🇳🇴 I wrote something personal on why I was drawn to Norwegian football, and how grateful I am for the impact it has had on both my life and my career.
Expect lots of mentions of Ronny Johnsen and Tromsø IL.
Takk, alle sammen!
Rio Ferdinand on Ødegaard’s assist: “You can’t give a locksmith like that the keys.”
What? The whole point of a locksmith is they don’t require the fucking keys 😂
The whole point of the handball law was to differentiate it from rugby football. You’re not supposed to manipulate the ball deliberately with your hands. The ball flicking your fingertips as it is smashed at you from two yards away isn’t fucking handball.
🎙️ Roberto De Zerbi(Marseille Coach) on Mason Greenwood:
“Everything you've heard about the boy is now in the past. We want to make him world class and build a team around him. To Manchester United, thank you”
I keep thinking about this, but what is genuinely the worst performance by a Premier League player ever? Like a 0/10, nothing good at all and overall unforgettable performance for the wrong reasons.
For people who don’t have a vested interest in Norwegian football, the manager of my club (Tromsø) has just agreed to become the assistant coach (assistant!) of their biggest rivals Glimt, and he’s taken our best defender with him.
Absolute madness.
@HLTCO
To be fair, of those 11 games Zaha has played vs WBA, Gardner was on the pitch for four of them.
Zaha’s record in those four games against Gardner:
1 goal, 2 yellows, subbed off twice.
Gardner in those four games:
2 goals, 1 yellow, subbed off once.
When Sir Alex Ferguson was asked who are the three most underrated players he’s managed:
• Brian McClair
• Ji-Sung Park
• Ronny Johnsen.
“Ronny would play midfield in a European quarter-final when there was a Zidane [to mark].”
@SamJonesMCR
I suppose the great irony of this is that Kane (Glenn Jacobs), now the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, actually voted against a mask mandate.
@RealDMitchell
Well, well, well. I have the same toaster as David Mitchell. I shall make some toast: one brown for the first course and one white for pudding.
Jaap Stam played three seasons in the Prem, won it three times, won the Champions League, won the FA Cup, won the Intercontinental Cup and won the Charity Shield.
Pretty sure he had a bigger impact on United than VVD had on Liverpool. (And Vidic is still better than van Dijk,
VVD is far better than Vidic, who was a top CB, but have you forgot his performances against Torres?
Rio & JT had poor seasons in their career like all players, VVD is having one now.
No CB in the PL era has ever had VVD’s impact on a team.
Sifting through
@rickygervais
’ retweets in a vain attempt to sort the genuinely offended people from the people pretending to be offended in the hope they might get a mention in his new show. This is a full time job, I fear.

Arsenal’s refusal to suspend him while inquiries are ongoing is frankly astonishing, while Arteta’s post-match remarks the other day were just so crass and harmful.
I know football is a team game, but if you’d allow me to indulge the selfish striker inherent in me, I was very proud to realise today I’ve now written for eleven issues of

Thank you to everyone who has ever taken the time to read my work. It means a lot.

He’s scored against Milan, Cagliari, Lecce and Sassulo (three of whom are in the bottom half) and drawn blanks against Sampdoria, Lazio and Juventus (two of whom are in the top six). It’s classic Lukaku; score against struggling teams and do nothing against decent teams.
Aren't many of you soon tired of writing "115" to everyone who writes something about Manchester City?
Now in September, the hearing finally starts. Then we have to wait until the decision comes. To speak out now in a very difficult legal matter is, in my opinion, frivolous. I

The way I see it, anyone can open a door with keys, so giving them to the locksmith — the person whose skill lies in unlocking the door without the keys — just undermines the ability of the locksmith.
Ah, the old “my religious beliefs mean I can’t support this” argument, as this monumental fucking bellend singularly fails to cover up the gambling sponsors that are also against his religion.
🚨🚨| Mohamed Camara could be facing a 𝟭𝟬-𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗦𝗨𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 by the LFP Disciplinary Committee. ⛔
The player covered the anti-homophobic logo on his Monaco shirt during the final Ligue 1 match. 🏳️🌈❌

It’s abhorrent that you, or indeed any person of colour, should be subjected to such ignorant, malicious abuse as this.
Just get the police involved.
Interesting game in Norway today. An ailing superpower that’s fallen on hard times and keeps hoping that buying old, crap players will somehow solve their deep-rooted problems.
But enough about Rosenborg, let’s talk about Manchester United.

If anything, United ‘99 is the best. Unbeaten from Christmas onwards and held off an Arsenal side that would’ve won the league in any other season.
Add to that the fact they beat Barca, Bayern and Inter, and Liverpool and Arsenal en route to the CL and FA Cup.
Unrivalled.
🇳🇴🥵 Another incredible season for Amahl Pellegrino (33) in Norway…
48 goal contributions in 47 games this season… top assister and goalscorer whilst winning Eliteserien!
His season is not over, Bodø/Glimt in UECL knockouts + cup final vs Molde this weekend.
Could we take a moment to recognise how brave Harriet Robson is to have shared these recordings and images? I hope she gets all the support, understanding and care she needs.
Mason Greenwood, on the other hand, is a horrendous human being.
The first ever kit my parents bought me was a 1997/98 United shirt with ‘Johnsen 5’ on the back when I was seven years old.
25 years later, having searched far and wide, I finally have the adult version. ❤️🤍🖤
Thanks

I’m giving away this copy of
@thesefootytimes
’ World Cup issue, so you can distract yourself from the shambles of a World Cup that is imminent.
To enter, just follow and retweet.
A winner will be drawn next week, and I’ll post the magazine out to you.
Good luck!
Chuffed that I’ve reached the stage where I can no longer feasibly fit all the magazines in which I’ve featured on my desk, so I’ve invested in a magazine rack.
Might seem small, but this feels like quite a big deal to me. 🤘🏻
Most accurate description I’ve ever heard of Sergio Busquets, courtesy of Roy Keane: “He can’t run, can’t tackle, but in a possession-based team, he passes forward and nine times out of ten he makes the right choice.”
It won’t surprise you to learn that writing about Batistuta for
@thesefootytimes
’ Fiorentina issue was an absolute dream. Probably my favourite thing I’ve ever written.
Today it arrived, so I had to whip out the shirt and get a photo or two. 💜
@avisualgame
The second, without a shred of doubt. I’ve played to a decent Saturday level and any time you get an ex-league player drop down the gap in quality is astonishing. Must be even greater between Sunday league and football league.
