Zach Lowe gets it man
The media narrative surrounding Anthony Davis is complete garbage because it largely amounts to boxscore watching on the offensive end
Lowe is generally considered one of the very best basketball minds in the world and I’m happy to see him call out BS
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Lakers are finalizing a trade sending guard Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks to the Washington Wizards for Rui Hachimura, sources tell
@ShamsCharania
.
This is a 6’11 big shutting down an All NBA guard for *eight* dribbles…..then making a timely rotation to force a shotclock violation
Destroyer of Worlds
The Denver Nuggets outscored the Lakers by 11 pts total………in a 5 game series
The margins (emphasis on rebounding) is where the series was lost
Lakers don’t need to go star-hunting
Just give AD 2 more guys that scratch and claw for every inch on the court and it’s a new day
During the last 12 days, Anthony Davis has squared off against the following players:
Deandre Ayton
Myles Turner
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Brook Lopez
Kristaps Porzingis
His production?
40.3ppg
15.3reb
3.8blk
67.4% FG
66.7% from 3
88% FT
Hunting a generational defender in Tim Duncan for the final 8 minutes to the tune of 5 buckets in a closeout game to reach the NBA Finals provides a glimpse into Kobe’s mindset/greatness

There’s debate that Anthony Davis is the best big for Team USA
I’m here to tell you, there’s a legitimate (and likely correct) argument that Anthony Davis is the best player……..on the entire roster
The Lakers were swept in a series where the aggregate margin over 4 games was……24pts
That’s a very difficult thing to come to terms with
The Lakers are literally 6-7 shots/prayers away from the NBA Finals and it hurts like hell
I really don’t think folks understand how underutilized AD is as a primary option
Front Court Touches per game:
57.6 - Embiid
56.3 - Jokic
54.9 - Sabonis
50.6 - Randle
42.8 - Vucevic
Davis - 38.6
Embiid/Joker average TWENTY more touches per game
AD can’t pass to himself

Clearly one of the three best players for Team USA
The Los Angeles Lakers just won a do-or-die game in which Lebron James + Anthony Davis combined to go 12/36 from the field
Used to pray for days like this
Probably one of the 10 best defensive possessions I’ve witnessed
Covering 60ft of total ground, deterring an open C+S 3, recovering 30ft before blocking a shot…….in 6 seconds
Unreal
One of One
Tons of respect for Lebron James
The man came back from a torn foot tendon in 4 weeks……which is approaching impossible
Played at an all-star level and was superb on the defensive end during the playoffs
That exudes mental fortitude, dedication to team and pure excellence
Anthony Davis has *earned* the day off tomorrow
Time for Lebron to step up + return the favor and guide us to victory to extend the winning streak to 5
The Los Angeles Lakers have a backcourt trio of Austin Reaves + D’Angelo Russell + Gabe Vincent……….for the same amount of annual money that the Houston Rockets are paying Fred Van Vleet
This can’t be my life man
I honestly have zero explanation as to how Anthony Davis went from an above-average passer to a guy that you simply cannot double because he’ll shred your defense with weakside skip passes
In literally 30 days
So let’s spell this out:
-Cam Reddish gets a stop on an island vs a top 5 shooter in NBA history
-Cam Reddish comes up with a huge offensive rebound in a high leverage moment
-Cam Reddish hits a game-clinching 3
-Cam Reddish stops KD again
All in 90 seconds
I’m about done arguing with fools over Anthony Davis man
34 points
23 rebounds
4 blocks
2 steals
52 minutes
ONE DAMN LEG
Outplayed Giannis by a *MASSIVE* margin in closing time on both ends of the court
Dude is so under-appreciated by his own damn team fanbase SMH
Nobody can ever accuse Stu Lantz of being a homer
That man will call out any and every Laker player, coach, GM, owner, ballboy, usher and janitor known to mankind lol
Used to dream about this level of chasing/screen navigation
Look at Gabe Vincent man
Again, you allow AD to hit cleanup and it’s a wrap
Don’t care about the boxscore, this is winning hoops
I mean, this is laughable
Lakers start out in Horns Alignment that goes into Empty Corner pindown to get Lebron a look
AD sees Lebron has AG sealed and makes a great read
This is a perfect pass…….Murray literally tackles Lebron from behind
The baseline ref simply stares
Many thanks to the following:
Austin Reaves
Rui Hachimura
Jaxon Hayes
Cam Reddish
You fine gentleman played well enough to allow Lord Lebron James + Sir Anthony Davis much needed rest for the entire 4th quarter, and perhaps allowing us to see them in a B2B tomorrow
Well done
How bad is Darvin Ham right now?
Anthony Davis has been arguably the best player in the world since 12/1
Just put up 30pts, 17reb, 5asst, 5blk
Played 44mins and the entire 2nd half
And the Lakers were blown out by the Heat……..without Jimmy Butler
Anthony Davis played the *entire* second half
Lebron plays 41 minutes
Just to beat a GLeague outfit
In large part because Darvin Ham is incapable of managing a game
Never apologize for a victory, but that was pathetic
I’m not buying into the “Lebron is washed” takes
It’s fair to say he hasn’t looked like a top-5 player since returning from injury, but that’s distinct from washed
What I am buying is fatigue - look at LBJ once the halftime buzzer sounds off - the man was running on fumes
Anthony Davis is the best defender in the world right now.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 26-12 since the trade deadline, including the play-in + playoffs
That includes a 22-9 record in games against teams that made the playoffs or the play-in
And every one of those contests were must-win scenarios
That is remarkable
Dinwiddie
Reaves
Lebron
Rui
AD
This has been the Lakers best lineup by a WIDE margin over the last 2 months and they just proved why again
CLE scored only *8* points in the final 8 minutes of this game
Lebron

