The Football Black List celebration - supported by the
@PremierLeague
- brought together hundreds of people from the football industry and diverse communities.
The FBL film captures an incredible evening celebrating Black excellence in our game.
Can all the racists who posted after the Euros final at Wembley please take note…
Every single one of our penalty takers just now has Black heritage.

🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
There had never been a black Premier League Manager of the Month winner before this season.
Now we’ve had two...
Guess that’s what comes with opportunity... ✊🏽
Fabregas is an impressive pundit.
His coaching has clearly given him sharp analytical eye. (Not that he was a shabby player!)
He’s making his points concisely and not wasting words.
Love that he’s challenging his fellow pundits, too. Debate is good!
Levels.
Imagine a world where a failure to deal with racism in football saw:
- Leagues threaten to kick teams out
- FIFA and UEFA ban associated players from international tournaments
- Pundits become campaigners and refuse to work if issue remains
- Significant fan protests
The Ange Era!!!
Beating Sheff United at home in injury time and celebrating like we’ve won the Champions League.
Some will take the piss… but this is what team spirit and togetherness looks like.
The reaction of the team and fans to when we lose a couple in a row will tell
Glad to see Rudiger report the racism he witnessed/experienced to his captain, who then immediately flagged with the referee.
Good also to see the ref then follow the procedure.
Now I hope the racist dickhead/s are thrown out for good!
Racists - get out of my club.
The England players want to show the world they are together and united against racism and racial injustice.
So, they will take a knee. It’s the symbolic action they have ALL agreed to take.
If you boo that, knowing their intent, you are saying you against challenging racism.
Tottenham Hotspur have their first Black manager.
To many, they won’t give a monkeys and see that as irrelevant (which is kinda progress!).
To me, and many others, it is significant. Look at where the club sits - within a beautifully diverse community.
#RepresentationMatters
Thank you Gareth Southgate. That was blatant racism. You heard it. Thank you for calling it what it is.
For those managers who think it’s a political issue that a football manager doesn’t need to comment on... Take note!
Just a note while we are all outraged by racism aimed at our England players.
Let’s be this outraged & demand action when fans, players (current & former) at clubs we support have been caught racially abusing others.
That’s the real test of how serious we are in this fight.
Can’t believe I’m even tweeting this… but history tells us that when someone makes a mistake in a big England game the idiots come out to play.
Lauren James made a mistake.
Lauren James is human and will learn.
Don’t even think about going there with abuse.
Solidarity with
@wes_foderingham
👊🏽
I know I speak for so many Spurs fans in saying any racist abuse or family threats are completely unacceptable and these people should be found and banned from coming to our games. Make that any games of any club.
Social media platforms must
Strong start to the ‘Voices from the pitch’ session at
#EqualGame
conference.
@YayaToure
asks, “Is the Italian FA here?”
Silence... then a “yes” from the organisers.
He continues, “Because I want to know what they will do?” Re: Racist abuse of Moise Kean.
Chris Hughton sacked because of poor form at end of the season.
Anyone watch Brighton away to Spurs and Arsenal 🙋🏽♂️
Plenty signs there that Hughton can keep Brighton punching way above their weight. An FA Cup semi too 👀
Let’s call this decision what it is... a disgrace.
Spoke to
@YayaToure
about Nicholas Pepe a few months ago. I wanted to know if the hype was real...
Yaya is pretty measured when praising players and he was very upbeat about him. Said if he came to the
@premierleague
he’s got everything needed to be a star.
Congrats Sol Campbell.
And congrats Macclesfield - a club that has now given an opportunity to 3 black managers in just over a decade. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
(Keith Alexander, Paul Ince and now Sol Campbell)
Great to see Spurs fans lining up to sign this banner against racism - in solidarity with Danny Rose.
If you’re on the High Road and want to support drop by M Cafe!
Huge big up to
@chrispaouros
&
@SpursLGBT
for organising 🙌🏽
It’s
#WindrushDay
and I’m thinking of my grandparents, uncle and mum who travelled to London from Jamaica.
Some things worked out, some things didn’t.
An imperfect story but undoubtedly their brave decision helped opened many doors that I am eternally grateful for 🙏🏽

@vinijr
If we want change we have to look beyond asking leagues and authorities to stop racists.
