The consequences are real when politicians spread lies. Community members lose jobs. Black and brown people endure police violence. And people lose their lives, too. Canada cut UNRWA funding—based on zero evidence—amid a genuine concern of genocide identified by the ICJ.

Israeli apartheid is bombing itself out of favour with public opinion worldwide. For every bomb, the world sees the settler-colonial violence that Palestinians endured for 75 years. Just like South Africa after the Sharpville massacre, Israel cannot masquerade as a "democracy."

As the 15-year commemoration approaches, I reflect on the Tamil genocide and bear witness to the unfolding genocide in Gaza. Sri Lanka and Israel have a long-standing relationship, but I take pride in being part of a tradition of Tamils who oppose the occupation of Palestine.

Counter-insurgency theorists called it the “Sri Lanka model” following the Tamil genocide in 2009, marked by total and absolute targeting of a civilian population without regard for the principles of parity, distinction, and proportionality enshrined in int’l humanitarian law.

Israel seems to be copying Sri Lanka's genocidal strategy from 2009. Declare 'safe zones' on few remaining spots of sand, and shell civilians once they've fled there

The rent strike at 33 King Street and 22 John street is led by low-income Black and brown people. They are not waiting for anyone to save them. They are building their own power through self activity. And we got their back. @YSWtenants @springmagca @CUPEOntario @UniforTheUnion

Like Brown University, British Columbia's Thompson Rivers University demonstrates a mature and reasonable way for University Administrations to negotiate in good faith with the Student Movement for Palestine. It is a choice to call the police and unleash police brutality.

When Shireen Abu Akleh was killed, Israel claimed it was accidental. When aid workers were killed in April, Israel said it was a mistake. Now, it claims that the murder of civilians in the Rafah 'safe zone' was a mistake. These were deliberate, and our politicians are complicit.

Despite open admissions of culpability by Israel, Canada extended support for the genocide in Gaza. Canada's policy shift at the UN was forced by mass pressure on the streets. But it's not a ceasefire until the bombs stop. All out this Sunday: Nathan Phillip Square at 1pm.
