Male, 25. Gamer, anime & manga enthusiast, movie/television buff, aspiring film-maker, and writer. Oh yeah, and I'm Canadian; don't make me shoot your moose.
This is what that image is a response to. If you had no issue with the original poster drawing a man being killed, cooked on a fire, and eaten by a woman and bear, then with all due respect, either show that same energy or don't be surprised when men respond in a similar manner.
>"porn of minors"
>It's just mildly spicy art of fucking Hatsune Miku
Yeah, I think all minors should have their internet access completely taken away, actually.
Pretty funny seeing most of the QRTs being like "I hated this game before, but knowing that people who like this game will be punished for using the sexy skin makes me like it slightly more now."
And then you see the public reaction to it, and literally no one even cares, lmfao.
You know the Stellar Blade skin suit everyone has been gooning over? Well I just realized a lot of people are in for a shock lmao. If you look at the description (which most won't) it turns out this suit activates hard mode by disabling your shields so you die super easy. Lmao
Was hoping this wouldn't even need to be said, but I obviously find *both* images to be bad, guys. Snuff art depicting any living being in those types of scenarios is, in my eyes, sickening and immoral.
Just calling out how people seem to not view it as a big deal if it's a man.
We need more Japanese creators to just respond like this to Westerners when they get accused of outrageous stuff, have their works purposely and vastly changed from the source material, etc.
Nice to see one not just taking it all lying down for once.
If you think you can just claim anything that way and it will pass, you are mistaken.
Leroy and Raven will kick your ass. Come to think of it, there are no Japanese characters in the American dramas and movies that I love, but I have never felt discriminated against because of
@Gondolinhrim
I'm not mad, just annoyed. I have a right to call attention to the blatant double standard that's been put on display here. This is a public forum.
@Guile_Gale
I'm not saying they should accept it. I'm saying that they shouldn't be surprised when their energy is matched and also that they aren't consistent in their beliefs. The same people complaining about the reply image were radio silent when the original image was first posted.
Only on Twitter could you say "enabling the production of snuff art involving women *and* men is bad, and we should keep the same energy for both/not let one of the two slide" and still be met with people ready to argue against you on the topic.
What a world.
@Aubrey_Not_Dead
I see what you're doing. Did you think I was one of *those* guys? Because sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not; just someone who thinks that snuff art/murder fantasies involving both men *and* woman is bad and that we should treat both the same.
I want peaceful coexistence.
@dragonage2ftw
Ah yes, they "poisoned the well" by *checks notes* being excited to play a fun looking action game with a good looking protagonist. That *totally* warrants all the outrage articles and bad faith arguments that people have been spewing nonstop. /s
@Caelleigh1
All you gotta do is go on either Google or YouTube and search up "G4/Xplay racism" to find several examples of how rife the mid 2000s were with people that were racist towards Asian made games.
People believe we've moved past it, but we haven't. They're just less open about it.
@Guile_Gale
Wanting this ridiculous gender war nonsense to end on both sides instead of continuing to perpetuate it via the continuous back and forth production of disturbing murder fantasies, as well as justifying their existence, *is* being better.
@dragonage2ftw
>"1 article by some French person (IGN France) and basically nobody else."
How incredibly disingenuous. Stellar Blade was literally called "the last bastion of conservative gaming" by those same types of people. The people claiming "savior against woke" are a small minority.
Except there's a clear difference between characters like Toph, and a shitty character like Rey from Star Wars.
People dislike bad writing. Simple as that. Also...
>"never a love interest to anyone"
Lol, lmao even
@dragonage2ftw
If people want to celebrate sexy women in games, so what? It's a non-issue. And people *have* been talking about the gameplay.
Meanwhile, the people trying to dunk on the game and its fanbase are so loud, a Korean outlet had to respond.
Hardly the result of just "1 article."
@TheAmreld
I mean, there are trailers, interviews, gameplay clips/previews and all that stuff out there. Relying on the Twitter feed alone to see all that stuff is never going to get you the full picture for everything.
Sometimes, you gotta seek things out; Google and YT are right there.
@Monkeyman4298
And that's fine. I agree about wanting to enjoy the other aspects, too. Just poking fun at the people whining about needless things like the fanservice-y outfits or even just her design in general, and how it appeals to the "male gaze."
The discourse surrounding it is just dumb.
>"making Pokemon fans look bad"
The only ones doing that are the ones who are sending death threats to real human beings over a fucking video game. Get your fucking priorities straight.
*No one* deserves death threats. It's not a competition, so stop with the struggle olympics.
Ain't no way this person unironically used *NieR: Automata* as an example of a game that had its gameplay talked about more than or just as much as its fanservice.
Lol. Lmao, even.
Ya know what's funny?
I've never heard people actually talk about what matters to the game, Gameplay.
NiER has 2B, a hot protagonist with really good gameplay.
