This may look like nothing to most. Or
the beginnings of a lab space to others. But to me, this is so much. This is where my own basic science lab will be at
@OhioStateSurg
to advance research in coagulation. So excited & grateful for the support from my dept & mentors!
Graduated last night from
@CUDeptSurg
Gen Surg Residency. It’s been 16 years - 4 yrs of pre med, 1 year of grad school, 4 yrs of med school, 7 yrs of residency. In Denver - over 20,000 hrs & 1,600 surgeries. All only possible b/c of my family & hubby.
@OhioStateSurg
here we come!
We are beyond excited to announce that I matched at
@OSUSurgery
for SCC fellowship!! We are so excited to move home with our little Buckeye. Beyond grateful for all the mentorship and support I’ve gotten from
@CUDeptSurg
and
@DenverHealthMed
over the last 7 years. On to the next!
@hibsumra
It IS possible. I got engaged, married, and had a baby during residency. Being a surgeon makes me a better mom and being a mom makes me a better surgeon for sure. Is it hard sometimes? Sure, but frankly that’s true for ANY working mom. It IS possible ❤️
It’s been a whirlwind month, between a cross country move to taking written boards, but am relieved to say I passed
@AmBdSurg
QE! So grateful for all my teachers
@CUDeptSurg
. Now it’s time for fellowship -
@OhioStateSurg
here we come!
Logged my 1500th case of residency yesterday
@CUDeptSurg
and each one has been a privilege. It’s been a long 7 year road - looking forward to what’s in store next year at
@OhioStateSurg
!
After nearly 16 years away from home for training, I am thrilled for the best homecoming yet - staying
@OhioStateSurg
@OhioStateMed
as faculty in the Div of Trauma, Crit Care, & Burns. So excited to be a part of the
#buckeye
family and an awesome team!
@timpawlik
@carriesims20
Surreal to say I just finished my LAST 24 hour call at Denver Health
@DenverHealthMed
, with none other than
@ryanlawlessmd
! This place has made me the surgeon and person I am today, so grateful to have been able to train at this incredible place, with unmatched mentors.
That moment when you’re casually watching Netflix on your vacation and one of your idols pops up in the documentary! I see you
@AmaliaCochranMD
! 🙌
#surgleaders
I am so honored and excited to be staying at THE Ohio State University after fellowship as faculty. Tonight’s Annual State of the Department of Surgery by our Chair
@timpawlik
@OhioStateSurg
was a reminder of what an incredible place this is - and we have the numbers to prove it!
I’ve counted down to this day and it finally happened. My last day ever at
@DenverHealthMed
, the place where I grew up and learned how to be a trauma surgeon. Forever grateful to my Gray Team mentors.
AWS would like to congratulate these outstanding 40 under 40 surgeons. Over the next 40 days leading to the AWS conference in October, we will highlight each of these future leaders in surgery. Join us in congratulating and amplifying these amazing women.

for everything you’ve done for the next generation of surgeons. ❤️
I am proud of be a University of Colorado surgery resident. This post is full of inaccurate information (hours, frozen pay, etc). If you are interested in this program or have questions from reading this post, please reach out to me publicly or privately. (1/3)
“This program is toxic. It is probably more so for preliminary interns, but most of the residents I know I can guarantee have considered killing themselves at some point.”
The best part of the
@AmCollSurgeons
Leadership and Advocacy Summit day 1 reception was running into new Executive Director of ACS,
@pturnermd
. We are so lucky to have her as our leader and I’m so excited to work with her through
@RASACS
and
@acsTrauma
!
#ACSLAS22
I am interested in being more thoughtful about my leadership style and development. I know there are so many great books out there that have been recommended to me, but curious what book people think has been the most influential for you? Need a great one to start with!
Are you a medical student interested in surgery or trauma (or life of a
@CUDeptSurg
resident)? Follow me around tomorrow on my trauma shift at Denver Health with one of the greats,
@ClayBurlew
! I'll be posting throughout the day with
#AASTagAlong
@RASACS
Thank you to
@JTraumAcuteSurg
for the opportunity to serve as a reviewer! I actually really enjoy the process and love seeing what great science is being done at other institutions, plus reviewing usually motivates me to do deeper dives into the literature.
#surgscience
I am entirely ok with the fact that we often get confused for one another. Yes I’m Dr. Coleman, but no I’m not Jamie. If only! ❤️

Nothing like spending the day operating with none other than THE
@albujacm

I installed my first platelet incubator and agitator in my lab last week and filled it with my first platelet samples today - the nerd excitement is real! Grateful to
@OhioStateSurg
and
@OhioStateDHLRI
for supporting surgeon scientists and advancements in transfusion medicine!
Appreciative to
@AmCollSurgeons
for the opportunity to compete in the Surgical History Poster Competition! And for those of you that asked, no my poster was not about the history of TEG 😂

#surgfamily
And so it begins! The

#COT2022
And so it begins! Jumping right into

Clinical Congress with the Board of Regents meeting! Grateful to ACS &
@pturnermd
to have a voice at the table to advocate for residents, fellows & early career surgeons, all in the spirit of advancing patient care.

That moment your colleague tells you they’re not an

So grateful for all my colleagues who graduated last night, my mentors, and most importantly, my home.
@CUDeptSurg
graduation was a beautiful celebration last night!

While running in Chicago this morning, I wore my

Wow. What an impactful Frame Memorial lecture at

Tomorrow I am speaking to 50 high schoolers interested in careers in the sciences about a career in medicine. I've given conference talks & lectures but somehow am more nervous for this one?
#surgfamily
@RASACS
- help me! Words of advice for highlights of a career in medicine?
Just found out that none other than THE
@TomVargheseJr
will be speaking at our
@CUDeptSurg
13th annual John H. and Cynthia H. Schultz Lectureship next month! Who’s excited?! 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
Have been feeling disheartened by the NRA posting with the exact polarizing language that hampers our ability to frame firearm injury prevention as a public health issue and make progress as a community...until I saw one of my heroes
@JosephSakran
on tv and felt empowered again
Did YOU know that resident membership is free for

Just read this thought-provoking article on the issue of autonomy in surgical training in the United States in

Great idea! Any MS4’s (or any med student frankly) interested in surgery, don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any help - happy to review personal statements or CVs, mock interview preps, pep talks (I’m an expert hype woman), etc.
