“They discovered antibodies targeting a specific part of the S2 domain, called the stem-helix, which can bind to the spike protein and stop it from refolding into a shape necessary for fusion. This prevents the virus from entering human cells.” That’s a big win.
@germfreegangsta
The conversation heard round the world. 😷A mask is a considerate way to protect others from any airborne pathogen. Haven’t they even learned that?
@aftab_usa
I’m insist on them wearing a mask there & for the next 5 days. If everyone was following those barebones CDC guidelines in this surge, why aren’t we seeing more masks in public?
@DonEford
There’s also an increased risk of stillborns. Sadly, I know a mom who delivered a stillborn at 38 weeks-so cruel. The mom was vaxxed but there was a virus exposure. Expectant moms are going to baby showers unmasked. That bothers me now that I know what can happen.
@NjbBari3
@JohnSnowProject
Someone on Twitter referred to this as “ The Quiet Period,” as in the past 2 years-no press conferences or guidance for the masses. Some also say the masses don’t care but I think that’s half true. They’d care if they had been given more clearly understood info.
@JeromeAdamsMD
I wore a mask to fly in 2019 because when we returned from an international trip, I was having surgery. I wear a mask now because an N95 has worked for me and others & after seeing CO2 readings of air travelers, I’ll never fly without one. One of my favorite cocktail napkins.
@AlisaValdesRod1
Good luck! There’s a human behavior aspect to this, too. Are they masking in elevators, restrooms, when socializing at lunch? There’s a hole most of the time. I know that there’s exceptions too, though. Can you bring a HEPA or CR box?
@apmalong
@lisa_iannattone
This is why some of us are fighting for cleaner air in classrooms, cafeterias. Parents need to join the fight and join with teachers, demanding it to lower viral loads in classrooms. It’s getting harder to be heard as mitigations are being dropped so we need lots of help! Share!
@AbraarKaran
Seeing multiple people infected in a ward says something terrible about the ID protocol in that ward if masks aren’t being worn by staff & patients.
@NjbBari3
@CDCgov
We need schools to be alerted to this. They need to mask, open windows where they can and get Corsi/Rosenthal boxes into classrooms now. Who will lead this effort. It should come from the medical community or it’ll appear to be hysteria.
@EbonyJHilton_MD
@CDCgov
The admin just declared MPX a public health emergency and the CDC is to relax contact guidelines? That makes little sense in preventing disease spread.
@jonathanstea
@TRyanGregory
I took a college critical thinking class pre social media and it was eye opening in some ways. Now with social media, it should be a required hs or certainly college class to help people learn to be less gullible, see the harm in it and learn to recognize reliable sources.
@JeromeAdamsMD
They wore masks while watching a presentation close together ( seen in a pic), had HEPAS running and it seemed windows open as a woman & a man pictured were in wool coats. The masks and the windows opened can be done by anyone. They took PCRs and the HEPAS aren’t as easy for all

I was reading Dr Walensky’s wiki bio. She said that she’s been “ crystal clear” on masks but so many aren’t wearing them or following basic mitigations. I agree about the 2nd part but I think that her messaging hasn’t been crystal clear. She told people to put them in a drawer.
@CorsIAQ
Mine too but they only joined America when their kids came home from their schools and infected them.They’ve all been very careful until then and aren’t as much now.

“IHME models suggest that the number of people who have had Covid in the US may be higher than recent CDC estimates based on blood tests.The CDC said nearly 6 in 10 Americans have had the virus at least once; IHME estimates that total is closer to 76 percent of U.S. residents.”

It’s your life but know that they infect nerves & look up post herpetic pain. That’s enough reason to get Shingrix. I know a healthy 60 locally who still has 2 pox on her face since late Nov. Having had them, she’s at risk again but can’t get the vaccines until hers all go away.
@MeetJess
I tagged you, Jess, when a cardiologist thread came into my feed. He has some to add and he did CPR/AED on 2 runners who were running half marathons. They lived because of him.