All I've heard about Stellar Blade is how hot she is and that's it
"calling me names" Not to justify name calling, because that's never okay, but didn't you literally call Atlus homophobic because you misinterpreted a character arc from the game? Pretty sure THAT'S what people are upset about.
People in glass houses shouln't throw stones.
Was not expecting to wake up to hundreds of people calling me names over briefly saying that I was CONSIDERING dropping a game I was playing purely on my own time because I was not likely to vibe with some of the later content lmao. Y’all were bored huh!
>"Pick me is when you choose not to treat every single man in the world as a literal monster and refuse to engage in ridiculous gender war discourse outside of a wholesome drawing."
>19k likes
God, I'm so tired.
@KorTheKoolest
"brought onto yourselves" I, along with many other men, have neither started, nor done anything to justify people having murder fantasies in which we are murdered, cooked, and eaten. The existence of bad men in the world *also* does not justify it. It's not a healthy outlet.
Ignoring that that's just not what she said, I'll say what y'all aren't ready to hear.
*Japan* ain't the issue. It's *y'all.*
Maybe we can start talking about the benefits of "diversity" in Japan when foreigners learn to be fucking civilized and respect other cultures.
All the replies saying "It's so over" and "We lost" because an inoffensive YouTuber with the tamest takes decided to make a video about how some Twitter puritan was actually outed as a pedophile—with hard evidence and everything—really is emblematic of how far society can sink.
@MVPofDNA
@B_E_N__S_W_O_L
No one here's acting "triggered." Just wanting people to remain consistent in their beliefs. Snuff art is bad no matter how it's being depicted.
And if it's bad when the subject is a woman, then it's also bad when the subject is a man.
@adius85272945
I think sex between humans and animals is far more embarrassing than normal, good looking women existing in games, personally.
But hey, you do you, man. Agree to disagree, and all that.
@MightyKeef
@momiji_doa
Which characters/posts do you have an issue with in particular? I scrolled for awhile and didn't see anything that set off any alarm bells. Being genuine here, not trying to start anything.
@N0tabagel
I saw your follow-up tweet to this, and considering this isn't the first time you've found a tweet of mine before the two of us engaged in an argument lasting a solid day, I'll agree that I don't want that again either.
I'm sure both our minds are already made up, anyway.
@KorTheKoolest
Bad women exist, too, and yet that still wouldn't justify putting them through the same; the follow-up image was just as bad, yet people didn't show the same energy towards the original as they did with that.
No one should be on board with one but not the other. That's my point.
@booyakabungaIa
Bro won the Battle Nexus Tournament and hardly anyone ever acknowledges it. And he was my favorite *before* that even happened.
Needless to say, that made my loyalty to him feel even more justified when it first aired.
American localizers and their apologists wanting to ride the coattails of Japanese artists and animators all while rewriting the scripts entirely to inject American slang, memes, and politics will never not be sad to me.
I tend to not listen to weirdos who get mad at localization because they are always deeply uncultured weirdos who are just generally wack as hell and are mad that they cant escape seeing slang they reflexively hate in their animus they watch to misguidedly escape culture
I agree that the song doesn't sound great, but there's a hilarious sort of irony in a person claiming that someone else has a shitty sense in humor when said person has also tweeted this.
Like, come on, you ain't any better.
I don't see anyone popping off about the latest Pokémon game or Minecraft on my timeline.
Doesn't mean they're dead games.
Games release, the internet either gets hype and talks about them, or doesn't. Then talk dies down and devs release updates or work on their next project.
@Canowes1
@TheAmreld
Some people, sure, and yet there are other people who are genuinely excited to experience everything else the game has to offer, or even all of the above.
Saying Eve's hotness is the "only" thing they love is a bold statement.
@Randomporn25961
Sex with animals is a "meme"? Is that what we're calling it now? Regardless, that seems a lot more egregious than people simply liking a nice looking design.
Maybe if the reprobates over at
@Machinima
actually took a second to stop posting stupid memes that appeal to schools of children and producing mediocre content, they'd actually have the time to let
@jcjgraham
know what the status of his own show is.
Fucking pathetic.
@SinCindered2
I see. Wasn't aware of those allegations, and I admittedly don't know the whole story, but if the allegations *are* true and he *did* do those things, he should absolutely face punishment.
It still doesn't change my main point about the Stellar Blade detractors, though.
@TBartels1
Tl;dr version: Eve and her squad are trying to save the human race by retaking Earth from the alien forces that invaded it.
Game's not out yet, so that's all we have to go off of; there'll probably be more to it than that.
Twitter users when the bad guy is a bad guy instead of some pretty boy twink with a tragic backstory that suddenly makes all the bad things he did justified:
@N0tabagel
I literally only used the word "offended" in *one* reply, and it was in response to a person who changed the subject to something else entirely. The rest of my replies were literally just me trying to keep things civil.
Make it make sense.
