Such terribly sad news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Sherif Lawal who passed away last night after his bout at Harrow Leisure Centre 🙏
34yrs ago at White Hart Lane, I watched Danny Thomas miss a penalty that might have lost the UEFA Cup Final yet the Spurs fans, as one, sung his name as he returned crestfallen to the centre circle. A spine-tingling moment; inconceivable, maybe, to today's glory seeking fan

Currently roll call of WBA heavyweight champions: Anthony Joshua (WBA Super); Manuel Charr (WBA Champion in Recess); Trevor Bryan-Bermane Stiverne (contest vacant WBA Regular title tonight); Robert Helenius (WBA Gold); Sam Allardyce (WBA West Midlands).
I've said it before and I'll say it again
@MrAndyClarke
backs down to no man, no man (Diamante echo). Andy is paid to call fights, not cheerlead from ringside. He's as balanced, knowledgable as they come.
Behind Josh Warrington and Callum Smith, Dillian Whyte is also in the conversation for British fighter of the year. Browne, Parker, Chisora - that's a very solid body of work in 2018.
This has been considered a boom time for British boxing, but almost every Brit has lost world title fights in the US and been outclassed. That can't be sugarcoated. DeGale, McDonnell, Frampton (UK), Selby, Brook rare exceptions. DeGale's record in US/Canada criminally overlooked.
Not much moaning (if any) about George Groves vs Chris Eubank Jr being a PPV fight in the UK. Speaks volumes. A captivating main event, backed by a competitive undercard. The standard all PPVs should aspire to...
Wilder's right hand or his heart - I'm not sure what's bigger. Sport celebrates the winners but, putting his excuses to one side, the Bronze Bomber made one of boxing's great trilogies. His name and Fury's will be forever entwined as long as fights are remembered. Kudos to Wilder
No words can do that justice. Geezers were flying through the air on that third goal. If you were in the away end for any of the 28 odd games before today - that was for you 🐔👊🏻

Christian Eriksen has stepped up to a new level entirely in 2017. A lot of people still don't seem to grasp how good he is. I suspect that will change after tonight.
Kell Brook vs Michael Zerafa; a WBA 'Final Eliminator' for either 'Super' champion Jarrett Hurd, 'Regular' champion Brian Castano or 'Gold' champion Michel Soro plus any other WBA championship created during this tweet...
Long before Dillian Whyte first headlined a ‘stacked’ PPV and the WBA started throwing out title belts like confetti, boxing was a simpler place with 8 divisions & champions. Here, I pick the true world champions of boxing applying those old school rules
I never thought any boxing negotiation could be more painful than Mayweather-Pacquiao, but Fury-Joshua has managed it. A wall of drying Dulux brings more intrigue.
Delighted to present the new
@BoxingNewsED
featuring interviews with Canelo Alvarez, Luis Nery, Roberto Diaz, John Ryder; our Top 10 countdown of Mexico's greatest ever fighters and more - in stores Thursday and via digital platforms from tomorrow 👊🇲🇽
Refused to move and security have apologised and confirmed these are our seats. They now have to find alternative seats for the VIPs. Biggest victory on the undercard tonight ✌🏻

Credit to Frank Warren who never wavered in his belief of Dubois. Many questioned Dubois’ minerals (unfairly) after that loss to Joyce, but he potentially saved his sight and career by staying down and now has his moment of redemption in front of 96,000

The McGuigans matched Josh Taylor to perfection. Moved their man competitively and creatively. Steps (and sometimes leaps) up at the right time and it paid off handsomely.
People might be hammering Josh Kelly when he's down, but taking this kind of risk has to be preferable to 20 record-padding wins against the usual suspects. Boxing should be about backing your belief, not manufacturing a record.
43 years ago, Ray Leonard defeated Thomas Hearns by TKO in round 14 of 15 to become the undisputed welterweight champion. The fight was awarded Ring Magazine Fight of the Year.
Last ever feature for
@BoxingMonthlyED
magazine has left the building. Ended on a high note, hopefully. Thanks for all the kind words and wishes this week👊🏻
A lot of boxing fans bemoaning the breaks between fights but in that time I've been able to visit the bathroom, make sandwiches for the homeless, launch a cryptocurrency and hold a seance. Worked out nicely for me.
Tony Bellew is the ultimate ‘heart on his sleeve’ fighter. No filter. A loveable (loathable, for some) loon, at times. But a far better fighter than he ‘looks’ at first glance. Haye’s career was running on fumes, yes, but Bellew can fight. He’s earned his moment.
Inoue ticks every box as a fighter. Complete in all departments. Negotiates early adversity against Nery and ends matters in destructive fashion. He has that Godzilla DNA.
Felt Sky Sports' post-fight analysis was a bit harsh on Daniyar Yeleussinov. A British prospect would have received the big build-up with an identical performance. Any Conor Benn win is greeted with a ticker tape parade.
Woman standing on a London bus holding a baby. Not one person offers their seat. In the north you’d probably have six people fighting to give up their seat.
Warrington didn’t look comfortable or on the verge of victory. Lara seemed to move him with every shot. Just shows we can watch the same thing and see something very, very different.

