Too many Indians in tech think their 15-20 years' experience will enable them to find a similar job in case of retrenchment. False. For many in 40-50 bracket, what they earn now will be their highest income in life. Ageism is real. Don't live in fantasy.

Decades ago, a mentor told me, "Focus first on becoming wealthy enough for your & family's needs and wants. After that, if you still have interest and enthusiasm, you can work towards uplifting others." Evergreen advice to those in 20s & 30s.

One of the best things I ever did as a mentor was convince 2 smart IIT / IIM grads to not waste their life in trying for IAS and instead follow the money trail when young. Both are in late 30s now, very comfortably well-off, quite happy, and thankful for the advice.

Hard work? All government employees? Have you lost your mind, @narendramodi ? India is what it is despite the government and babudom, not because of it. Anything that is 100% govt (irrespective of party in power) with no private sector participation is pure, unadulterated shit.

Nobody needs to have a child or a dog or do Asia trips annually or buy a car on EMI or spend 10k monthly on clothes / footwear / accessories. And who buys furniture or mattress annually? This so-called budget is a joke. Sit down. Zero marks. Redo homework.

Those who talk of India's demographic dividend in 2024 have never talked with tier-3 or below college students. We had a potential demographic dividend in 1990. Today, India has demographic garbage. The only ability of most youth is to convert O2 to CO2, nothing else. 🤷🏽‍♀️

So many urban Indians in their 20s-40s take 10 lakh+ car loan because they "enjoy long drives". Yes, they go for long drives. 1-2 times a month at most. But every weekday, they spend 1 hour+ stuck in jams. Paying interest to mostly drive at below 30kmph is 🤣🤣🤣

I.N.D.I alliance will double down on freebies and caste reservations. NDA/BJP will have no choice but to be more reckless fiscally. Another lost decade? Overall, a good reminder that if you have money to invest, diversify beyond just India. PS - Predicting the future is hard.

Youngsters who say "I'm OK to make less money to follow my passion" will generally end up regretting it in later life. Unless the passion ultimately makes enough money to get them to comfort, wasting working years on passion is a dumb idea because penury in older age sucks.

If your parents have net worth less than 10 Cr (excluding primary residence) and want to spend more than 2-3% of it on your wedding, you should put your foot down. Indian parents over-spending on kids' wedding is a big hidden-in-plain-sight financial risk.

If you're in late 40s+ and financially stable (low or no debt, good savings etc.) here's some contrarian career advice: Do not Lean In, Lean Back. Put your feet up and relax a bit.

Unpopular opinion: Plenty of Bangalore's startup-scene techies do not have the skills to be employed by large tech firms. Conversely, many large firm employees are deadweight only surviving because it's easier to hide in large haystacks.

The fact that someone has 10x or 100x of your net worth does not actually take away anything from your life, accomplishments, desires, or experiences. So you shouldn't let that affect your happiness.

An average perfomer who knows to navigate organizational politics (even if not play them actively) will go much further in their career than a high performer who cannot or chooses not to navigate organizational politics. You need not like it. But it's what it is.

If you pay home, auto, travel, health insurance premiums for multiple years without ever needing to make a single claim... ... ... ... ... you should consider yourself lucky and not think of it as "money wasted"!

This is a complete dumbass move. Credit Card is already linked to PAN so where is the need for any TCS, assuming the intent is to detect tax evasion? Unless this is a way for govt. to get an interest free loan from users of credit cards.

If someone pays more income tax in a year than the country's median annual income, follows all rules, and gets little to no benefits in return, then as far as I'm concerned they've done more than their fair share of contribution to the nation & society and owe nothing more.

The first thing that strikes me in any developed country, even on my 137th international trip, is just how functional, clean, and livable urban infra is. In contrast, India's largest cities are absolute shitholes despite (or because of?) all the government initiatives.

Always amusing to hear people who barely have a net worth of 50L currently explain why 1Cr or 5Cr or 10Cr today "will not be a large sum of money in 20 years". 🤣🤣

In my 20s, I dreamt of quitting my job to travel the world for a few years. But I didn't have the money and frankly, the guts to. If I did, I doubt I would have been FI in my 40s but probably would have had far more exciting life stories. Moral: Life is about trade-offs.

Be it #KarnatakaElectionResults2023 or any other state or LS2024, if you are middle class or above, you're on your own. BJP, Congress, AAP, or any other alphabet soup party does not care about you half as much as they do for their votebanks - the lower middle class and below.

Irrespective of how good you are at your white-collar cubicle job, understand this - you are NOT a "rockstar". Rockstars have thousands of fans and many fanatics. You, OTOH, can be replaced by another wage slave within the next month and be forgotten in a week!
