🧵 Why do my family and I continue to take measures to avoid covid? 🧵 1.) Because we are not keen on dramatically increasing our likelihood of future ills. 2.) Because we have experienced loss, and seen in loved ones what this virus can do.

My hubs is in the trades, small business owner. Wears n95. Never been big in the trades, unless forced. Every single customer, "you can take that off in here!" "No, I can't, company policy." He's a sole proprietor 🤣 Gawd I love him ❤️

Wearing a mask is not a sign of living in fear. Quite the opposite, it's a sign of sticking to your guns in the face of intense (albeit irrational) social pressure not to. It's a sign of being strong as fuck, smart as hell, and doing what you know is right. 💪❤️

Here is a fucking idea - let's PREVENT a covid outbreak like what's happening in my dad's inpatient unit BEFORE it happens. So far, he's one of a very small portion of patients testing negative. They've isolated the NEGATIVES. That's how bad it is. Solutions to follow:

Here's a thought. Maybe low booster uptake isn't as much about fear or hesitancy as it is about so many people having had Covid in the past few months having to wait 3-6 months to receive it. Maybe it's been this way since we fucking abandoned mitigations and all common sense .

Who needs war to take us out? We're maiming our own kids and doing a perfectly good job ourselves of fucking them up forever. If I were one of the West's global nemesis', I'd be sitting back and laughing. Sars2, lead in lunchables, horrid ventilation in schools. We are unwell.

BREAKING: Lunchables have been found to contain dangerous amounts of lead. New research has also shows that Lunchables have chemicals found in plastics that have been linked to reproductive problems, diabetes, and certain cancers.

precautions and I was wondering about masks in the machine, if they supply MRI safe ones. Her reply to my concerns, "oh, haaaahaha, no we're all done with that, so over it, totally done with them except in a few areas." I could barely fucking say a word.

3.) Because it deeply matters to us that a large portion of the population is, more so than ever, excluded from society, and we live in solidarity.

I'll be talking to the hospital admin about this conversation, along with any continuation of this blatant ignorance during the appointment. And obviously taking my own measures at the appointment what's fucking new. Where I can, at least.

4.) Because classism, ablesim, racism, homophobia and general bigotry have for some disgusting mind shattering reason made a loud, more-visible-than-ever comeback and it parallels the pandemic disinformation campaign - we're having NONE OF THIS SHIT

My heart has broken a thousand times over the last few years, not because of what we can't do anymore, but because of the mass of people who don't care enough to help. I see you, survivors, and I love you ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you

From here hope takes over. Because the institutions have stopped protecting our old and disabled people. It's all up to us now. Fin, with love ❤️

complicates everything. This risk? To be my dad's voice and help him to fight to live when everyone thinks he should give up? This I will risk infection for. Not dinner at the fucking Keg, or whatever.

It's abundantly clear that we as a society can't rely on the vast majority of the public to lift even the tip of their pinkie fingers to do a good goddamn to slow down Covid. The experiment is over, individual responsibility has failed. It's time for strict guidelines and rules.

5.) Because we don't play stupid games of exceptionalist hubris like Russian roulette, and we understand that EVERYONE is vulnerable to Covid, while still honouring the increased risk to medically vulnerable folks.

@sassyashieOG We really need to look into that, "buying an island," idea with our peeps from here. Except it'll need to be a mountainous island to allow for the rising sea levels 😭❤️

@VirginiaBuysse @alexmeshkin @crwequine Add to that this new mentality that if a RAT is negative, one can go to work/school/gym/grocery store regardless of symptoms. We've never had this level of disregard for symptomatic social interaction. So much opportunity for multiple infections at once. It's very bad.

6.) Because we're not disillusioned to think that there will be a robust health care system the future, bountiful with fresh, well rested HCWs lined up to help us, so we'd best try not to repeatedly (or ever) be infected with a vascular neurotropic immune disrupting pathogen.