As a Spurs fan, I can guarantee two things - Robertson is a terrific full-back and these aren't real fans/from the city of Liverpool and environs. Huge respect to the real Liverpool supporters for their conduct and sportsmanship in Madrid.
And the new....
@BoxingNewsED
includes Inoue lighting up the Dome, Canelo being Kingly, Kingry being Kingry, The Big Zhang Theory, eerie maturity of Xander Zayas, wisdom of Lauren Price and under-appreciated genius of Lomachenko. Digital tomorrow and in stores from Thursday.. 👊

'Doncaster De La Hoya' Dave Allen after his 1st round KO victory: "Last time I fought here I sold three tickets. Three people came. And now I've got the whole place singing for me. It's crazy."
Just rewatching the 2022 FOTY so far. Admirable class and cool in the aftermath of victory from Leigh Wood, with Michael Conlan's health in doubt. Career skyrocketing, yet Wood's feet remain firmly on the ground. Big respect.
The WBO Ratings Committee should be a registered charity. Isufi an absolute gift for Saunders. Shame on you if you believe that's a genuine contender and 'world title fight'.
When Martin Tyler and Co. praise a Premier League money team for rolling over a side with limited funds it's like someone celebrating a Porsche outspeeding a Peugeot. What did you expect?
Best thing about a Sky PPV is the adverts inbetween rounds. So many outstanding products. Going to start my morning with breakfast biscuits, drive a new Toyota to work then end the day getting razzed on Strongbow with my bearded mates

A lot of boxers say they will fight anyone, but Jarrett Hurd actually means it. Erislandy Lara was widely avoided (neither Charlo fancied it), but Hurd doesn't want the path of least resistance. He chose the perceived No.1 guy in the division. A genuine throwback fighter.
The passing of Sweet Pea Whitaker last week made me ponder the top five fighters of the last 30 years. One of them is still defying boxing logic. In no order, I have - Whitaker, Jones Jr, Pacquiao, Mayweather and Hopkins. Who you got?
Another student from the Brendan Ingle school of boxing graduates to world champion. How the old master would have enjoyed that. The ceaseless Galahad just would not be denied. The Kid is king.
A fight that needs no selling. King vs king. Fire vs ice. 175lbs supremacy on the line. In the new Boxing News, we set the scene for
#BeterbievBivol
and talk exclusively to Dmitry Bivol plus interviews with Fabio Wardley, Jai Opetaia and more 👊
Last night's boxing recap: Saunders beat a 38-year-old challenger; Tennyson knocked over a rabbit in the headlights; Courtenay stopped a slapping novice & Richards had an eight-round sparring session. I thought less shows, less active fighters was supposed to make better fights?
Outside of the UK PPV bubble and paid employees pushing that narrative, Khan-Pacquiao holds more appeal. In the US, Middle East, Asia, that fight resonates more
@BoxingMonthlyED
MY MAIN(ISH) WISH FOR BOXING IN 2019 IS... no adverts between rounds in televised fights. Had Sky Sports broadcast the 'Thrilla In Manila' we wouldn't have witnessed the emotional exchange as Eddie Futch withdrew Joe Frazier. We'd be hearing about the new Screwfix catalogue.
Floating the idea of a British Boxing P4P Top 10. Always subjective, but mine would be something like this....
1 Tyson Fury
2 Callum Smith
3 Josh Taylor
4 Billy Joe Saunders
5 Anthony Joshua
6 Josh Warrington
7 Carl Frampton
8 Charlie Edwards
9 Kal Yafai
10 Luke Campbell
In my column in the new
@boxing_social
magazine, I discuss Matchroom's curious promotion of former amateur star Luke Campbell, epitomised by that 12-fight build-up to a domestic clash with Tommy Coyle. Could this be one of the worst promotional misfires of all-time? 🤔
And the new.. Boxing News is served two ways - Fury or Usyk Collector's Edition cover (that's tougher than John Fury's skin) featuring interviews with both men, OG undisputed champ Lennox Lewis, red-hot 126lbs prospect Bruce Carrington plus Lomachenko, Price and everything nice👊
And the new... Boxing News presents the King of Kings Oleksandr Usyk including comprehensive ringside coverage from Riyadh, Thomas Hauser on the story of the fight, plus Jack Catterall, Lawrence Okolie, Lewis Ritson and more. In stores Thursday and via digital from tomorrow 👊
Superlatives are overused in boxing, but
@bjsaunders_
was truly exceptional in Montreal. A boxing clinic with edge. Britain’s best reigning world champ? A strong argument has been made.
Josh Warrington set the narrative with that blistering assault in the first two rounds and never relinquished control of a riveting contest. Frampton was fighting on fumes near the end, but played his part in a magnificent fight.
Amazing how much better boxing is when you bring in opponents who come to win. Thoughts are with the Eastern European journeymen sat at home watching and thinking, "That should be ME in there."
Whatever happens next, credit to Leigh Wood for taking an insanely tough voluntary defence against Mauricio Lara. Xu-Conlan-Lara. No soft touches, refreshing.
Random memory: Working at Boxing News and receiving a letter from Maidstone Prison. It was a fierce defence of boxing by Reggie Kray, who was outraged by the BMA's attempts to ban the sport. "Boxing always kept my brother and me on the straight and narrow," he wrote. Seriously.
Crash, bang, wallop! We have all the action and more from an incredible night at Wembley where Daniel Dubois was redeemed with a pulsating KO of Anthony Joshua. Also in this issue we feature Glenn McCrory, Thomas Essomba, Rhiannon Dixon, Sam Gilley, Anthony Crolla and more 👊
