Bought quite a few shirts during my recent hiatus. I'll be showcasing them in due course.
Here's one of my favourites - the 1993 Luxembourg away. Adidas deploy their rather chaotic 'Ideal' template with a truly wonderful red & blue-grey colourway (Cremonese eat your heart out).
Boavista Futebol Clube 1990 home by
@hummel1923
.
Finishing 4th in Primeira Divisão behind the Três Grandes, Os Axadrezados qualified for the UEFA Cup.
At the heart of the side was English central midfielder Phil Walker, who made 193 apps for the Porto club, scoring 7 goals.
Japan 1992 away. The only 'Equipment' template kit I have in my collection*
*notwithstanding the Liverpool 1991 away my Red supporting uncle gifted me aged 9. It was immediately confiscated by my old man upon arriving home from his nightshift. Had it in my grasp for a few hrs 🤣
Brazil 1991 World Cup of Masters kit.
Also known as the Copa Pelé, this was the 4th edition of the veterans competition.
Held in Miami, it sort to popularise soccer in the States before USA 94.
Zico led Brazil to a 2-1 victory in the final against fierce rivals Argentina.
Penarol 1998 away. Love how
@Reebok
sought to make their insignia an integral part of the design.
This template was used by a few national teams e.g. Chile, Andorra and Gambia. Plus the likes of Bastia and Tolouse at club level.
Anyone got this template in their collection?
Some associate the 80s with Thatcherism, mass unemployment, coke addled bankers, football hooliganism, bad hair cuts and Bananarama.
I prefer to think about the kits.
Here is a rundown of the top ten 80s shirts from my personal collection (a thread) ...
Completed an inventory of my classic Calcio kits from the late 80s & early 90s.
The era saw some manufacturers experiment with innovative abstract geometric patterns. Meanwhile, others maintained the classic, minimalist designs synonymous with the past.
Godetevi il viaggio
Bari 1994 third by Adidas.
With former player Giuseppe Materazzi (Marco's papà) at the helm, the newly promoted side finished a respectable 12th in Serie A.
The Biancorossi were fired up the table by Sandro Tovalieri, with Il Cobra amassing 17 goals.

With elite clubs distancing themselves from the working-class communities from which they were borne, lower tier teams have filled this void.
As an activist historian myself, here's 5 grassroots clubs whose shirt designs highlight the fight for social and political change.
Thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and show-off my top vintage pick-ups from 22.
I've tagged people whom I've purchased from/interacted with this year (apologies if I've missed anyone out). Thanks folks. Have a great New Year.

GE Novorizontino 1991 home & away. Originally named after a shoe factory, Tigre do Vale reached the Campeonato Paulista final in 1990, before winning the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C 4 years later. This would prove to be their zenith, with the Novo Horizonte club closing in 1999
São Paulo Futebol Clube 1988 home & away.
A disappointing season for the Campeão de Tudo, who finished a lowly 11th in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
Despite this, it was the break out season for future club legend Rai, playing as no.10 in an attacking midfielder role.
Associação Portuguesa de Desportos 1996 away.
Whenever I add a new Dell'erba shirt to my collection, I'm always keen to see which kit design it's inspired by.
I'm pretty sure I know this one, but can any one else hazard a guess?
Clube Atlético Bragantino 1991 match worn home & away. That season Massa Bruta were Campeonato Brasileiro Série A runners-up; debuting their iconic geometric Dell'erba kit at the 1992 Copa CONMEBOL. In 2019, they were purchased by perennial heritage busters Red Bull & rebranded.
Urawa Red Diamonds 1994 away (cup shirt).
More difficult to source than the league shirts from Mizuno, I absolutely love Puma's use of geometric patterning - not to mention that rather delightful font.
A short shirt scammer story ...

