If you write, you are a writer. Nothing else is required. You are part of the writing club. Traditionally published, unpublished, self-published, for fun, it makes no difference. You are a writer. Other writers are your peers.
#WritingCommunity
If you write, you are a writer. If youโve finished a written project, you are an author/essayist/poet. If youโve been published, you are a published author. If you love words, you are worthy of these titles. Keep pushing forward.

If you are a writer, I support you. You donโt have to have anything in common with me in any way but a love of words. If we have this common ground, I cheer for you.

Does anyone else have a strong desire to be curled up by a fireplace in a log cabin in the middle of the woods, with a hot cider, their current writing project, and no one for miles? Or is it just me?

Hey, writer? Yeah you, the one who dreams of seeing your name on a book cover. It will happen. Donโt give up. I canโt say how or when, but it will. The first editor I worked with said no publisher would want me. I now have a publishing home and the career I dreamed of.
#amwriting
Reminder:
If you write for pleasure, you are a writer. If you self-publish, you are an author. If you write, you are a writer. If you have an agent, donโt want an agent, publish traditionally, publish one book a decade or ten books a year: YOU ARE VALID.

I thought Iโd reintroduce myself for my new followers. My name is Justina, Iโm a multi-genre author of clean stories with a twist in suspense/thriller, fantasy, horror, romance, ya&NA. I have 30 books under my belt over a career of 4 years so far.

Iโve had people love my work, and Iโve had people pick apart every sentence in the same story and tell me how they would have done it better. No two people read the same book. Write because you love it and be better than the writer you were yesterday.

I thought Iโd reintroduce myself for my new followers. Hi, everyone! Iโm a multi-genre author of clean (meaning no sex or cursing) stories with a twist. Iโve been a published author for 4 years and have 30 books. Working on 31. I love to encourage other authors!

The funniest things Iโve seen on Twitter are the few people who are offended that I encourage aspiring, new, and fellow authors. The most heartwarming is the amount of souls Iโve seen doing the same thing.

When I wrote my 1st book, there were things I thought would happen easily. It took me 29 books to make bestseller. Number 30 was it for me. Inversely, I have 30 books to my name, and I didnโt dream of that. It may look different than you thought, but work pays off.

In 2022, I wrote and submitted 11 books to my publisher. This year, I struggle to complete 1 draft. My ability hasnโt changed. The quality of my work is as good as it was. Iโm simply in a different place mentally. Donโt judge where you are off where you have been.

Hey writer, about that story idea you haveโฆwrite it. Who cares if youโve seen similar ideas out there? They werenโt written by you or seen through your eyes. There is no such thing as a โnewโ idea. Have fun and do things your way anyway.

Hey, writer? *Points* Yeah, you, the one who is struggling and being hard on yourself. Knock it off. Did you know even your favorite author, that one you look up to, started as a beginner, struggled, doubted themselves, and sometimes still might? Youโve got this.

If youโre writing your first book, here are 3 things to consider:
1. First drafts are always messy. Itโs okay.
2. Thereโs no telling how long itโll take you to write your book, but when you finish youโll have accomplished something few do.
3. Your voice matters.

Do you know what plotters, pantsers, self-published, indie house published, and traditionally published authors all have in common? Theyโre talented writers. Theyโre equals.

Hey, Writer? Iโm proud of you. I donโt care what your genre or medium is. You are a writer. Professional or hobby, you are a writer. Taking a break or pushing through, youโre a writer, and Iโm proud of you.

Sitting here and realizing the next book that comes out with my name on it will have the title Bestselling Author before itโฆIt doesnโt feel real. It took me over a million words and 30 books to get there, but it made it that much sweeter and Iโm humbled and grateful.

It has been brought to my attention that this is offensive to some. It was never my attention to hurt anyone and I apologize. As someone who is a caregiver to someone who does have hallucinations, I should have realized. Iโm sorry.

Hey, writer? Donโt let anyone steal your joy. Poetry, shorts, novellas, novels, or epic length novels they are ALL art. All of them are writing. All of them take skill. All of them are valid. No matter the length of your writing, you are equal to any other writer.

In an effort to practice what Iโm always preaching, Iโm having a day where my confidence isnโt the highest as a writer. Nothing has changed, my brain is just lying convincingly that Iโm a garbage author. Not because of my writing, not for any specific reason.

