So many people not realising Death Stranding entire basic gameplay was inspired by this suggests that game critisism has failed on such a fundemental level that few critiques actually drew the rather important connection between real life and the game.

Maybe one of the oddest professions in Japan is that of the bokka (歩荷). Porters who carry supplies to remote mountain guesthouses inaccessible to vehicles. A bokka uses customized wooden ladder frames to carry 100-165kg of supplies on day long marches (walk up, run down).

Alright alright people want it so here it is. The Xbox 360 store is being obliterated from orbit on July 29, 2024 so I've written a non-exhaustive thread here of a few interesting games/DLC that will not survive*. Some are on sale others...not on sale.🧵

We have reached the point in the discourse where derogatory "it looks like a PS2 game" is causing people to demand proof to prove that literal PS2 games are in fact PS2 games.

The great thing about the Playstation 1 library is you can open a random game that averaged a 6/10 and it's an absolute banger that the reviewers didn't like because it wasn't Tomb Raider or some shit.

Critisism is supposed to help you appreciate the media and world you engage with, if people are writing tens of thousands of words on Death Stranding and accidentally not mentioning the entire life and career that inspired the core mechanics - whoops.

"THis game is bad because it's not like the game I felt like playing" and "This game is too much like a game that exists so it's bad" Are so common in contemporary reviews, part of it is probably these people were reviewing dozens of games a month and not actually playing.

Can't overstate how important the youtube channel by Vysethedetermined2 is, just 13+ straight years of uploading gameplay samples of doujin and other obscure games with short information about the titles where available.

Weird to see that comment about how *the best* games are made by people that don't care for games as a medium essentially considering there's more games than ever that don't really care to explore game mechanics and just want to tell stories with light interactive elements.

@pigeonradio_ @ericinvermont @ClooneyDisciple If you ever feel bad about your media opinions just remember that Ebert declared Home Alone 3 great and Starship Troopers awful in the same sentence and meant both those things.

Wild how the 3ds store is shutting down and so some games are marked down by 80 - 85% because yeah the stores shutting down literally no one is going to pay you money for these games again and there's also plenty of games that are just "lol full price, get fucked"

I'm happy to report that The Silver Case is required reading, well done. Impressive how realist artistic media saw the early internet and was like "yeah this shit is going to make people stupid and awful" pretty much instantly and they were right.

@Foone I appreciate everyone speculating why when the answer is the game is Japanese so it's just cleaner than expecting (possibly kids) to know how to type the entire alphabet x2 in 1993.

@JonComms You'd think they'd take the extra few seconds to record one where they don't miss the socket.

It is a crime that it has been 33 years since Valkyrie no Densetsu and we ain't got no game that looks like its concept art.