We need to look at who funds those who refuse to change.
Commercial partners, broadcasters… they will be listened to.
No more ads. Use your actual power.
Lots of people asking what they can do to support Black Lives Matter and anti-racism generally.
Do what Ben Mee just did.
Care.
Then take action.
Applying this principle will shift us forward lots.
Leaders in sport and the sports media take note.
Big up Darren Moore.
He’s dealt with disappointment last season, battled covid that put him in hospital and gone on to instill belief in his team.
All those points this season. Now he’s got what he deserved.
Let’s give talented managers the praise they deserve!
👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
The garbage I’ve read on here since the booing of taking a knee.
It is NOT similar to Les Ferdinand’s stance. He disagreed with only taking this symbolic action WITHOUT real action.
And the symbolic action is NOT supporting a political party.
Be anti-racist. Don’t boo.
Dear Gareth Southgate,
Please continue to ignore us all.
We will all continue to have opinions and zero accountability. You will get on with your job.
Onto the next…
There’s rivalry and there’s racism.
I’m sure every Spurs fan will join me in hoping the ignorant racist who threw this banana skin today is banned for life and never comes near the club again.
Glad the police identified and got them out swiftly.
Bottom line for me is taking a knee is a symbolic action against racism.
Your response to this will either be anti-racist or racist.
No doubt the debates will rumble on about how long they take a knee, it’s impact etc but VITALLY this booing is not a debating point.
An important moment.
An important tweet.
Congratulations
@DilanMarkanday
👏🏽
Well done
@SpursOfficial
for recognising this achievement and it’s significance 👊🏽
The first ever British Asian – as well as the first player of Indian descent – to play for our men’s first team in a competitive game. 💙
Congratulations on your debut,
@DilanMarkanday
! 👏
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...
Things change when the money is impacted.
I’m struggling to see the good guys in this situation over the last 48 hours.
But I can absolutely see the good outcome when everyone gets together and is determined to bring about change
This racist chanting is pretty clear on 5 Live. Glad it’s just been mentioned.
It’s not a ‘strange’ atmosphere... that noise is racism unless I’ve been living under a rock all my life or there’s a new trend I’m unaware of.
Am I missing something here.
I’m seeing “Mourinho fuming at officials” as a headline when actually I’m sure the editorial line should be “Mourinho oversteps the mark”.
We cannot have that behaviour in football or society. I’m sorry but it needs calling out not ignoring.
The banana skin shocked me last week. The racist crap aimed at Sterling has not.
So, so glad it was caught on camera. If it wasn’t, and someone dared to suggest it happened on here their timeline would be full of accusations of them trying to create problems for a club...
This footage of
@ChrisPowell1969
and
@BukayoSaka87
represents so much about yesterday.
Many of us did exactly the same outside the stadium with our loved ones to support & shield them when it got wild.
Lets keep looking out and reject those with absolutely no respect for others
Booing of the taking the knee.
Zero ethnic diversity in the punditry team for the first game of the season.
Can’t lie. This broadcast left me questioning a lot.
BUT we continue to push on… and challenge the obvious issues that exist.
Tiring as hell.
I’m kinda speechless.
@bcomstweet
was an idea on a pad. Now it’s a movement. A credible, progressive vehicle to create change.
We are evolving - with a long way to go. But today we stood with
@MayorofLondon
@T_Deeney
& hundreds of supporters.
We are opening doors. 🙏🏽
Gutted.
For those of us raised on watching Arsenal in the Champions League, while Spurs struggled for the Europa... Poch was a god.
Context is everything in football.
I fully expect to see him lifting the Champions League trophy soon... as for us 🤷🏽♂️
Yes
@jonsarno
👊🏽
All those job applications. All those rejections.
You’ve now made history having only been in charge for a short time.
This is what “best” looks like!
To all the chairman and CEOs who only see “best” in their own image... please take note!!!!
An incredible achievement. 🇬🇾
In his first managerial role, our Club Ambassador and former captain Michael Johnson has guided Guyana to the finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time in their history. 🙌
Congratulations,
@Jonsarno
! 👏
I look at this and think one thing and one thing only…
Andrew Cole has been so disrespected and under valued. Never given the credit he deserves.
