Coach Wedd's retirement speech ends with: "There are over 1000 high school's that have a lion as a mascot. But only one has Chesty Lion!" Congratulations and thank you for everything!!!
@DirkWedd

The two fastest kids to run for LHS…Previous record holder of the 100m, Chris Fulton (class of 2003, 10.59) and our current record holder, Tyrell Reed (class of 2023, 10.46). My heart is full knowing the that LHS kids come back for moments like this❤️
From the Sunflower league meeting:
A veteran coach said, "Congratulations coach, you've got the nicest kids, they deserved to win."
Hmmm, nice 1st & talent/accomplishment 2nd... That's gotta be a life lesson...
Thank you again for a great season!
Congrats to Coach Jeff Colter for his "LIONS LEG" Award. Colter has long been a community leader, helping kids all around Lawrence reach their potential. Coach comes from a family with deep roots in Lawrence where giving back and lifting others up is the norm. Thank you, Coach!
There are few words to express the sadness we feel learning about the loss of Coach Adam Leitel at Free State. Our staff aches with his family, friends, and the coaches across town who are a part of our Lawrence track community. I will miss trading jokes back and
Our State champion shirt design is in! The track program will get shirts for the 19 girls and coaches, BUT if any family or friends want 1, order them here:
Please share this with anyone you think would be interested! Congrats ladies!
Why do I coach?
@WildemanAshley
wasn't in the 100m finals at Regionals. Just got 5th in the LJ, a timing error discovered, she's in the stands & I'm yelling you're in finals grab your shoes! No warm up, runs to the starting line and qualified for State! This is the hug from Trow!
Seniors, I'm sorry for what might have been.
I'm thankful for what you have done for our program. I wish you nothing but the best. We have shared so many great memories & somehow we will make more.
For the rest of us, together we will rise as one & strive to be better everyday!
4x400 made it to the podium…Not pictured is a freshman athlete who helped to get them there…Gabby Reed.

So proud of this squad and of Brenna Schwada. Cant see straight enough to text my feels, but its coming…🥰
Riley Howell PR’d twice in the 100m, finishing 3rd at 10.82 behind our new record holder Tyrell Reed at 10.47! The best part wasn’t even the times-it was how genuinely happy they were for one another! So happy for these two! Stay locked in!
The LHS 2022 Citizen of the Year. This guy…The growth, the determination of spirit, oh the places he will go. Forever thankful he chose track, as our program is 1000% better because of the mark he left, not just as an athlete but as a person. “Small thing to a giant, Z.” 💪🏾❤️🥳
Walked into the office and guess what I saw?
The banner ceremony for the swim and track teams will be this Friday (12/20) during the halftime of the boys basketball game.
Hope to see you all there!

. Quick witted, with tons of coaching experience, he’s a family guy who sees the big picture and loves coaching Lawrence kids. Kids will get better, and have fun doing it!
Lions competed like Lions. Those distance kids…🤩🤩🤩 Way to COMPETE!!!!!!! Jack Ryan, Natalie Kennedy, Emma Roman Nose, Destiny Savannah, Jesse Self!!! Such a hard worming group…and the effort is clearly paying off. Coach Morgison your roses are coming up nicely! Way to go!
Happy Birthday to one of the most influential people in my life…Coach

. “There are many Lions, but there’s only one Chesty.”~Coach Wedd🦁 There are many coaches at LHS, but there’s only one Coach Wedd❤️🖤
Girls 4x800 took 1st last night at the Maize Invitational. Jaylie Hohman and Harper Dye always represent the best of Chesty, never having run the race they did what needed to be done and joined Emma and Andie to see what they could do. Proud is an understatement. 🦁
B and G!!! They graduated!!! Gianna stood on the podium her first year Triple Jumping and gave the commencement speech at graduation the same day! These two both played huge roles in the school, on other teams, and will continue to be great leaders in everything they do!
#BeGreat
It has been a night of highs and lows, but let me be clear… the Track and Field kids COMPETED today! So proud of the progress, the heart, the energy and the effort of our squad. We continue to build…The best is yet to come!
The best is yet to come…❤️🖤❤️ Such an incredible group of people! So may PR’s!!!! Coaches and athletes, you were INCREDIBLE today!!! We are taking all the strides we we need take!

Hunter Krom will sign a letter of intent with Baker University on Monday, April 23rd at 3:20pm in the LHS Cafeteria. He will be signing with Baker for Bowling and Track. The track staff, Hunter and his family invite everyone to attend.
Baker is getting a great kid!
Hannah Stewart is…the definition of all of the very best words one could use to describe a person as INCREDIBLE as she is. True Lion spirit, she stopped through to help Natalie prepare for her first steeplechase!!! After seeing Stew…I gotta say today was a good day.❤️🦁❤️
IT’S MEET DAY!!! LHS Track and Field takes its pride to Hummer Park today…Meet starts at 3:30pm.
@AndreiLefort
Did his thing with this Season Opener Video!!!! ❤️🦁❤️🦁
At the city middle school meet, we got to present a 2024 “Lions Leg” Award to a living legend-Coach Mallory
@mamaMal3
The win column speaks for itself. A three sport coach at SW since it’s beginning, a college record holder, a state champion coach and the bar setter. Thank you!!!
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”-Dr. Seuss 🦁 State 2022 is a wrap. It didn’t end the way we wanted it too, and man, we took it to the chin just trying to get there, but we got up every single time, ready to fight the next battle.
#ProudButNotSatisfied
Coach Dye returns to lead LHS Jumperland! (Long, triple and pole vault) He’s a former decathlete, who coaches with a calm demeanor, builds fierce competitors and gets kids to improve. Generally pretty stoic, but if you see his trademark fist pump just know things are going well.
The KU Relays would have started today. In memory of that, here is the school record girls sprint medley relay (4:15.08) set at last year's Relays.

THANK YOU to everyone who supported the LHS Track and Field program this morning with our biscuits and gravy fundraiser!!! We look forward to doing this every year❤️🖤 No town like our town!
Tonight, we celebrate Harrison Kirkwood, Jaylie Hohman, Emma Roman Nose, Bre Jackson, and Natalie Kennedy…They show up for themselves, and for their teammates consistently and tonight they demonstrated what it truly means to have the heart of a Lion! ❤️❤️❤️
Tyrell Reed was named 1st Team All Sunflower League in the 100m and Honorable Mention in the 200m. Reed finished 3rd at State, broke our school record early in the season, and anchored the 4x100 relay team that placed 4th at state! He’s off to Hutchinson Community College 🏈!
I love this picture. Just a bunch of Chesty Lions hanging out at a track meet.
Coach Wedd asked you to be tough and work as a team to be your best. You did & now we need to be even better next week! Thank you
@DirkWedd
When your kids get it…Sam missed qualifying in both of his individual events, but that didn’t stop him from being first at the finish line to congratulate the girls 4x800.
#ElevatorsGonnaElevate
He later was CLUTCH in the boys 4x100 that made the bus!
#LionHearted
LHS Alumni and 2006 T&F State Champion, Coach Morgison knows exactly what it means to be a LION. Detail oriented, disciplined, a true student of the sport, he knows his stuff & he was the first new addition to the T&F staff! Distance kiddos, you’re in the best of hands!!!
STATE Champ, school record holder, multi sport collegiate athlete, and outstanding person weren’t decorative enough titles…Our 2021 grad Amaya added Oklahoma Indian Nations PRINCESS to her resume! You will represent with the same class and energy you always have!