I particularly enjoyed the precise moment he finally realised i was wasting his time ... "Bastard" 🤣
Esporte Clube Bahia 1988 home by Adidas (unsponsored version). That particular season, the Bahiaço won the Campeonato Brasileiro for the second and final time. Known as the esquadrão imortal or immortal squad, they were led by mercurial winger Bobô and legendary striker Charles.
I made the mistake of purchasing a shirt off Goose earlier this year. It arrived damaged. What followed was the strangest exchange I've ever had on the kit community. Screen shots below. I'll let you guys decide what kind of person he is ...
1994 Tokyo Verdy set. These don't need an introduction. According to folklore, the iconic green was chosen by club legend - São Paulo born George Yonashiro, paying homage to Brazilian club Palmeiras. In 239 apps he notched 92 goals from midfield, before returning as coach in 1986
My ABM collection.
*I've accepted that it will never be as good as
@grannysfootball
's. As Monty from Withnail and I says:
"It is the most shattering experience of a young man's life when one morning he awakes and quite reasonably says to himself, "I will never play the Dane"."
Argentinos Juniors 1992 away.
A lovely example of the so-called military medals template also used by the likes of France, the UAE, Iceland, Ghana, Venezuela, Poland, Czechoslovakia, & Bari & Montpellier at club level.
Thanks to
@ARGshirts
for helping me source this 👍
Another addition to my Torquay X Nike X ProDirect collection.
This is the 2021 third shirt, which commemorated 100 years playing at Plainmoor.
It features the original black and white stripes, worn during a 1-0 Western League win over Weymouth on 3 September 1921.
Can we take a moment to remember the incredible work Nike and ProDirect did with Torquay United between 2019 and 2022 ...
Still need the 2019 home, away & third, as well as 2020 third and 2021 third. If any one has them in large, let me know.
Up the Gulls!
Used to have so many 90s J-League shirts, but decided to streamline my collection over recent months. Following the cull, I'm really happy with the remaining trio.
The gathering roar ...
A selection of my Club Universidad Nacional/Pumas shirts.

