Just looked at the voting split for my local area.
1) Labour 35%
2) Conservative 17%
3) Independent 14%
4) Reform 12%
Going to have to start looking at every 12 in 100 strangers differently now

Teachers are very quick to judge and condemn disruptive or disengaged behaviour in their lessons, but have you SEEN teachers during a boring CPD session...

People booing the taking of the knee is even more reason why it needs to keep happening.
Well done to those fans that applauded to drown out the boos. ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ

I know a lot of teachers were initially thinking negatively about having to finish Autumn term so late, but have since realised one thing for sure: the January 8th/9th restart is GLORIOUS!
#EduTwitter
You know who I feel sorry for at this time of year?
Option subject teachers that have year 9 classes comprised of students that have now done their end of year exam and know they are not taking that subject for GCSE.
That sounds far from ideal.

In case you were unclear, an example of privilege is being able to miss a penalty in an international football final and NOT be subject to racist abuse.
You have to agree to take a pen.
You don't just get told to do it unilaterally - you have to step-up and agree to it.
My brothers Rashford, Sancho and Saka stepped up for a nation full of so many that abuse them.
Now we'll see who our allies truly are.

Being sat in a room while someone delivers a PowerPoint presentation to you, is NOT training.
If there isn't any participation, practice and assessment of knowledge obtained, it is, at most, an hour-long listening session.
Sometimes "listening" is an overstatement!

Starting my NYE morning with some Andrew Tate research. I need to start the new school term armed, locked and loaded with anti-Tate eye-opening pearls of wisdom for these teenage boys.
No matter your position in school, every now and again, when things get tough, all we need to be told is that we're doing a great job and our work is valued.
Ofsted call on Tuesday, day 1 on Wednesday, day 2 on Thursday and then Open Evening on the same Thursday!!
The hours we have worked these last 3 days have been outrageous.
Looking forward to normality tomorrow and being able to see my wife and child lol.
Dear Ofsted,
It would be great if, after all the hours of work and heavy emotional labour that Safeguarding Leads put in, that you give a more thorough evaluation of Safeguarding in your official reports.
This one-liner needs an upgrade, please.
Thanks,
DSLs

Does anyone work in a school where all the teaching assistants are respected and listened to by the kids in the same way as the teachers?
If so, what's the secret?
#EduTwitter
It is impossible to teach a completely mixed prior attainment maths class effectively.
Impossible.
Anyone that says different, is lying to themselves.
A group of pupils will always be inadequately supported.

Pregnant women end up working way too far into their 3rd trimester and their maternity leave should be longer than a year to accommodate.
Someone in government needs to sort this.
The end.
We've had the call.๐๐
Any DSLs out there that recently had their Ofsted visit and meeting?
Would be great to hear how it went and any advice.

There is literally nothing like working in schools.
Nothing!
So often, I have a day where I'm like, 'this would NEVER happen anywhere else!'
And breathe.

What's something that kids do in school that you find genuinely funny but you can't let them know you find it funny?
For me it's when one of their friends is in isolation or detention and they call out "FREE MY GUY! FREE THE MANDEM!"
#EduTwitter
When you're a Safeguarding Lead going through your own mental health problems, you end up giving yourself the same advice you've been giving kids and then realising that it's definitely much easier said than done!
After all this great weather over the half-term, there are two things I know for certain:
1) These kids are going to come back on a hype.
2) A bunch of nonsense that took place over the break will find its way to Heads of Years and pastoral/safeguarding leads.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but when you eat an After Eight chocolate this Christmas, do not leave the empty wrapper in the box please and thanks.
Why have I received an email beginning "hope you had a wonderful summer holiday"?!
"Had"?!
More like "are having"!
Please come correct and patiently await my response after Notting Hill Carnival.
Kind regards ๐
When my parents brought me this colourful bow tie back from South Africa, I thought, "It's nice, but when will there ever be a suitable occasion for it?"
And then
#REND
came along...
In my previous school when I wasn't SLT, I used to always wonder why SLT felt the need to have their own exclusive nights out.
But now I'm SLT...I get it.
So...to clarify...as we know, not being at school can have a detrimental effect on children's mental health. So...in order to counteract this, we need to keep them in school for longer, shorten their holidays and constantly tell them they're falling further behind..?

My mum's summary of the DSL role this morning:
"Well that just sounds like the hardest job in the world. You just get the ills of all society finding their way to your doorstep."
I am a firm believer that pupils should first learn how to create/manipulate equations BEFORE being taught how to solve them using the balance method.
However, I have had to resort to creating my own worksheets as I am yet to find anything like this anywhere

From Easter, I'll be working for an Academy Trust's Central Team as a Safeguarding and Attendance Lead for 3 days a week and "just teaching" in a local school for 2 days.
Not being on the front line as DSL will be strange, but hopefully better for my family and mental health.
As DSL, it's very difficult to do any big picture strategic thinking within the hours directly before, during or after a full-on working day.
DSLs NEED the occasional whole day conference/CPD away from school to finally get the headspace.

For anyone that was wondering how it went with Ofsted from a safeguarding standpoint, I'd describe the meeting as a very pleasant conversation.
It felt like the inspector was inquiring rather than interrogating.

At 2pm, I was a maths teacher
At 3pm, I was a street dance teacher
At 4pm, I was a community support officer in a high-vis jacket
At 4:30pm, I was a social worker/counsellor talking to a parent & child about their trauma

Your newer teachers do learning walks to improve their practice.
Your newer pastoral staff should also have opportunities to observe more experienced staff conducting restoratives, mediation, wellbeing check-ins and parental meetings.

@Mr_B_Morgan

I'd much prefer year 7s to arrive with extremely secure knowledge of fewer things, rather than thinking they know lots of things when really they don't, because it was never taught with sufficient depth/rigour.
Now I'm not usually one to side with
@Miss_Snuffy
, but I don't think she was genuinely saying that if you get rid of uniforms or become lax with them, then kids actually bring in knives.
She's just saying that not sweating the small stuff can often lead to larger problems.
This is why, though I'm not able (can't be bothered) to plan/create really wizzbang/fun activities, I always make sure that the way I speak about the maths makes it sound like the most incredible thing ever.
For a teacher to not even plan a mature discussion around the use of the N-word in Of Mice and Men BEFORE even thinking about saying it aloud nonchalantly, is both poor planning and offensive.
@QUAYSTER
Reply by empowering her and say it's your favourite hairstyle and that you're sure it'll look great.
Then find out where she's getting hers done and see if they can give you a nice teacher discount.
It's not often that a disclosure stays at the front of my mind even as I arrive home in the evening.
But this one today...this one has stuck with me.

There is a staggering difference between how I feel at the end of a full day of teaching compared to a full day of pastoral/safeguarding responsibilities.

@RogersHistory
Boards get turned face down when they've written their answer. Everyone shows theirs at the same time.
The correct answer is not revealed, but instead all the different answers are written on the board and students' misconceptions are teased out via questioning.
Maths btw.
I'll be on my phone under the table if the session is dead.
But it just reminds me that, if kids are messing about, we need to often look at our own teaching and delivery first.
