Today I got a degree and ate cake aND got to walk the Breslin tunnel AND now get to end the night with a sleepover with my dog, so my day was awesome. Four years in the only colors has been such a blessing & it feels so surreal to say that I’m officially a Michigan State alum💚🤍
grief is really strange because I’ve talked to my therapist, taken time away from work, and have been reading a book about coping with trauma but my brain has convinced me that the only thing that will help is going to crunchy’s trivia night and having a cheeseburger
I read this and audibly gasped at “7 emotional support gerbils” and then again at “is it too late to move to a single room for my son and his 7 gerbils”
I never really understood the way shock works until tonight, when I drove home across campus through the swat teams & fire trucks, and I realized I have no idea how to process this. For all the understanding I have about gun violence, I’m at a loss as to what this means for us.
wishing a speedy recovery to the trowbridge marathon, the best place to get half a tank of gas and a Starbucks triple shot before getting on the highway🩵
@hope_awake
I was there covering yesterday too and found that the rally was where I saw some of the worst behavior from reporters. I’m really sorry you were treated this way, and I hope you & your friends are taking time to decompress.
Guys be like “Lansing isn’t ready for us” as if Lansing has never seen 4 MSU James Madison grads working in constituent services for Macomb and Oakland county state reps all wearing the same chinos to the office
Went to campus today and it kind of felt like sad grown up trick or treating (but with a side of happy because this is an awesome community). honestly couldn’t believe how many people came from around the state to be with us today. It was really good to see people out and walking
I kind of thought my early twenties would be a lot of “is he ever going to call me” in a relationship sense but it’s actually more of a “is he ever going to call me” in a reporter waiting on a source sense
Michigan’s hottest club is 127 North on 4th of July weekend. this place has everything: dads inspecting trailer hitches on the side of the road, campers towing boats and boats towing meat smokers, a pool noodle flying off the car in front of you, & me, just trying to get home
my roommate went on a hinge date recently where she was under the impression they were going to dinner but the guy just TOOK HER TO QUALITY DAIRY AND BOUGHT HER SOME CHIPS needless to say there will not be a second date
Professional News!! I’m so pumped to share that starting in February, I’ll be joining the team at
@GongwerMichigan
to report on state agencies and the Governor’s administration. There’s a slew of people to thank for helping me get here, so see below⬇️
@jonathanoosting
As someone who regularly kayaks this section of the Platte, this must have taken an INSANE amount of effort to pull off so it must have been one heck of a dispute
my spring break so far has been entirely sitting on the couch, watching the hunger games while doing embroidery. everyone please appreciate my new skill even though it makes me feel a bit like a regency era spinster
every week msu gymnastics hits my timeline with a new tweet about some awesome historic thing these gals are doing. that’s consistency. they are feeding the people. it’s like getting a little gift every week and I love it
I understand that greg screwed up but katie sitting up here on her high horse acting like she’s a perfect angel who did nothing wrong is really shitty
#bachelorette
MSU students have taken their place on the Capitol steps as speakers continue. I’d estimate about 150 people here on the lawn today, more arriving as I type this. Students are directed to come to the steps and sit.