Thanks to

for this absolute beauty. Arrived from Ireland in a wonderful package in only a matter of days (despite the best efforts of the Royal Mail to f
@ck
it up).
This is genuinely heartbreaking. Right on the front of the shirt beneath the neckline ... 😫
You'd think the importance of quality control would be elevated on a limited release shirt ... 🤦🏻
Selling a few 90s shirts to make space. Add £4 for UK delivery (international buyers please request postage costs).
Any questions about size or condition, drop me a DM. Thanks.
Red Star Belgrade 1997 home. As worn by the legendary Dejan Stanković, who that season became the club's youngest ever captain at the tender age of 19.
Always intrigued by the Colo Colo side that won the Copa Libertadores in 91. Under the stewardship of Croat Mirko Jozic, they beat that incredible Boca side, before overcoming Olimpia in the final.
They had some serious talent: Barticciotto, Yanez & Espinoza.
Plus the kit 😍
Apart from the club that you support, give me a football team that you always admired or reminisce about.
I loved the Red Star Belgrade team that won the European cup in 91 or the Sampdoria team of 1992 (Vialli, Mancini etc).
Teams from any league or era.
🇷🇸 🇮🇹
1984 RWD Molenbeek by Diadora.
A shirt so 90s, that it can only be worn when dancing to N-Trance's 'Set You Free' whilst washing down a gram of cheap speed with a room temperature bottle of Blue WKD ...
Chicago Power 1990 away. The Power competed in the Major Indoor Soccer League, which ran from 1978 to 1992. Their star man was former NASL forward Pato Margetic. Following a brief stint with Dortmund, the Argentine earned the moniker Magic Man; scoring 129 goals in 143 MISL apps.
Enjoying their inaugural (and only) top flight season, minnows Huracán Corrientes hosted River on 13 Nov 1996. Having taken a shock 2-1 lead on 26th mins, the ref disallowed the goal and suspended play when River GK Roberto Bonano was hit by a missile. Huracán lost the game 2-1.
Diamonds are forever, forever: 1991 Goiânia Esporte Clube home. Founded in 1938, the Galo Carijó's first board of directors included renowned writer Venerando de Freitas Borges. As the 1st mayor of Goiânia, he also officiated the club's early games, of which they only lost one 🤣
Finally managed to track down the Associação Chapecoense de Futebol 1994 third by CCS. 😍
*as someone who has gone on record as to disliking green kits, I don't half seek them out ... 🤦🏻♂️
Grail número dos from
@elclasicokits
. This is the Colo Colo 1995 home - the first season with Nike. Been trying to source one of these in long sleeves for about half a decade. Absolutely over the moon with this. Look at those sleeve patterns 🔥 ...
Bragantino 1990 home by everyone's favourite copyright infringing sports brand Dell'erba. That season, the Braga Boys beat Novorizontino to secure the Campeonato Paulista First Division. The final was nicknamed the caipira final, after the 'Caipira' people of Centre-South Brazil.
1991 & 1992 PSG home kits by Nike.
Following a takeover by TV company Canal+, Benfica legend Artur Jorge guided Les Parisiens to 3rd & 2nd place respectively. The period also saw the establishment of the Virage Auteuil - a vain attempt to dilute the power of existing KoB firms.
I've been looking for these two 1996 Sembawang Rangers shirts for way too long. Time to end my misery.
Either a medium or large will do!
RTs appreciated - particularly by any Asia based collectors.
Thanks in advance 😊
Sure
@jacksonirvine_
can pull off a classic 90s Socceroos shirt, but he's no match for my soggy backyard wall in deepest darkest Toxteth, Liverpool ...
Introducing the Australia 1997 home and away shirts.
La Selecta.
2023 El Salvador away by Umbro.
Celebrating the Central American nation's pre-Columbian heritage, the shirt features traditional Mayan graphics typically used in architecture and textiles.
*glad that MA in Latin American studies finally came in handy 🤣
Associação Atlética Ponte Preta 1992 home by Firula.
Look at those sleeves! 😍
This beauty arrived after I had compiled by top 40 pick ups of 2023. According my totally arbitrary rules, it's now officially my first addition of 2024.
Happy New year everyone.
Mexico 1997 third by Aba Sport.
Such a difficult shirt to source. Was offered a long sleeved version years ago, but didn't pull the trigger 🤦🏻♂️. Really happy to now have it in my collection.
Ituano Futebol Clube 1993 home (alt. sponsor). Ferroviário are perhaps most well known for nurturing the talent of Juninho Paulista. The Middlesbrough legend famously returned to his boyhood club in 2010 as player-president; saving them from relegation in a dramatic season finale
Club Deportivo Mandiyú 1994 home by Adidas.
The Corrientes club were founded in 1952 by textile workers; with Mandiyú meaning cotton in indigenous Guaraní. They wore this during Diego Maradona's ill-fated 12 game tenure as coach, prompted by his 15-month doping ban after USA 94.
'91 Foggia. Under progressive Czech coach Zdeněk Zeman, the Satanelli stormed to an impressive 9th in Serie A, beating Napoli, Lazio & Fiorentina along the way. The Zemanlandia era was known for an adventurous 443 formation spearheaded by attacking trio Signori, Baiano & Rambaudi
Guarani 1994 home. As Brazil's most successful rural club, Bugre identify closely with their indigenous culture. Their name borrows from Il Guarany, an 1870 opera by Antônio Carlos Gomes. Featuring an interacial love story, it was a key component of the C19th indianism movement.
Let me take you on a journey from Milan to Japan (via Brazil, Germany and Turin). Mega sales thread. RTs appreciated.

Associação Chapecoense de Futebol '95 home by CCS.
Founded in '73, the Furacão do Oeste/Western Hurricane were a relatively provincial club for most of their 50-year history.
After a brief stint in Série A in 1978, the Santa Catarina side returned to the top flight in 2014.
Time to take a deep dive into everyone's favourite Brazilian copyright infringers, Dell'erba.
The São Paulo company was the brainchild of businessman Ricardo Dellerba, the descendent of Italian migrants ...

2 shirts, 2 different manufacturers, 2 different teams and from 2 different seasons but the same design!
I assume Dell'Erba were able to use this design as the pattern covered the full shirt instead of just a portion like on the Ajax. Still very blatantly stolen from Umbro 😅
Alianza Fútbol Club 1992 home by Galaxia.
Finishing second to Club Deportivo LA Firpo in the Primera División, El Mimado de la Capital* lost 2-1 to their rivals in the subsequent decider at the Estadio Cuscatlán.
*nickname literally translates to the Capital's Pampered Team 🤣
Another one of my hiatus pick ups was the 1992 PSG home.
Here it is next to my 1992 Dormund shirt. The iconic template was introduced by Drake Ramberg, whose abstract graphic sleeve patterns completely changed the face of contemporary kit design.