Owning this record for so long… 🔥
The lack of Black representation in football’s Boardrooms is a big issue
43% of the Premier League and 34% of the EFL is made up of Black players according to The Black Footballers Partnership.
There is 1 Black board member across 20 Premier League clubs.
I shared some
@lemnsissay
@BostonLogan
@British_Airways
Why do I feel I’ve been here many times… 😮💨
The assumptions and then extra scrutiny - pretty much every time - is exhausting.
I travel in a tracksuit and baseball cap. I won’t dress up for them.
Spent a fascinating evening speaking and listening to
@SadhguruJV
All about looking after your machine to be able to deal with the increasing activities we ask of it. He’s a big football fan too - looking forward to the World Cup.
I used to report on sport and interview the stars. These days I spend more time talking racism, exclusion & discrimination on the box...
No complaints though. What we are pushing for is industry changing. It will make it sooo much better.
Let’s get on with the action...
Back in London after a great day at Manchester United.
Always great to see Cath on reception. Never forgets your name. No idea how she remembers.
Brightens up your day the minute you step in the building. A super lovely person in the game!
What the actual....
International 👀 decision makers. Global.
I repeat again. Global. 🤬
One woman. Zero black people.
I could go on (and on) but I don’t want to insult people’s intelligence...
This picture says so much.
QPR take this position with confidence & credibility.
I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time around the club and see their actions on diversity.
They have literally stood up and said follow our lead. How many clubs are ready to commit to the action that brings real change?
It may be entertaining BUT please can we not allow “Spurs fans” calling for Poch to be sacked to be given a national platform on the radio.
It’s a view representative of 0.001% of the Spurs fan base. So deserves that much attention.
Merci. 😤
If you pay football ground stewards minimum wage (or near) then we shouldn’t be surprised by many having minimum interest in providing the service required.
If you need a better service, you’ve got to start by finding money for it. Protecting players & fans must be a priority.
RIP Desmond Tutu 🙏🏽
“I am not interested in picking up crumbs of compassion thrown from the table of someone who considers himself my master. I want the full menu of rights.”
This is the ENERGY 🖤
RIP Christian 🙏🏽
You had a huge impact on me. Your kindness, your generosity, how you carried yourself with such grace.
It was a blessing to know you.
Thoughts and prayers with your family and all those impacted by this terrible tragedy in Turkey and Syria.
The “parting of ways” of Darren Moore and WBA reminds me of when Newcastle “parted ways” with Chris Hughton all those years ago... 🤔
Darren will follow Chris to establish himself further as a top manager. But a massive shame both have now had to go through this BS.
Enjoyed working with Mark Lawrenson during my time on Football Focus.
He would look everyone working on the show in the eye and engage with them. Ask you how you were.
That doesn’t always happen with pundits/presenters/reporters.
Wish him well for the future 👊🏽

⚠️ALERTE GÉNÉRALE⚠️
@YayaToure
vient d'ouvrir son compteur but avec Qingdao Huanghai. Superbe centre de Cleo pour la tête de Yaya. Pour le moment le score est de 1-5 pour Qingdao face au Xinjiang
Dear Production companies making the many, many documentaries on racism in football…
Any chance you could look at your own diversity while you’re at it? Board, leadership team - not just crew.
Commissioners. This should be part of your job!
This isn’t rocket science.
Gareth Southgate.
A classy guy. A good man. A modern day leader.
How lucky are we to have him and this group of brilliant people playing for England.
Results will always be the bottom line but the way these guys are delivering is next level.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
It was a huge privilege to be at the opening of the Ugo Ehiogu pitch in Tottenham today.
Great to see colleagues, friends and so many amazing children at the facility.
Well done to everyone that made this happen. 🙌🏽
#DoSomethingKind
It wasn’t long ago we were all posting
#BLM
and educating ourselves about racial injustice in society.
Let’s keep that energy, watch and learn from
@anton_ferdinand
’s documentary at 9pm on BBC 1 tonight.
👊🏽
Woooooooow! What a day 😮💨😅
The
@FootieBlackList
made a BIG noise and I am delighted with the support we’ve received across the game, media and community!
Rodney and I founded the list, but it belongs to the community. And having this level of support means everything 🙏🏽
This is awful 😞
Chris Bart-Williams was the baller we all talked about at school. He was the Haringey boy who made it pro. All of us Haringey school boys wanted to follow in his footsteps.