My uncle and I were talking and he seemed puzzled as to why I donโt see authors as competition. The reason is this: The path I walk is meant for me, as the path you walk is meant for you. No one can take it from me. When I stop to cheer someone else on, I lose nothing.

Once a book is published, you see the pretty cover and maybe a few typos who slipped past dozens of eyes. What you donโt see are the tears, the self-doubts, the anger at a brain that doesnโt want to work, the stress, and the human who put all they could onto the page.

Hey, writer? Youโve got this. Your story wonโt be perfect. Give it your all anyway. Do the best you can. Pour everything you have onto the page and then edit. You are good enough to give it your all.

Someone was being a bully about how long it takes to write a book: My debut took 13 years to write due to life. My current book is taking me 3 times longer than norm. I have 30 books out and my editor says Iโm an endless talent. Time it takes to write means nothing.
#amwriting
There will always be voices that say you arenโt good enough and to quit. Please writer, donโt listen. What you donโt know, you can learn. We ALL have more to learn and none of our work will ever be perfect. You are good enough to keep going.

Hey, writers? Be nice to each other, please. We all love words and battle to get our worlds on the page the way we see them in our minds. This is a challenge passion to pursue. We arenโt each otherโs enemies or even competitors. Each of our stories are unique.

I want to clear up a few things that have been said to me lately. Iโm a bestselling author, but Iโm not anywhere near rich. Iโve written 30 books, but most of them were as 50% of my Dadโs caregiving team. Nothing has been handed to me. Iโm grateful for that.

Iโve been accused of โlowering the barโ when I say writing makes you a writer, but every single writer I know (published and unpublished) pours their souls onto the page. There is no higher bar than that in writing.

Am I weird for having an imaginary cafe or write in? Probably. Feel free to laugh. Iโm grateful that Iโve found a way to separate my writing world from caregiver life. It works, so Iโm happy no matter how silly it might be.

To those waiting on your door to open: Be it a publisher, an agent, or putting together right team to self-publish, itโs hard to watch others stepping through the doors youโre waiting on, or to cheer when you want to cry. Your time will come. Youโve got this.

If Iโm not scared of human authors blocking my path as an author, why would I fear AI? Do I think it should be used to write books? No. Does it scare me? No. It has nothing to do with my journey or the doors that open for me. I see no point in fearing a man made tool.

Funny thing, when I found my publisher, I had given up on finding a house that would publish me. When I hit bestseller, I had given up on the idea of it happening for me.

One of the hardest things to do is to cheer on others when their doors open but youโre still waiting for yours. This is the time you learn a lot about yourself. If you can cheer for someone getting what you want, youโll handle your own opportunities with grace.

Hey, writer? Plot holes happen. Typos happen. Mistakes happen. Itโs okay. Give your all. Do your best. Never stop learning. Love what you do and care about the people who will one day read your words. The rest will work out.

I woke up feeling crumby about my writing, but when I sat back and thought about the people who have been excited about my work, the ones who support me, many of whom are strangers enough to have no reason to be nice, I was able to kick that lying voice out of my head.

Iโve seen a couple of people be upset by 3 star reviews. A 3 is not bad. Itโs average. Itโs I enjoyed this. 4 is this is really good. 5 is this is amazing. 1-2 is a less than stellar review. Donโt let any of the numbers stop you from writing.

I love to encourage other writers. Whether youโve published books or not, youโre my peer and I believe when I cheer you on thatโs good for everyone, including myself. When I see authors excited for their first (or 10th) book, it makes my heart happy. 1/2

When I first started looking at publishing, I thought I HAD to go traditional or I wasnโt good. Things happened, and I thought I HAD to self-publish because I couldnโt trust anyone else with my work. I ended up traditional at a small indie house. Donโt rule things out!

Hey, writer? The journey of writing each book is different. There will be times writing is easy and the words will pour out. Other times, itโll be a slow slog though deep mud. Slow or fast, your worth as an author and ability hasnโt changed.

Hey, writer? The reason Iโm always asking you to be kind to yourself is because Iโm talking to me too on this. Iโm a perfectionist by nature and itโs my first instinct to always push myself harder and question why Iโm not doing โbetter.โ You are not alone.
