THREAD 🧵 New names
Liverpool academy 2024/25: Several players who have yet to forge name amongst first-team that I think have the potential to have interesting seasons either in the academy or on loan.
The up-and-coming talents at a top club are obvious to see for the casual
Federico Chiesa played more league minutes (2206) in 2023/24 than:
Szoboszlai
Nunez
Gomez
Endo
Robertson
Gakpo
Alexander-Arnold
Konate
Elliott
Jones
Jota
Gravenberch
Tsimikas
Curtis Jones hit the 100 games mark for Liverpool yesterday
16 game unbeaten run began when brought back into team against Chelsea - featured in 14 of those matches. Not lost when Jones has played since January.
100 games, 11 goals, 11 assists. Scouser with the club since U9.
Thought this was really cool. Also brave.
Boston Red Sox player, Xander Bogaerts turned up to his post match press conference last night in a Liverpool shirt.
"Total coincidence for this shirt, just so you guys know
I don't play soccer but I like it the way it is”
On Tuesday Rio Ngumoha became Liverpool’s youngest ever player to play in the UEFA Youth League at 16 years and 19 days overtaking Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Mike Dean backing Taylor’s non-booking of Joelinton because he played advantage and didn’t technically stop an attack is some of the most baffling logic I’ve heard. It was genuinely funny.
Liverpool have just beaten Arsenal at the Emirates and kept a clean-sheet with 10 players from the academy in the squad.
Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Clark, Kelleher, Chambers, Gordon, McConnell, Bradley and Nyoni.
Elliott and Gomez also played academy matches one time.
Trent and Joe Gomez have no excuse to not have cut their holiday’s shorter than Mac Allister.
Darwin, Virgil and Cody Gakpo were all knocked out of their respective tournaments 3 days before Mac Allister played in the final.

