A moment of silence at Mackey Arena tonight in remembrance of legendary Indiana coach Bob Knight, who passed away at the age of 83.
Nice gesture by Purdue.
Matt Haarms understands the Purdue-IU rivalry. About Bob Knight appearing at halftime and what to expect to start the second half: "We knew it was important. We had Coach Keady sitting behind our bench. That's the guy I care about. ... He's with us in the locker room."
So Fred Hoiberg knew he was sick — others knew he was sick — and he went out on the court? And he thought this was acceptable? What level of stupid does it take ... ?
Couple quick fan shoutouts:
* To the Illini fans who sat in front of us and turned, stood and flexed at their friends behind us no less than 12x in 1st half but none in 2nd
* To the female students in row behind us who ranked the Purdue players in terms of looks. Congrats Mason
With Michigan State’s loss, Purdue will play for first place Tuesday night in its Mackey Arena tilt with Illinois.
Think it’s safe to say the building will be electric.
We are all this little girl watching through her fingers with Trevion Williams at the line trying to seal the game. Thankfully he hit them both.

Lemme get this straight: Indiana, which has only played 2 games out of the State of Indiana this season and won't again until Jan. 2, hates the Crossroads because it fashions itself as a national brand?
K.
The vilification of Zach Edey on this platform over the last year has really been something to behold (or perhaps it could be described in other ways).
And the idea that Purdue doesn't play a good style of basketball is just plain lazy and tells me Dan hasn't actually watched.
Purdue's start is great and all that — gonna be No. 1 next week — but there's also something glaringly missing and a huge concern going forward:
The lack of endless banter about Zach Edey's history as a baseball/hockey player from the TV broadcast teams. I miss it.
Can't help but feel like Purdue is not only winning, but it's taking a shovel and burying its past failures. The Boilermakers punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 by punching back at the physical, aggressive Longhorns.
Huge props to Brandon Newman for staying ready when his number 5 was called again. Knew it would come and he answered.
And Purdue has responded to him.
During halftime interview, Matt Painter jokingly says “bad coaching” led him to not playing Brandon Newman over last month.
Credits Newman with hanging in there and giving Purdue much-needed spark.
I do have to admit that I ABSOLUTELY love the ridiculous notion that there's a national conspiracy to help ...

... Purdue ...
win basketball games.
Four of Purdue’s 6 loses this season in the last second?
Honestly, I can’t even figure that out. Is it a Purdue issue, an inability to put teams away? Is it bad luck? Is it Purdue being good but not good enough?
Hell if I know.
Is Purdue the first 4th-ranked team in basketball history to have a streaming-only game as late as Dec. 7? It has to be, right?
Something just ain't right in the world, ya know?
As Robbie Hummel pointed out, there's 10 cameras out there. Did Xavier Johnson think he was gonna get away with this?
At least it was above the belt this week.
BUT HIS FINGERS WERE IN ORTON’S FACEMASK. IF THE DAMN REF THROWS THE FLAG, PURDUE BEATS WISCONSIN. AND THEN GAME DAY SAID IT WAS GONNA COME BACK THE NEXT WEEK, 1ST BACK-TO-BACK EVER. AND ORTON WOULDA BEEN THE FRONTRUNNER FOR THE HEISMAN. UNDEFEATED. ROSE BOWL.
Why is BTN talking nonstop about Indiana "fighting," instead of the job Jeff Brohm and Co. did in getting Purdue to the Big Ten West title and the Championship game?
Really bizarre narrative at the end of this game.
Run straight to the bus, which should not only be warmed up but should be rolling out of East Lansing.
A huge win but a Purdue team that got the best of Michigan State. There’s no better opponent to test the Boilermakers’ toughness. And Purdue passed.
Late in Saturday's game, David Blough had to motion for the
#Purdue
crowd to quiet down. Think about that for a moment. Wasn't all that long ago that there wasn't a chance for Ross-Ade to be too loud.
After his introductory press conference at Purdue, Ryan Walters is greeted by former Boilermaker great Rosevelt Colvin.

