25 years in prison, published author, host of “The Rational Egoist” , prison reform advocate, disciple of Ayn Rand . Will listen to any rational argument.
Will the real libertarians please stand up? What happened to the classical liberalism of Mises, Hayek, Hazlitt, and Friedman? They’ve been replaced by a bunch of religious anarchists who are somehow pro closed borders and anti abortion.
Libertarian arguments for closed borders are not only wrong, but to me seem contrived. I mean it looks to me like they started out with a conclusion, and then fabricated arguments to support that conclusion. Thoughts?
Dave Smith, comedian, libertarian influencer, and regular guest on Joe Rogan, has called Tucker Carlson an American hero for his Putin interview. Thus Smith revealed the content of his own character, and why he shouldn’t be listened to.
When did libertarians start shilling for religion as a necessary component of a free society?
Why not just call themselves conservatives and be done with it?
Trump was nearly killed. That doesn’t make him a hero or a moral person.
Biden is old and diminished. This doesn’t mean he’s a good person, or was ever a good leader.
Kamala Harris is black and Indian. This doesn’t make her competent, or her policies desirable.
They all suck.
I am in utter agony. The love of my life is suffering, and will likely be gone soon. However, I wouldn’t trade one moment we shared together to avoid all the pain I feel now. It’s well worth it.
Does Marxism sound good in theory? In 1871 Menger, Walrus, and Jevons disproved the labor theory of value. In 1922 Mises showed, theoretically, the impracticality of socialism. In 1957 Ayn Rand demonstrated the evil of altruism. Marxism doesn’t sound good, in theory or otherwise.
I saw a political post today that said everyone has to pick a side. Okay, I pick the side that defends reason, individual rights, individual liberty, I.e., capitalism. Unfortunately, neither of the two sides the poster referenced is on this side. Therefore I choose neither.
Ludwig von Mises was the greatest economist ever. Ayn Rand was the greatest modern philosopher. How much better would the world be if their lessons were heeded?
Separate church and state.
Separate the economy and state. Separate health care and state.
Separate education and state.
I’m sure more institutions should be separate from state, but I’m tired and can’t think of any.
For anyone looking for strong arguments in favor of liberty, forget about the current crop of libertarian “influencers.” Read Bastiat, Mises, Hazlitt, and Rand.

says that if you’re an atheist, once you’ve removed god your next highest value becomes your god. He claims this is true by definition. This is palpably false, and leaves me wondering how anyone takes this seriously:
Did Jeremy Boreing watch the same interview between Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan as me? Tucker Carlson is arguing for God. He’s on our side. We should be applauding that one of the biggest faces in all of media, who was secular, is now arguing the total opposite.
The world needs more Frederic Bastiat, Ludwig von Mises, and Ayn Rand.
The world needs less social media “libertarian” influencers, wokesters, and MAGA.
Who agrees?
She blocked me, why exactly? All I’ve done is challenge her. I defy anyone to show where I’ve been disrespectful to her in any way. Is this someone who should be a leader of a movement?
In our debate you said there is no objective morality. If it’s subjective, how could someone get heroes and villains right or wrong? Of course, you also said you were okay with contradicting yourself, so I suppose you’re ok with this intellectually inconsistent position.
I had a great day yesterday. I went to Times Square with my amazing friend, Subby Scalora. Then I capped off the day with dinner and discussing philosophy with Mark Pellegrino.
Trump wants to imprison people for flag burning. Vance wants to tax people for not having children. Tell me again how Republicans are freedom loving Constitutionalists?
Following politics is exhausting. It’s a constant reminder of the irrationalism, emotionalism, and tribalism that grips so many minds. And at the end of the day, whichever side wins, the people who favor individual rights, individual liberty, and capitalism, lose.

Two months ago, I celebrated my 87th birthday. The occasion made me realize both that I needed to make provision for my book Capitalism: A Treatise on Economics entering the public domain upon my death, along with all of my other
Imagine what a better world it would be if more people took responsibility for their own wellbeing and happiness instead of blaming others for their problems.
Fear has nothing to do with it. I’m not proud to be white, or about anything else for which I had no say. I’m proud of what I accomplish by my own efforts.
I was raised by criminals, was a criminal, hung out with criminals, and spent 25 years in prison surrounded by criminals. I also spent a lot of time reading about the criminal mind. I can spot a con from a mile away. Hence I never fell for Trump, Carlson, or popular “influencers”
Many people associate Ayn Rand and her philosophy with politics. While she undoubtedly expressed a political vision, I find her emphasis on reason, individualism, and the possibility of moral perfection far more important than, and more inspiring.
Several weeks ago I saw a post from Libertarian presidential hopeful, Michael Rectenwald that claimed global elites were coordinating mass illegal immigration. I asked him for evidence, and he referred me to his book. I read the book, which didn’t mention immigration. Now:
First of all, her influence on Rothbard in terms of a realistic morality, natural rights, and the NAP serves the basis of much libertarian thinking. Second, you all hate her while most haven’t read her. Very telling, but what else to expect from a group run by mystics?
Ayn Rand hasn't been influential in libertarian circles since the 90s. She hated libertarians and none of us like her. Most of us haven't even read her.
@ninaturner
Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, minimum-wage laws, 40 hour work week, Federal Reserve, government/insured banks, Obamacare, bank bailouts … Doesn’t sound like capitalism to me.
America happened despite Christianity, not because of it. The United States was founded on the natural rights theories spawned by the enlightenment, the age of reason.
We must defend the Christian heritage and institutions that gave birth to America. Christianity is the key, irreplaceable element. If we lose it, it's not so much that America will fall, it's that America will become evil.
Sayings such as, “that’s my truth,” “that’s just an opinion,” and “there are no facts,” are the confessions of cowards afraid to confront the facts that humans are fallible, cognition requires effort, and reasoning is a volitional process.
There are few (if any) forces more destructive to to the human mind than faith. Yet it has a good reputation with a significant portion of the population. This is a problem, and a serious one at that.
I have now had opportunity to to participate in numerous threads where Objectivists square off against Mises Caucus type libertarians, such as followers of