AD
26.8ppg, 14reb, 2.8blk, 49.3%
Reaves

Rui

I would’ve wagered good money on the Los Angeles Lakers if you gave me those number for the WCF
This is the healthiest I’ve seen Anthony Davis during his Laker tenure
The agility, hip fluidity, quick elevation and speed is at a level we haven’t seen in more than 5 years
Looks absolutely incredible
Its absolutely wild that after essentially a 3 month layoff Lonnie Walker is our best chaser………by a considerable margin
He has to be in the rotation permanently this series. Doesn’t matter if it’s at the expense of Vanderbilt or Reaves IMO
This level of playmaking is something we don’t appreciate enough
This pass by Lebron is absurd
A one-leg skip pass off the wrong foot that travels 28ft………and hits Reaves in the shooting pocket?
My lord……..
Draymond Green literally demonstrating proper blocking technique for an offensive lineman here
Hands inside the shoulder pads, maintains the block by holding the jersey for 1.5 seconds, then completes the pancake on Vanderbilt
lol

Is the transformation of Cam Reddish the best story in the NBA?
Man was on the verge of being out of the league…….and is now a legit starting wing + integral component for a title contender
The Los Angeles Lakers have played 17 games versus teams .500 and above, second most in the NBA (GSW is
#1
at 18 games)
Accounting for injuries, B2Bs and schedule difficulty/SOS, the 13-9 record looks relatively impressive
Spencer Dinwiddie has been a revelation on the defensive end since joining the Lakers

Can’t overstate how big of a win this is for Rob Pelinka and the Lakers.
We’re moving closer to just acknowledging Cam Reddish is a legitimately good defender
This was a playoff level game and Cam severely limited Devin Booker all game
Also had good stretches against Kevin Durant
He’s legit as a defender
Ham needs to sit Anthony Davis on Tuesday
Re-aggravated that groin/hip tonight and played 41 laboring mins tonight and nearly the entire 2nd half
Need him healthy in the long run
Reaves is a cheat code for optimal
roster construction
At $12mill he’s providing incredible return value
He competes every possession and was significantly better defensively post-AS game
You NEED guys like that on the roster and I truly hope he’s in LA for a long time
The Los Angeles Lakers are the
#3
Defense in the NBA since the trade deadline
This is the sort of high-floor team that I love watching because you can withstand scoring droughts and still stay in the game
Now imagine adding DLo and then Lebron to the mix to raise the ceiling
Lots of folks hate Dennis Schroder on the basis of aesthetics, but in crunch time that dude is an absolute monster
The Lakers will miss him in many ways
Legit big guard