The way he played 🔥 Skill, intelligence on the ball, passing for days.
RIP 🙏🏽
Just spent some time reading through replies to my black managers tweet. 🧐
This keeps coming up;
“if you’re good enough, you’ll get the job!”
Erm, how do you get chance to prove you’re “good enough” with no opportunity to even interview let alone do the job? 🤷🏽♂️
Congratulations to
@LFC
🏆
On a personal note, very proud of
@J_Gomez97
- a proper humble lovely guy. Seeing his rise from breaking into the Charlton team to this level of deserved success is inspiring. Well done, Joe! 👏🏽
Humbled and grateful to be recognised by the

In football you have to take the rough with the smooth...
Congratulations Liverpool. Made up for my boy
@J_Gomez97
Am I gutted? Yes. Big time. But sometimes you have to accept it just wasn’t meant to be your day. 🤷🏽♂️
#COYS
@zakkwaltonn
Irrelevant to you. Which is fine. Meaningful to the many Black people shut out of leadership roles in football and across society. Maybe leave them to have a different view 🤷🏽♂️
I can’t sleep...
The
#FBL2019
tonight was... 🔥
I’m so proud right now and thankful. Thankful for amazing people making change.
Big thanks to my team on delivering tonight, the
@premierleague
for supporting and the black community for turning up each and EVERY time 🙏🏽
Diversity in the media tweet...
Want diversity? Let’s make it happen fellow journos/contributors.
When you are next asked to be on a panel... ONLY accept if it is diverse.
If we all do that. It changes. Overnight.
Let’s do this ✊🏽
.
@sterling7
makes a good point! The portrayal of black people by the media does fuel the racism we see in society.
Imagine a more diverse media. The important debates take place BEFORE stories are published and broadcast.
@bcomstweet
is trying to fix this in sport (unfunded!)
Must say
@JNETTEKWAKYE
is an outstanding trackside reporter. Has a great rapport with the athletes - you can tell they trust and want to speak to her. Questions are always strong. And tone of interviews spot on (easy to get wrong, trust me). Bravo! 👌🏽
Yesterday was a good day. As a birthday treat, I took my eldest daughter to White Hart Lane for her first time!
I started my WHL journey with a win too back in 1989. Hopefully she sees a few more trophies than me... 🙏🏽😂
Big thanks to
@premierleague
for the kind invite.
We’ve been working on this for a while, so I’m buzzing we are now able to share the news.
40 young people will get an incredible opportunity. It will open doors, help build contacts and confidence.
Please do spread the word. 🙌🏽
Time for some good news...
We are delighted to announce the launch of our ‘Diversification of the Sports Media Programme (Euro 2020)’ in partnership with

This is POWERFUL 💥
So good to see Patsy and Akil featured in today’s
@WomensSport
Akil is an assistant ref in the Championship who was inspired by his mother, Patsy.
Two tremendous role models leading the way in refereeing 🙌🏽
Huge, huge round of applause for Chris Hughton as he goes up to announce the League One manager of the year at the
@LMA_Managers
awards.
The respect for him in this room is massive.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Loving the celebration of the diversity of this
@england
team.
I’m looking forward to the day we see British Asian footballers in the England mix too 🙏🏽
The visibility of the diversity of England’s fans has also been amazing.
I took this video after the semi final 😍
Amazing turnout for the unveiling of the Celebration Statue honouring Brendan Batson,
@cyrilleregis
and Laurie Cunningham.
The pioneering players changed football and society. We all owe them a great deal.... 🙏🏽
A privilege to be here on this important day.
I remember when I worked for Kick It Out back in 2006, I wrote letters to about 50 players at their clubs. With hindsight, not a great method to reach out...
Only
@DarrenBent
got back direct. Called me and simply said: “What can I do?”
Top guy 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Why is context so difficult for so many to grasp?
Look around. Listen to others. Read. Understand inequalities and what led to them.
If that fails, ask your mates to help you get your head out of your backside.
So glad the cameras caught
@OfficialTM_3
flagging up racism to the officials when we all heard it.
Although it made me feel for all those players that have done the same over the years but were ignored or accused of using a ‘race card’.