Congratulations to Prince Cisse, who signs on as a first-year scholar for the 2024/25 season at Liverpool. Cisse is son of former LFC striker Djibril and has represented Wales at youth level.
Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Caicedo is a midfield rebuild of the highest order. Keep Thiago around as a luxury to that while bedding in Bajcetic for another year and Curtis Jones and Elliott as rotation options. Man, we look good.
Salah, Van Dijk, Klopp, Alisson and Fabinho all re-signed for the next 3 year at least. An elite spine that isn’t slowing down while refreshing players around them, ie, Mane, to keep things fresh and rejuvenated. Opportunities for youngsters to come in.
Good shape.
Following this Summer’s departures, only Trent Alexander-Arnold remains at Liverpool from the group of players who represented Liverpool U18s in the 2014/15 season.
Fair play
@LFC
, don’t even announce it. Just have him turn up to the tour of Austria in Summer on a bike with his helmet on with Klopp on the stunt pegs
Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni back training with Arne Slot’s first-team today as Curtis Jones back involved ahead of Nottingham Forest this weekend.
No competitive U21 fixture this weekend, although, Nyoni could be involved with U19 against Milan on Tuesday.
A nod to Jack Robinson who calls out his own fans for scouse chants this evening; product of Liverpool’s academy, the youngest ever to represent LFC in the Premier League and has 289 professional appearances.
He also once told Luis Suarez to fuck off after skying one himself.
Jarell Quansah 🏴(21) Ben Doak 🏴(18) and Lewis Koumas 🏴(18)have all been called up to represent the senior squad of respective country for the first time in the past week.
Rio Ngumoha is now officially a Liverpool player. The 16-year-old is one of the biggest talents in his age-group, leaving Chelsea for Merseyside.
Naturally, I am told the player is buzzing to get started having not played since early May.
Ah, a really bad period of mental health for me and a bad time in general with a lot I’m struggling to come to terms with. Me and my partner lost a baby a couple of months ago and it’s really, really hard. 7 weeks but found out at 12. It’s hardly gods work posting on Twitter, but
Lewis Koumas starts for Wales. This isn’t just a friendly or anything like that. This is an important match and Koumas has minutes because he can contribute at this level. His rise through the ranks has been brilliant.
Sepp Van Den Berg making 50 appearances for Preston North End feels a lot. Still a lot of football to be played this year.
Preston North End - 50
PEC Zwole - 22
Liverpool - 4
In summary: Naby Keita has been in the upper-echelons of Liverpool performers this season after turning a corner in his injury struggles but he has to do so much more for plaudits and significantly less than everyone else for criticism
While we’re on a feel good Darwin moment thought I’d share that I spoke to a family member of one of the academy players who went on tour and they told me that despite imperfect English Darwin Nuñez was one of the most encouraging of the younger academy players out of seniors.
Thiago Alcântara won more ground duels (7) than the starting midfield three combined (6). He played 27 minutes.
The biggest positive tonight is he left the pitch unscathed.
Erling Haaland has failed to score in his last three appearances against Liverpool, dating back to Salzburg.
Virgil Van Dijk has played with a different partner each time.
Mini-thread: Stefan Bajcetic
Bajcetic is a 17-year-old Spanish youth international that his split his time playing as a centre-back and defensive midfielder. Born in Vigo but of Serbian heritage; father, Srdjan Bajcetic played for Celta.
Liverpool have bolstered their first-team/academy set-up by adding Diogo Paiva from FC Porto who will act under the role of technical skills coach.
Paiva actually worked alongside Vitor Matos at Shandong Luneng in China and FC Porto.
Tell a Liverpool fan we’d be top of the League with Endo and Conor Bradley starting in the season run in - a regular with Stuttgart and Bradley, from the back of a League One loan with Bolton, it would sound rather confusing.
Now these players are a credit to themselves, they
📊 Ben Doak attempted and completed more dribbles than any other player against Karlsruher yesterday (4/6)
Equally, if not more impressive, Doak won more duels than any other LFC player both aerially and ground (7/10).
Everywhere.
Sepp Van Den Berg has just come on for Schalke for the first time since October after ligament injury and after 4 minutes on the pitch he scores his first Bundesliga goal to equalise for Schalke!
Ben Doak (18), Lewis Koumas (18), Calum Scanlon (18), Luke Chambers (19) James McConnell (18), Conor Bradley, (20) Jarell Quansah (20), Fabian Mrozek (20), Marcelo Pitaluga (20) Tom Hill (21) all named to travel to Belgium with Liverpool’s first-team tomorrow.
Youthful!

Ben Doak withdrew from the upcoming Scotland U21 squad. Scott Gemmill explained that he had asked to be rested in order to optimise

pre-season.
“He is really intent to go back to his club in pre-season and really make an impact”
£5m for Fabio Carvalho who offers depth across a number of positions/roles is mind-boggling - a year left or not. And he’s not just here to offer depth. Think LFC are in fantastic place heading into the Summer with smarter moves allowing for more incisive approach on top targets.
Jarell Quansah the perfect example of finding the balance in recruitment. If you can’t bring in a premium choice, maybe choice one, two of three then you should look to develop what you have.
He’s having a really really good break through season and that’s a credit to him.
Despite the media being absolutely correct that it’s criminal Alexander-Arnold isn’t being used in this England game, it’s both hilarious and disgusting they’ve also spent the summer tearing him down.
Whatever gets clicks. Always loved at Anfield.
Here’s the latest on 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢 who at this moment in time looks likely to remain at Liverpool for the upcoming season.

Trey Nyoni is on standby for tonight. Here’s a very brief profile I wrote on him a month or so go on his early days at

.
Trey Nyoni: Fleet footed and multi-functional. Floats. Rich run of form when first joining from Leicester. Composure in high pressure moments and final
Ben Doak directly contributed four times to a goal this afternoon. Numbers don’t tell a full story at all with Doak’s game but he’s putting them up consistently at academy level this season.
18 goals/assists in 19 games at academy level so far this season.
Includes a few details on reported

interest in Luis Diaz. Porto attacker is highly-rated but not on the agenda currently. Asking price (£60m plus) is too high for someone who would be back-up.