Yeah man, you can keep the +/- debates for the less informed
We’ve seen what 2 complete games without Anthony Davis looks like
There is *zero* question as to who the most impactful + irreplaceable player is for the Los Angeles Lakers
Anthony Marshon Davis
Anthony Davis danced with Curry on an island for 9 seconds man
It is absolutely ridiculous that a 6’11 AD can flip his hips in this manner to re-direct in a nanosecond to stay attached against one of the best ballhandlers the game has ever seen
Watching it in slow-mo is art
I do find it interesting that LAL hired one of the best possible ACs (McMillian) from the available pool and not a single insider had a clue……
Example 5,648 of why I refrain from the insider wars
Thread: Cam Reddish defense
Cam was LAL’s best perimeter defender in the season-opener by a considerable margin
Torture Chamber stuff here
-Ball pressure on Jackson + deflection
-Screen navigation + recovery
-Nail help vs Zoom action
-Recovery to Jackson
-Contest
Fairly simple - the Lakers lost in the WCF by the smallest aggregate margin in league history……with a good portion of that due to shot variance.
Not unreasonable to believe that additional chemistry + marginal improvements + marginal health upgrades = Finals appearance

Biggest takeaway of the night:
A healthy Anthony Davis outplayed the best player in the world by a decent margin and even more importantly
He did it without help, bullied Jokic defensively for large stretches of the game
AD appears to be top 5 in the world right now
Major Props to Anthony Davis
Played at MVP level for large portions of the year despite an injury that will require surgery
Carried the team in LBJ absence + got us to the playoffs
The standards for AD are always unfair, but he’s re-solidified as a top 10 player in the world
This needs to be emphasized
Lebron gets the well-deserved credit here for an incredible pass, but Christian Wood is the engine
Look at him run the floor to create a passing window
He passes up 5 players while changing ends:
Nurkic
Okogie
DLo
Goodwin
Watanabe
Winning Plays
In a must win game, Darvin Ham:
3 guard lineups as the opposition destroys you defensively
Having 6’2 Pat Bev as your stopper vs 6’9 Brandon Ingram to close a game
No half-court sets to speak of in closing time…..Lebron/AD PnR with no off-ball action
Bottom 5 coach
Honestly man, it was such a treat to see a *healthy* Anthony Davis go blow-for-blow (and come out on top most of the time) with the best player in the world in a playoff setting 10 feet from the court
When AD is healthy, he’s good enough to be the best player on a title team
The Los Angeles Lakers just held the best offense of all time (statistically speaking, we all know they aren’t) to:
109 Points
36.8% FG
At near full health, Laker defense is absolutely stifling
If you want to criticize AD for missing shots, that’s a legit take IMO
But “throwing something up” misses the mark
Jokic clearly pushes AD in the back with force
He’s mastered the “stay vertical up top while pushing down low” technique that we saw in the playoffs
AD's post moves/face ups were a lot more successful than his live dribble attacks last night. He tended to just drop his shoulder, throw something up and scream for a foul.
Another opportunity to Jokic to beat him down the floor for a crossmatch, OREB putback.
Major props to Rui Hachimura
DLo and Dennis are getting the headlines, and rightfully so
But Rui kept us afloat when we had absolutely nothing going on offense
Thread: Anthony Davis Island
AD took turns putting Kawhi, PG and Harden in the torture chamber
None more paramount than this
Tied at 98, ninety secs remaining
PG hits the brakes and thinks he’s getting separation
AD stays in his chest, forces PG to fumble and gets the stop
Jarred Vanderbilt vs Fox on an island
Beats him to the spot at the elbow, flips the hips after Fox changes direction to stay in front, then swallows him up with size/length
That’s tremendous agility at 6’8 with a 7+ wingspan
Nobody wants to say it, but I’ll speak for the silent majority
The Lakers lost this game, in large part to missing FTs in regulation, but Lebron James was just flat out bad during critical parts of the game
Skylar Mays is a legit NBA player
Peel switch on Jokic here and look at Mays box out and prevent him from getting position in the restricted area despite a 10inch/60pound deficit
That’s winning hoops that gets no boxscore credit
