Day 57 of isolation, I’ll sleep well tonight!! Plenty of walking work today, double verticut and double cut the square, and finished off with a light fertilise at 20g/m to keep things ticking along without any excess growth.

Yesterday’s
@thehundred
Final pitch. We worked as hard as we could to produce a pitch befitting for a final. I am so proud of my teams’ efforts. The scrutiny and criticism of pitches during this tournament was high, which was disappointing, but when all else fails blame us….. 😜
Second stage of square renovations with
@fineturf
. Scarify in 3 directions to clean out the last of the surface and create a seed bed. Seed, topdress and fertilise today.

The new Compton and Edrich stands
@HomeOfCricket
are really starting to take shape. Roof struts and glass windows are in place on the Edrich stand.

As the sun rises over the Edrich stand, beaming down on the pavilion, we go in to day 5 with all results possible (the draw being most unlikely!). I’m extremely proud of the effort of my team over the last couple of weeks.

Outfield and irrigation reinstatement works have begun on the main ground. It’s good to see the cranes and lorries finally off the outfield! It will be restored to its former glory in no time!

A serious shift put in from my team today for London Spirit vs Oval Invincibles in the

. I lost count how many times the covers went on and off. A reused pitch from a couple of weeks ago when England played Australia women in a T20.

The rain has finally stopped! Lovely dusky evening at Lord’s to clear the water of the sheets. A dry night would be most welcome ahead of the test match tomorrow 🤞🏻
Today I was back where it all began and in true Irish fashion it was raining!! 34 years ago Podge Hughes started my journey as a groundsman, little did we know this trip would end up at Lord’s. Thank you to
@ClontarfCC
for remembering this great man.
Well done to all the grounds people and volunteers that have kept their cricket clubs and school grounds going over the last few months. You are getting your reward tomorrow with recreational cricket returning. Enjoy it and give it at least a week before you moan! 🤣

13 days post seeding and we took the germination fleece off the square today. Not too bad considering we only had one bout of rainfall during that time. A few sparse patches, but with rain in the forecast alongside the warmer weather it should fill in.

Another outstanding couple of weeks commitment from this team. To go straight out of the Hundred in to a test match has been challenging to say the least, but they’ve all exceeded my expectations yet again.

A note to all the cricket club groundsmen and women out there that may need a bit of help and support in these crazy times! Please feel free to share and retweet. It’s good to talk!

Keep off the grass!! 😜 Contrary to popular belief, think it’s great to see so many people enjoying walking on the hallowed turf. It’s an experience people will remember for a long time.
Day 33 of groundsman isolation, a couple of geese have flown in to say hello! First time I’ve seen that

With the reasonably mild weather, and the help of the lights and a germination sheet, we’ve lightly overseeded a couple of the thinner pitches. Let’s see if we can grow grass in the winter!

This weekend the team splits up as the seasonal staff depart. An amazing season of cricket which had many weather challenges, finished off by the toughest day. They never complained and always came to work with a smile on their face . Thank you all

This mornings view is from under the covers. Over 44mm of rain in the last 24 hours, and more on the way over the next few days ahead of the test match. Cheers summer! 🌧️ 🏏

It’s nearly 5 months since
@Fineturf
started the nursery ground outfield reconstruction project, and about 11 weeks since seeding on the first week in December. The transformation has been remarkable considering the time of year we undertook this task.
