On a freezing winter’s night, May 12, 1969, the security police stormed the home of Winnie, and arrested her in the presence of her two young daughters, aged 8 & 10, under Section 6 of the Terrorism Act, designed to hold and interrogate people for as long as they wanted.../

Winnie and her 2 daughters, Zenani and Zindzi Mandela lived their whole lives under constant police harassment, detention and house arrest. The apartheid regime constantly imposed banning orders on her, preventing her from living a normal everyday day life. #womensday2023

For her this was the start of 491 days of detention. In her detention, she was questioned for 7 days& nights, was not allowed to bathe for 200 days, despite that, Winnie emerged after 491 days in detention unbowed and determined to continue the struggle for freedom #womensday2023

On the 9th of August 1956, 20 000 women from all walks of life came together to march against the pass laws that were implemented by the apartheid government. The law required Black people to carry a 'dompass' to prove that they were allowed to enter white areas... #womensday2023