.
What an absolutely fantastic win for Purdue's program, with plenty of credit from the top down. The Boilermakers, given their personnel losses, could have treated the trip to Nashville as a vacation. Instead, they went to win.
You've got to give Eric Hunter Jr. a ton of credit, sticking with it and rediscovering his mojo. Think he was having trouble finding his (new) role at the beginning of the season, but has settled in. And at a good time.
I can't believe the number of people blaming the refs.
Purdue had 2 unsportsmanlike penalties after TAKING THE LEAD with 51 seconds left. That just can not happen.
The last two kickoffs of the game are from Purdue's own 10 (by Purdue) and Purdue's 35 (by Cuse). Like ... what?
And when will we see Brandon Newman again?
We know from
@HoeingNicole
that he's working in the background, trying to stay ready. That said, Purdue's only going to stray from the 9-man rotation if it's forced to.
Want badly to see him succeed at next chance.
Jeff Brohm brought an era of football that will not be forgotten: The Tyler Trent game, Rondale Moore, David Bell, Big George, Aidan O'Connell's story arc, trick plays, the Big West. Sure, there were disappointments, but countered with gigantic highs.
With Purdue likely to win the B1G by at least 3 games, anyone who wants to vote for someone other than Matt Painter for coach-of-the-year is gonna have to fight me.
I'm 6-4, 230.
(Note: I'm also old, slow and out of shape and losing my very little athleticism by the minute).
The last 30 secs was so perfectly executed by Purdue:
1) During TO, Painter tells players to not foul on 1st trap
2) Purdue doesn't foul, gets steal
3) TO to reset
4) Purdue finds Edey, can't get settled, passes out (for a Loyer 3 or a re-post)
5) Purdue bodies up shooters on D
Big win for Purdue.
There’s nothing wrong with getting a big lead, then holding off the opponent’s charge. Purdue did so today against a Michigan team playing for its NCAA life.
Big one Tuesday.
Matt Painter has built a program, not a series of teams. And in doing so, it seems the desired ultimate results are a matter of continued hard work and time (and luck).
Need all 3 to come together at same time, which is not a given. But feels closer every day.
We all must wonder if we'd be as strong in the face of unimaginable adversity. Luckily, very few of us find out. Tyler Trent was - clearly - up to every challenge. He fought with grace, faith and power, and showed us all what truly matters. RIP.
Arriving a bit earlier than expected, Mason and Molly Charters came at about 8 a.m. Friday. Mason looking skeptical and Molly curious about their new world. Both, and mom too, feeling good early on this Saturday morning.
You all are nuts.
You want better facilities, more pay for coaches, a better game-day experience, better recruits and a chance to compete at a national level.
And you want to do that at Purdue, not historically a powerhouse.
And then you want to complain about 15m ... ?
A big-time win by Purdue in a big-time environment. Jaden Ivey is an absolute stud but it’s not only him. Purdue proved tonight that it has the pieces.
Am I misremembering or has Fletcher Loyer done something critical in final seconds/minute of each of Purdue's last handful of wins?
And he's a freshman.
Like all Americans, I love a great conspiracy theory.
But the reason Purdue doesn't foul as much as other opponents is because it plays fundamental D and — most importantly — has a 7-4 center. If I was an opponent, I wouldn't drive the lane either, out of fear of being swatted.
When UConn hosts Marquette today, I'm going to be keeping a keen eye on how quickly Huskies players pick up their teammates off the floor.
And then I'm going to use that to judge whether UConn or Purdue is the better team.
In the transfer era, we’ll see very few players like Brandon Newman: Willing to wait his turn, keep grinding, hanging in there, staying ready.
Hopefully pays off for him. I think it will.
Purdue's Brandon Newman only reached double figures five times last season as a sophomore after hitting double figures 12 times as a freshman. Usage rate should spike Post-Jaden Ivey. Breakout Guy.
I must admit that I did not anticipate that Katie Gearlds' game-day apparel was going to be something I was particularly interested in.
But I am now hooked.
If that game is called "fairly" as many seem to want, then Northwestern would have been called for 100 fouls.
Chris Collins even admits that's his strategy (which is his only choice, given his personnel) but then gets upset that the officials don't help him out enough.
So tired of the “free throw discrepancy” narrative around Purdue. Fans that watch them once/twice a year don’t want Zach Edey to shoot any free throws and those that understand the rules of basketball and watch Purdue all the time know he should probably shoot 40 FT’s per game.
