@TheCartelDel
A lot of people here are repeating the same chicken or egg drivel "don't release it then"
That's exactly how you fix the issues, by releasing on a large user base then addressing all the strange setups that people own that cause issues.
Not releasing helps no one
Taken from an answered question on the Game art Community Discord.
If you aren't aligning your UV's before baking and are just 'hoping' they'll be fine for hard surface bakes at lower resolutions.
You might want to look at this.
Distance based mesh density.
Try and maintain density at scale.
Generally when modeling large things the smaller something is the more you should maintain that density at scale when permitted to do so.
View distance is the priority here, so this doesn't apply to fps props.
Happy to say I've managed to convince a company I am an artist and have a job lined up for January.
In seriousness, can't wait to start making some cool stuff and hope everyone else can land feet first in regards to the crazy 2023 situation we are currently living through.
What Polish setting to use in ZBrush when smoothing out midpoly meshes for the 'smooth' look?
I personally use Polish Crisp Edges with the circle unchecked, It preserves the underlying forms just enough while smoothing them.
Polish with an open circle, avoid at all costs.
What's it like to create without limits?
-Interlinked.
Do they teach you how to model in Ngons?
-Interlinked.
Do you long for having your polygons interlinked?
-Interlinked.
Do you dream about topology?
-Interlinked.
Within polygons interlinked.
-Within polygons interlinked
Complex example of using the deformation smooths in ZBrush
Polish closed circle gives the best result but takes the longest on dense meshes
Polish open circle adds a rim to edges.
Polish Crisp closed circle on takes multiple smooths
Polish Crisp open circle fastest & least uses
Issues with midpoly to highpoly meshes in zbrush causing faceting?
Smooth by features is here to save the day!
Small step process to stop those issues.
@moons_artwork
He really got you with that one.
Going against all standard career paths that secure financial solidarity for the pursuit of passion over money.
Not to mention requires mastery very few achieve due to dedication of time. You clearly must be privileged.
Another train? Ok then, switching this one up with older art just so I can work in a pun.

A theoretical thing that many artists within industry experience. Many times the real world doesn't look realistic when echoed in games and film and quite commonly it's pointed out without asking what the reference looks like.
The biggest thing no one is talking about in regards to layoffs is that a loss in job is more than just switching over to somewhere new.
Often you have to completely uproot yourself, move halfway across the world and change lifestyles.
Families, finances & health are affected

@klautier_art
I would like to point out this isn't correct.
Maybe for mobile, no.
But for AAA 100% yes, if you see faceting on a silhouette of a model in an FPS game, you are not doing AAA.
So, Stumbled upon this again after using blender then realizing this just needs fixing about now
@autodesk
3DS splines not being able to rotate(bank) in 3d space.. Seriously??
Even polycount talked about this issue in 2015, why is this still not a feature.
Gave myself 30 mins, so decided to do an all in one Subdiv chair.
Haven't messed with blenders curve tools too much, so slowed down a lot on that part.
QRT you 3D modeling a chair! Took about 30 mins just thought I would have a little fun and model something really quick. (don't look too close) I know some parts aren't the best but it was for fun xD
@jeffsimpsonkh
I love the stance of the developers milking it, like "finally we've solved one of our biggest problems"
Apparently becoming an artist is now a hindrance, not a creative field
I've used Max, Maya, Modo, cinema4d, blender, fusion and 3d coat in Industry.
But I've never forced software into a development pipeline that wasn't native unless needed or necessary.
You use what you're given unless you can use what you want.
Never thought of that as an issue.

Haven't seen any 'actual artists' that do AI prompting because all actual artists that try it immediately see its limitations and aspects that make it a lot more miss than hit.
You'll spend all your time fixing the errors it introduced.
Prompting is steering a car with no wheel
Just a reminder, I am still looking for work. Currently interviewing at 3 places all of which have had me on hold the past 3 weeks.
Remote opportunities only at this point.

Not an art director but artist.
Can be used in fairly subtle and varied ways. Portal comes to mind when I think of it tastefully done to support the lack of visual narrative you'd introduce with cutscenes

I think the biggest factor in this is simply advertisement for said campaign.
I only am aware of the Kickstarter because I follow your socials.
You really need that marketing campaign push on demos, youtubers, steam and social shares.
Amidst all this bad news, just a reminder rebellion has over 50 positions available.
Intern VFX artist position amongst those.
I'll be posting links to a bunch.

The teething issues with them finally releasing this statement after almost 2 months of protests and their CEO blocking people and arguing that it stifles development it really feels like a sour, shallow victory.
I'll continue to use it, but not support it for the future.
@AaditDoshi
The common thought that game devs just run headstrong into bad ideas is usually a fallacy, they either hit or miss their market and succeed/fail. Most developers actually try and catch bad things way before release, we are gamers too and usually want our game to also succeed.
Amongst many others, my last day at CA is today after 3 years which is met with sadness, but I'm also excited for my next venture. What I'll be working on next will be very cool to say the least.
All of this data was grabbed from SF just prior to their whole fiasco with the NoAI tagging. This is what happens when you choose to employ a NoAI tag rather than stating that scraping the site would be against their TOS.

Questions as to why this is probably not a good thing.
Where has the trained data come from?
Why do need this ability?
What are the legal ramifications?
Do I own what I create?
Is data created used to train it's data?
Who has been asking for this feature?
What does this promote?

My guess is it will stagnate an already stagnant industry.
UK games industry is really in peril thanks to the government, Brexit and failure to match global industry.
Famous first words of a university lecturer I had at Hertfordshire. "You are no longer art butterflies, You art art whores. You make work to sell, and to do that you can't be personal about your work" can't say I wholly agree, but there's a lot of truth in that statement.
Taking your hobby and turning it into your career via studying it at university, fundamentally changes your relationship to the hobby.
You used to draw solely for yourself, now you're drawing outside your comfort zone for other people 1/2

how he would approach his UVS for this kind of thing and so did a dive on the model he was working on. This is how I would approach this but have more to say as to what not to do with these kinds of models if you are to make them for games.
@ArtOfPilgrim
As a control you should show people what it looks like when the metallic is just 0 or 1, I totally agree in terms of the material response for dusts, rusts and oxides but people seem to not visually know why. It's the same reason blood in games is usually slightly metallic too
@GeorgeCrudo
Oh wait it's giving a result that's the same as the input, that's a bad look for us because it proves the data plagiarizes.
We should 'fix that' next release.
It's inherently the issue my guys, it's how the AI works.