>"diverse things"
The diverse things in question: Japanese Communist Party asking its members to report fictional fanservice to the United Nations
>"fascist gooner"
Ah yes, 'cause fascist is when scantily clad anime girl.
These people are so terminally online, it's depressing.
Look at the fucking comments LMAO
Such genuine shock that Japan is a real country with people who actually believe diverse things instead of a monoculture where everyone is a fascist gooner.
Literally the only one whose writing is bad at worst and mediocre at best is Makoto from Persona 5. The rest are fine and don't fall under any "misogynistic stereotypes", "sidelining", or "fetishization."
This just shows that you haven't actually consumed the media they're from.
The way the majority in the bottom part have been criticized for playing into misogynistic stereotypes, sidelining female characters for male development or for fetishizing them being brutalized or assaulted😭 While the upper example is just a silly throwaway joke scene and not-
TW// fanservice 💀💀

the way women have to have their bodies SO overly altered and over exaggerated to appeal to the male gaze.. we are nothing but objects to them i fear
I'm usually onboard with Asmon and his takes. He's *usually* a rational person, but I just can't get behind what he's saying here; it's such a clinical way to view the world and art as a whole.
Artists and artistic expression *do* matter.
The context is that Dante does shit like this just about every chance he gets. And the guy playing would have known that and probably had a laugh if he had bothered to play the previous games instead of just starting at 5.
@TheMaioh
I'm sure you mean well, but "violence is a go to response for many men" is such a ludicrous argument to make in defense of this. Violence is a go to response for many people of *either* sex.
It's just as prevalent in women as it is in men. That doesn't justify making snuff art.
@Artemis__foxi
"one is horny gooner bait"
"The other is tasteful art of the goddess of beauty"
The tasteful art in question: Naked woman with hair covering her tits. Wow, how tasteful and creative. /s
I've got nothing against Hades and its characters, but come on, man.
@MysticJfr
Downplaying snuff art involving a man being cannibalized after his murder as "cartoony" while trying to argue that the other is somehow "worse" is certainly a choice. Not one I care to argue back and forth about. I get the feeling your mind is already made up.
It's so fucking funny how terminally online culture war people are getting upset at this video because they just *assume* he means "wokeness" or whatever, only for him to actually be referring to shitty companies and how preservation is important.
You can't make this shit up.
@R_3_T_R_0_
@KorTheKoolest
I suppose. I just like to believe that no person is incapable of eventually seeing reason sometimes, but you're probably right. Guess I'm just naive like that.
Hilarious how *we're* supposed to feel like the bad guys for making a stupid fucking joke when women have a history of *actually* fucking their dogs and cats.
Make it make sense.
@ztbeach
>"gamer gate 2" and "just watch porn" people
I'm... neither of those things. And I agree that people should wait until the game is out to actually decide whether it's good or not. I think you may have misunderstood what my tweet was going for.
@MysticJfr
Both are snuff art. They're equally as screwed up. "Silly fantastical scenario" is insane to say. A man is roasting on a fire without his head; there's nothing silly about that.
@KaiserRobins
I mean, I dunno, man. The game keeps trending, like, every other week. I don't think that really supports the claim that most people don't know about it.
@TheAmreld
Don't really know what to tell you, then. I've seen people talking about the gameplay, but those posts unfortunately get drowned out by the people looking for any shred of clout by cherry picking the horny posts and acting like they're the *only* posts that exist.
"blends seamlessly in and out of gameplay" Maybe he shouldn't have cut the video right as the gameplay started if he wanted to showcase that, then.
Also, programming flexes are cool and all, but those alone don't make a game deserving of GOTY.
“It’s just a cutscene” yeah, a real time in-engine cutscene that blends seamlessly in and out of gameplay while loading several city blocks and an entire building interior in a couple seconds. One of the year’s biggest programming flexes, and most of the rest are also Spider-Man
"vtubers that are just white westerners hiding their racial identity"
Man, wait until you find out that most anime dub VAs aren't all Asian. It's all just pretend; y'know, for fun. I may have it as my pfp, but I'm not a literal Kamen Rider.
Take your schizo meds and get a grip.
vtubers that are just white westerners hiding their racial identity behind a kawaii anime icon while doing baby voice as grown ass adults are a social plague dude
It is done. All trophies, all 74 Nanosuits (that includes the NG+ ones), all upgrades for Eve and the drone, all Gear and Exospines acquired and fully upgraded (including their NG+ variants).
Detailed thoughts incoming; this will likely be a lengthy thread, so just heads-up.
Just beat Stellar Blade, and hoo boy... what a ride. Will write my detailed thoughts once I've gotten the platinum trophy. As it stands now though, I am *very* impressed. It's definitely looking like a solid 9 or 9.5 for me. Damn near perfect, and likely my current GotY.
Watching the W/OOO movie and man, I already *love* Eiji. This guy definitely has the potential to become my second favorite Rider protagonist right behind Kuuga. OOO's gonna be a good one, I just know it.