Between this account & others touting this nonsense, with their millions of gullible followers, they’re causing a lot of harm to people’s health.
@DrTomFrieden
@NoyesJHumphrey
Someone said it best to me-the word restrictions should never have been used. Masks ( and kinds differentiated from the outset even with a shortage of good ones) should have been presented as part of good public health policy from the beginning. It’s a privilege to protect others
@victoriacoble15
Our school board couldn’t care less. We’ve been pushing this for 2 years & resorted to speaking to individual schools. School boards often have people who aren’t schooled in the effects of repeated infections & follow “ it’s a cold now.” It’s going to take a concerted effort.
@RickABright
@ChristosArgyrop
H5N1 “spread efficiently between ferrets by direct contact? Remember Dr. Walensky softening the blow B4 Omicron & yet she cried? That didn’t stop the spread. And we’re entering a new surge in SARS-COV-2, too now? It seems time for the

Kids learn to communicate at home and are mostly potty trained there, too. The “ lockdowns,” herd immunity and the story weaving of why infections are worse has the makings really of a nursery rhyme. “ Ring around the rosy?”
@kprather88
But who better understands the working of engineering air in buildings more than those in that field? Why is she threatened by that? It’s an A team partnership that could produce results. Has ID stopped the spread in buildings? I have much respect for them for medicine.

I’ve been volunteering half the summer in a grassroots group advocating for better ventilation in schools. We’ve been hitting a lot of resistance by them. It’s finally getting national attention but too late in the game now. I’m angry too!
@DrJRubenstein
A friend’s DIL gave birth to a perfectly formed 38 wk stillborn. All genetics were normal so it was a virus but mom to be was never sick during pregnancy. Another mom gave birth to a newborn with biliary atresia. She had Covid during first trimester. Are OB/GYN drs warning them?
@watermelonpunch
@itosettiMD_MBA
The West is not welcoming sickness and death. We have citizens who aren’t educated about Covid and who have gotten mixed messages from their public health depts. Many of us understand that science evolves but many don’t so we need a good messenger of that. Lack ofLeadership.
@Zxander3K
@MarkWar16520311
I was a nurse, tracked medical data for research.The hygiene hypothesis has been debunked & it only applied to some bacteria, some times-never to viruses. A cold is a mild virus but not always to an 80 yo. That’s why flu can be deadly-aging immune systems can’t fight it as well.
@RolandBakerIII
The kids going to schools for 7 hours/day unmitigated. This is immoral and as someone else ( from CA) tweeted it violates the rights of children to be safe under the UN Charter.Their growing 🧠

That’s the new line,” Don’t talk about Covid.” I didn’t go to a big bday party of a close friend. I told her husband that I don’t go in indoor with crowds now. She wasn’t offended and there were +s afterwards. She’s got a LC symptom now, too.

No, the shingles lowered immunity. She wasn’t vaccinated against shingles & that and her senior status is why she got hit hard. She’s healthy but her immune system is still 65. All vaccines stimulate your immune system-a good thing & all viruses tax your immune system-not good.
@friendlycovid19
@WeRRestaurants
How about that we are sending a nation of kids back to school for indoor dining-cafeterias-just what the CDC advises against-crowded indoor spaces unmasked.

Americans are blissful because swaths of info from studies isn’t being shared with them in the MSM, only to “the choir” on Twitter. Why hasn’t the researchers and medical community spoken up loudly?

The emphasis should be on prevention. It’s less expensive in the long run on many levels. N95’s given out, ads run as to why they’re needed-all HCW should be wearing them to prevent LC.

Just babies and elderly? The 50 million kids K-12 + teachers, staff inadvertently bring it home to babies, elderly and others high risk. 2024 & schools still aren’t safe against these growing respiratory illnesses. 70% of community spread there, per CIDRAP.
@drseanmullen
Me too. I wore one in 2019 to fly before a surgery the following month that I didn’t want postponed. It’s not a hard thing to do. I think more would do it if more wore masks. People tend to follow the crowd in diff situations.
@LeslieRasulo

Can he go to a hospital with a residency program? Ours wear masks as does my DDS and hygienists with HEPA air purifiers in each room. They’re in oral cavities for goodness sake. Many used to mask or wear a shield to prevent debris from getting into their faces. SMH.

A local man, 50 yo who loved the outdoors & wasn’t overweight, died suddenly while drinking his AM coffee on his porch. In one of life’s sad ironies, he sold anti-arrhythmia devices.
@DrChi_PedsMD
@NjbBari3
We’re hoping that peds drs speak out about this and the need for better ventilation in schools and buses, even if that only means cracking open the windows.
@TRyanGregory
The lack of hope is perpetrated by public health leaders who have thrown up their hands at minimizers instead of educating them which would be less costly in human and economic costs in the long run-short run too. People are confused about the pandemic over and others masked.
@DBelardoMD
Thanks. I’m always questioning people about why they risk an issue. I get the “ He won’t do anything to hurt me” answer. Until he does. This is sad.
