs "fixed". Unfortunately lobbying needs money and incentive. The people with the most money/power are test making companies like Pearson

4) New teachers are being overwhelmed. The demands to become a new teacher after 2011 are ridiculously hard (at least in Ohio). Their college education are also more about understanding state standards, data collection, and testing rather than specializing in their field.

10.2) Deadbeat parents - They don't care. They don't take care of their kids and then send them to school as a glorified babysitting service. The horror stories I've heard from this are tragic. They often raise the "bad kids" who frankly are more sad than "bad"

9) Parents are the only people the Board sometimes answer to because if the community gets angry enough they can be voted out, but this is rare since the board member needs to considerably mess up in order for that to happen. Parents have no clue about education 95% of the time

There are literally hundreds of other factors but the point is this. Education is broken in small to major ways on almost every level and we can't just magic wand fix it either. A school system isn't a tugboat, it's a battleship. When you move it, everything else has to as well
