A study by Van Dyk et al 2019 showed we can reduce incidence by 50% when following a Nordic hamstring protocol (as shown) This protocol shows a graduated increase throughout a 10 week period (perfect for preseason) which will help significantly your chances of avoiding one.

How do we treat these? Well tendons aren’t like other injuries and don’t react well to rest. We need to use a graduated loading programme on these to increase their load acceptability like this from Baxter et al 2021. The same principle applies for knees & hamstrings.

9️⃣ Snus! Now this has become a popular trend over the last 10 years and I see more and more players taking this before and even during training/games. Snus has been shown to have detrimental effects on performance such as reactions & endurance and therefore has ^ injury risk.

1️⃣ Look after your hamstrings. Hamstring injuries are the most common injury in football with them making up around 25% of all injuries. With the BAMIC grading system ranging from 1-4 & a-c, this can mean anywhere from 7 days to 3-4 months out and even surgery being required.
