Anytime you hear Jamie Benn is a problem for the Stars from cap perspective, think about guys like Anton Khudobin, Radek Faksa or Ryan Suter. They together take basically the same amount of cap space from the team. Now, would you rather have Benn or that specific trio? Exactly.

Roope Hintz. I still remember following his 2016-17 campaign in 🇫🇮 Liiga for HIFK. He won the playoffs scoring title that season and also played with soon-to-be Stars top draft pick, certain Miro Heiskanen. Now he leads playoffs scoring in the big show.

Listen, I hate to be that guy… Dallas got rid of dead weight in Faksa, Suter pretty seamlessly, only to overpay for guys like Dumba and Lyubushkin. And to top it off, couldn’t extend Harley for more than 2 years. It’s a wasted opportunity to lock up key talent at good value.

When you think about it, Ty Dellandrea for Nick Robertson is a perfect swap for both Toronto and Dallas. Dellandrea fits seamlessly in the Leafs middle six. Robertson could be the LW trigger man for Bourque/Stankoven for years to come. Plus the inebitable brothers connection.

Stars have an interesting dilemma to figure out: Team wants Nils Lundkvist playing and being a healthy scratch doesn’t help his progress. They’re also afraid to sit worse player than Lundkvist on merit just because of the “veteran” status. Pretty easy decision, if you ask me.

Watching Lian Bichsel play in SHL and here are some takeaways: • Plays tough minutes, mostly LD • Solid on PK with some huge shot blocks • I’d like to see him more assertive offensively • He’s definitely pro-ready I can see him staying in Europe for IIHF Worlds this year 🇨🇭

Ryan Suter plays a lot of minutes, so he must be good! Right? Right? Don't fall into that trap. Suter has been actively hurting Dallas offensively & defensively 5v5, not to mention especially on power-play and penalty kill, too. He just doesn't have it anymore. #TexasHockey

Jake Oettinger: Elite goaltender. I mentioned this in my latest article. Oettinger is the type of an elite goalie that can bring silverware to Dallas again. He has a potential to be even a notch above Turco or Bishop. That draft trade to scoop him was masterpiece from Jim Nill.

So I dug deeper on this and here's an explanation: Since Dallas used only ~220k of LTIR pool while projected to accrue ~280k of cap space throughout the entire season in total, they can activate Evgeni Dadonov and stay fully cap compliant. Sorry for any confusion. #TexasHockey

Lian Bichsel’s season with Leksand IF ended yesterday already after being eliminated in SHL play-in round. I’d expect him to sign a contract with Dallas in the coming days to get his feet wet in the AHL. He’s also an option for Swiss team at IIHF Worlds in May.🇨🇭 #TexasHockey

PSA: It's been widely reported that Dallas has around $7M to sign Thomas Harley, therefore an option to go long-term with him. In reality, if they go 22-man roster (see below) they'd only have around $5.45M of cap space. That's why I expect a 4-year deal for him (ends as RFA).

#TexasHockey prospect Lian Bichsel and Rogle BK are in the SHL playoff finals! Unbelievable run from 9th seed team: Barely squeaked into the playoffs and are currently riding a 13-game winning streak. 🇨🇭 Bichsel has 6 assists and average TOI of 22:30 during the 13-game stretch.

Joel Hanley was waived (most probably) in order to create a roster spot for an extra call-up as Dallas currently has only 12 healthy forwards – including Stankoven. I assume they don’t want to put Seguin on IR. Could it mean it’s finally Mavrik Bourque’s time? #TexasHockey

It's been a while since Dallas could use a full 23-man roster. This projected opening night roster still has roughly $600k in cap space, meaning Stars are well set to accrue money they could spend on trade deadline. Plus, they could still go 22-man and accrue more money faster.

To spread out the offense, this is what I’d try as soon as Roope Hintz is back: • Marchment – Hintz – Gurianov • Robertson – Seguin – Pavelski • Benn – Johnston – Dellandrea 24 has the ability to elevate both 27 & 34 and they showed good chemistry in preseason. #TexasHockey

It almost happened. Logan Stankoven *almost* had a pointless night, in his 24th game of the season – but then he scored an empty net goal. He’s now at 52 points (20 goals & 32 assists) in just 24 games and is also on a 24-game point streak to start his WHL season. #TexasHockey

Genuinely surprised about Dallas not qualifying Marián Studenič. He wanted to come back as well. 🧐 His qualifying offer ($787,500) was not activated. Still possible he signs at a lower cap hit, although you save only $12.5k AAV having him on league minimum deal. #TexasHockey

While I know everybody is deep into the Jason Robertson's new contract and what that might possibly be (me included) let's not forget the other big name. I'd consider it a good lesson learned for Stars if they lock Hintz up proactively, ideally already this training camp/fall.

I know this visualization is only for first round picks, but… Jason Robertson clears everybody not named Connor McDavid and it isn’t even close. He had 216 points through his first 200 NHL games. You can find gems like him even on Day 2. #TexasHockey

Since the calendar flipped to November, Anton Khudobin appeared in 9 games for the @TexasStars with a 4-2-1 record and posting an exceptional 0.932 save percentage during that span. Every day he looks more and more like the good old Dobby we knew. #TexasHockey