. The classlessness showed by many of the MC people speaks volumes.
Remember the Declaration of Independence? Remember the principle of individual rights upon which this country was founded? The leaders of the two major parties certainly don’t seem to. More accurately, they don’t seem to care.
Ayn Rand presented a philosophy to achieve happiness, a blueprint if you will. Like any blueprint, extraneous factors can interfere with, or block its implementation. But following it will greatly increase our chances of success.
Closed border advocates: we’re pro immigration, just anti illegal immigration. Me: Oh, then the solution is easy. Just legalize all immigration.
Them: Huh?
What we hear from politicians: “Ban TikTok!” “Build a wall!” “Raise taxes on the wealthy!”
What we don’t hear: “Protect individual rights!” “Secure freedom!” “Promote capitalism!”
“All rational action is in the first place individual action. Only the individual thinks. Only the individual reasons. Only the individual acts.”
Ludwig von Mises
Ever notice Marxists have their own vocabulary? Exploitation, alienation, and wage slavery are just some examples of terms that obfuscate rather than clarify. What needs to be stated explicitly is that the entire socialist program rests on force, taking away the right to choose.
The war on drugs has been devastating communities for decades. Overdoses, thefts, gang wars, murders, incarceration are just some of its side effects. It also involves massive rights violations, and is blatantly unconstitutional. Why don’t more people care?
I spent 25 years in a cage paying for what I did. I worked incredibly hard to transform myself. I’ve been out for nearly 20 months, and despite suffering tragedy, am doing well. Yet some people attack me, and seem to hope I fail. Why? What do you think of this?
This is what full blown TDS looks like. He has some hidden anger that will come out one day probably against a woman like before because he is a pussy and has to attack people who are weak!

I now know what’s it’s like to love someone with my entire being. Unfortunately, I also know what it’s like to lose the woman I loved so entirely. The joy was incredible, and the pain nearly unbearable. The way to honor her is to press forward, but damn it’s hard.
I debated Michael Rectenwald on my podcast. I challenged his assertions on X. I wasn’t insulting, disrespectful, or rude to him. Yet this author of “Springtime for Snowflakes” blocked me. That hasn’t prevented him from insulting me on other posts, however. Any thoughts?
It’s a sad state of affairs when insults are equated with arguments, ad hominem attacks are thought to be logical refutations, and uncivil behaviors are counted as intellectual victories.
The moral foundation for my views is the Objectivist ethics. Life is the standard of value, and human life the standard of moral value. Right and wrong is to be judged by each individual based on what is in his or her rational self-interest.
“Some things are believed because they are demonstrably true. But many other things are believed simply because they have been asserted repeatedly—and repetition has been accepted as a substitute for evidence.”
Thomas Sowell
A misunderstanding of the Great Depression led to a massive expansion of government. A misunderstanding of the 2008 crash has led to a lot of anti capitalist sentiment, and to the embrace of illiberal politicians. Economic understanding matters. A lot.
Nothing illustrates the stupidity of tribalists like when they assume because you don’t support their chief, you must support the chief from their hated tribe.
A woman dm’ed me and asked how dare I follow her, and how dare I mention Ayn Rand’s name. To the first, I probably just hit follow all. To the second, Rand played a large part in saving my life, so I have no plans to stop talking of her. Finally, dm’s aren’t necessary. Block me.
When someone says there is zero evidence for evolution, yet also says there is evidence that spiritual beings are riding around in aircraft’s, should that person ever be taken seriously? See Tucker Carlson on Joe Rogan.
@ComicDaveSmith
I interviewed the reporter who broke the story you repeatedly reference. She says the story has been grossly misinterpreted. Will you listen?
@ComicDaveSmith
Can we define terms? What is meant by open borders and closed borders? Do open borders mean zero restrictions, no matter what? Do closed borders mean no one comes in, no matter what? Please clarify. Thanks.
One of the worst arguments for God’s existence is that without him, there can be no morality. So, the believer argues in essence, there can be no morality discoverable by reason, but since I want there to be a morality, I’ll believe in a God that reason can’t discover!