I believe our newsroom venmo is

-news! we’ve received an outpouring of donations for food/coffee/anything over the last few days and it’s meant the world to us.
A uniquely Lansing dilemma: when the arraignments of Michigan’s 16 fake electors fall on the same day as Joey Chestnut setting the olive burger record at the lugnuts game
Not feeling the most Spartan strong today, 3 months after the shooting. I have a lot of anxiety in public places & recently I’ve been having nightmares related to Feb. 13. All this to say that if you’re not feeling okay, that’s perfectly okay. Don’t hesitate to reach out💚🤍
you just declined to provide dana nessel with the remaining 6000 documents to finish the larry nassar case and to provide closure to msu survivors but yeah we are totally besties
if every female reporter covering every state capitol shared every story of sexual harassment or times they were made to feel uncomfortable by male legislators/staffers/other reporters we would never stop reading
another Friday night in beast lansing, I say to myself as I tipsily clap along to the entire msu alumni band who just showed up at el azteco and started playing the fight song
I once spent $30 parking overnight in this garage (election night), I have cried in this garage, I have gotten job offers and rejections in this garage, listened to new taylor swift songs for the first time in this garage… I need one of these shirts
make sure to check your kids’ halloween candy this year. I just found a man with no expertise trying to explain a complex topic to the female journalist who covers it for a living inside my son’s snickers bar
Excited to finally tell everyone that I’ll be spending this summer in Lansing covering the Capitol & all things MI politics as an intern for
@MichiganAdvance
! I’m psyched to keep doing what I love & can’t wait to learn from such a smart & engaged team.
Hearing from Rep. Julie Brixie, who represents MSU. More senators and representatives are walking out to the steps as sessions break, including Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks.
@thesnews
Yesterday I was on national TV for the first time & oh my god I was so nervous. But SO excited to talk about my favorite topic (Michigan) & its voters. I love when MI’s political importance is recognized- thanks so much to the crew at
@VelshiMSNBC
for giving us the spotlight!
Snews alum here! The game was fun until your players would go too hard and we started racking up actual injuries. Maybe it used to be more of a meaningful tradition, but during my time it seemed like just an excuse to get physically violent & incredibly mean on social media.
Unfortunately
@thesnews
has told
@theblockm
that they don’t want to honor our decades long tradition of playing touch football the night before the UM-MSU game. Alumni on both sides, please share how much this tradition means to you to drum up support to get the game back on.
so the rumor is that Taylor’s going to play You’re On Your Own, Kid in Detroit because of the line “I play my songs in the parking lot” bc in 2006 she PLAYED TIM MCGRAW IN A PF CHANG’S PARKING LOT IN NORTHVILLE for a radio exec from
@995WYCD
oh my god please let it happen night 2
A few minutes ago on the MI Capitol lawn, nearby construction caused a few loud popping noises. I think everyone in the crowd, myself included, went on high alert in that moment. A reminder of this new reality.
welcome to lansing! no. you can’t drive there. or there. we promise we’re fixing them! definitely don’t drive on this road though. or that one because we ripped it all out. or any major highways. please don’t try to go to meijer
Whitmer is here. We’ve got chanting, “big Gretch” calls, huge applause. She’s hitting the highlight reel of her last four years in office- job growth, education spending, and, of course, ‘fixing the damn roads.’ “We’re gonna do this for four more years- are you ready Spartans?”
Some days in Lansing are pretty mundane, but some days you get to walk around with the AP Government teacher who got you into politics and show him and his students what you do & what’s so cool about state government. A fun full circle moment!
Came home to Traverse City tonight to spend some time decompressing (and petting Hope here). Still feeling a massive amount of guilt for not being in EL right now- if anyone has any tips on how to deal with this, please drop them in the comments!!
New: Ann Arbor is weighing a proposal to build a $250 million Sports Illustrated-branded hotel with 218 rooms, plus 50,000 square feet of convention center space and 80 condos downtown on the former Kline’s department store lot
Michigan officially has a 2023-24 school aid budget. Included: investments in busing in rural districts, free school lunch & breakfast for all students, and an increase in per-pupil funding. Story coming in

Plus, just piles of corgis. So many corgis. Also, Sparty petting a corgi. And lots of other very good non corgi dogs as well the dogs were really the stars of the show today
finishing my last journalism final and hopping on twitter to the news of reporters getting banned, more newspaper layoffs, and npr cancelling its summer internships
“Instead of speaking at her wedding as the maid of honor, I spoke at her funeral…instead of fishtailing her hair for a game, I curled her hair in a casket,” said the older sister of Hana St. Juliana, who at age 14, was killed in the mass shooting at Oxford High School in 2021.
michigan’s hottest club is the interlochen public radio office. this place has everything. framed photos of old men who invented npr. three oat milks in the fridge. word magnets. a bunch of people all wearing the same colors. some dude always playing saxophone in the other room
Not to flood everyone with grad photos but!!!! My college experience was so freaking cool!! Find your boss/org/campaign/own name in my wad of press passes from the last few years👀
Rep. Julie Brixie is joined by 4th graders from Okemos supporting a bill that would make the black swallowtail butterfly Michigan’s official state butterfly 🦋
well today was EXHAUSTING. sending lots of love to my classmates today, whether or not you went to classes. I feel like a 7:30 pm bedtime is calling my name tonight
According to an email sent to faculty today,
@michiganstateu
will be moving online for the first three weeks of the spring semester. Stay with
@thesnews
for updates throughout the day.
It’s officially paczki season in Michigan so I’m rating all the ones I try. First up is the classic Meijer paczki in the red box. I tried raspberry, my personal favorite. 6/10, could use a little more filling, and the sugar on the outside was a bit messy. The filling slapped.
✨personal news✨ I’ve headed home for the summer… to intern at
@IPRNewsRadio
! so excited to spend time telling stories about the places I love most & learning all things public radio! watch this space for content & all that jazz
Today has been long and unbelievably hard, so I’m glad to be ending it here. Hoping everyone in the MSU community who’s grieving right now has someone (feline or otherwise) to keep them company tonight<3
We had a guest at the
@thesnews
office today! Thanks to
@RepSlotkin
for coming in to be on my news podcast and to talk about the upcoming midterm elections. Stay tuned for a story & the pod, alongside photos from

Covering the aftermath of gun violence today in Oakland Co. court. I’m carrying Alex, Brian & Arielle with me as a reminder that every victim & survivor deserves to have their story told with care and dignity. Love to the Oxford & MSU communities today💚🤍💙💛
Really sad to update that Mozart passed away today at the vet. It was devastating not to be able to be there with him. I have tons of photos of him on my phone, so I wanted to share a few to remember our sweet guy by. He was such a kind, happy cat, & we already miss him so much.
A 🧵for Michigan/journalist/literally anywhere connections- with one semester left at Michigan State, I’m starting to look for postgrad opportunities! I’ve got 3 years of journalism experience, 2 in politics. I’ve spent the last year specifically covering the MI Legislature.
