@barstoolsports
People really here think anyone had a better chance than Notre Dame? You can’t tell me with a straight face the A&M team that lost by 27 deserved to be in more. Alabama is just easily the best team in the country and is miles more talented than anyone, excluding Clemson. Stop.
NEWS:
- Source says Kevin Keatts is going to be out at NC State following the ACC Tournament.
- Georgetown AHC Ivan Thomas is the frontrunner for the job at Hampton. All but done there.
- Not a surprise, but Jim Larranaga will return to UMiami next season. Not retiring.
With the news of Caleb Williams’ commitment, Georgetown’s 2024 recruiting class is now ranked third in the country per 247, behind only UNC and Rutgers.
Breaking the Ed Cooley news before major outlets last year was fun, but this might be the highlight of my career covering Georgetown basketball so far. A 30 second clip of
@John_Fanta
and I throwing around words to describe just how bad Georgetown became under Ewing.
ESPN ranks Georgetown's 2024 recruiting class 7th in their most recent class rankings released this morning.
"Ed Cooley's first full recruiting class in the nation's capital is in great shape. The Hoyas have four four-star prospects, including three ranked inside the ESPN 100."
Random thought but: Can Ed Cooley please bring back Hoya Madness? Seems like an easy first step to re-engaging the student body on campus and drumming up excitement for the season. May be a tad biased because next fall will be my last as a student, but I’m still asking.
Seeing a lot of tweets about the future and next season on the TL today, and I was gonna hold this until we got closer to PortalSZN, but what the hell.
I’m told Georgetown’s NIL budget is around $4M next season and could rise to as much as $5M when the ‘25 cycle is wrapped.
@ATLSportsWire
@barstoolsports
The cincy team who just lost to Georgia, who got smacked by Alabama as well? The A&M team whose signature win was Florida, who despite giving Alabama a good game, got absolutely clowned by Oklahoma? Stop.
Georgetown’s current 2023-24 roster is as follows:
G Jayden Epps
G Rowan Brumbaugh
G Jay Heath
G/F Wayne Bristol Jr.
F Ismael Massoud
F Dontrez Styles
F Drew McKenna
F Akok Akok
F/C Drew Fielder
C Ryan Mutombo
C Supreme Cook
Preferred Walk-On: Hashem Asad
Can confirm Georgetown will hire URI assistant and former Louisville & Indiana assistant Kenny Johnson to replace the void on its staff left by the departure of Ivan Thomas.
Experienced coach with deep ties to the DMV at Paul VI HS and as the former Director at Team Takeover.
I’ve decided for Hoya Twitter. Our hashtag needs to be
#RichAsShit
. Spam it everywhere. If Cooley reels in Omoruyi I want that hashtag in every reply everywhere on this app.
Also, in case you’re wondering, Georgetown just tied its win total from all of last season (7) after today’s victory in South Bend.
It’s December 16th.
At my high school’s basketball game and the opposing team’s coach called a play named Georgetown.
The result, you ask?
Contested 3 with 2 seconds left on the shot clock that did not go in.
Can’t make this stuff up.
HELLO THERE, MICAH PEAVY!!!
In all seriousness, Peavy should slot in as a physical 4 for Ed Cooley. Was rated as TCU’s best defender per
@EvanMiya
last season. Massive get to start the portal for Ed Cooley & Co.
NEWS: TCU transfer guard Micah Peavy has committed to Georgetown, he tells
@On3sports
.
The 6-8 senior averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Former top-40 recruit.
We started booing Syracuse as they came off the court, so Judah Mintz starts booing us back.
Me: Jayden Epps is going for 30 on your head!
Judah: Oh I bet
Wow. Certainly one to watch for Georgetown with the recent hiring of Kenny Johnson. Hammond is a stud out of Paul VI and the Hoyas are in desperate need of a guard off the bench.
NEWS: 2024 4⭐️ Ben Hammond tells me he’s requested a release from his NLI and will reopen his recruitment.
Hammond is a tough, crafty lead guard who has great shiftiness and burst with the ball in his hands. A good finisher around the basket and a shotmaker from the outside.
Most Capital One Arena sounding thing I’ve ever seen. The staff there are always unnecessarily abrasive to students and fans, especially over the last two years when the majority of games are virtually empty. Nothing Georgetown can do about it, but frustrating.
There are literally so few people here that security by me is going seat to seat to ask people to see their tickets and making them move back if they've moved down a little. It's empty, what on Earth is the point of making a dad and his 3 kids move back 10 rows?
🧵 on Georgetown arena madness:
I feel like the Wizards and Capitals permanently moving to Alexandria forces the Georgetown admins to make a decision regarding building an arena. Capital One won’t be there just to house Gtown
🧵Seeing all the posts of old Georgetown-Cuse games at Cap One come back up on the TL has me thinking: why don’t we have a designated student section shirt anymore? What happened to the We Are Georgetown gray shirts? That has to return in some capacity next season.
Other first half takeaway: Bristol should start rest of the season. 25+ minutes rest of the way. Never seen the guy give anything less than 120% on the floor.
@ShehanJeyarajah
@RedditCFB
Ohio State vs. Iowa = 54-10 OSU
Michigan vs. Iowa = 27-14 Michigan
OSU’s nonconference win against Notre Dame even at 5-3 is also light years better than UConn, Colorado State, and Hawaii.
Presented WITH comment. Providence objectively had a way better resume than Virginia, and you can make the argument that both Saint John’s and Seton Hall have equally superior resumes to the Cavaliers. Utter and complete disgrace to take UVA over any of the Big East’s bubble trio
Let's go!!! Expanded student section and buses leaving earlier than normal (typically 90 minutes before tip). Clear that the University is expecting a madhouse tonight.
NEWS: Harvard transfer guard Malik Mack has committed to Georgetown,
@On3sports
has learned.
The 6-1 freshman averaged 17.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this season. Was the Ivy League ROY.
GEORGETOWN COACHING 🧵: For those not tuning in to spaces or who are unaware of specifics with Georgetown: While we are obviously not sure on who will be the next coach, we have gathered various pieces of information that will be key over the next week or so. Here’s what we know:
Cooley on Rowan & Drew today:
“These two young men are growing right in front of our eyes and I couldn’t be prouder of them as we get ready to start Big East play. Y’all may not have any questions for them but let me tell you something: We don’t win the game without these two.”
They’re getting us now, as they should. Tend not to invest much in coach-speak but we had this game won in an extremely hostile environment against a clearly superior opponent. Ed had these guys ready to play, execution was sloppy down the stretch. Happens with a new group.
Here's what Georgetown's depth chart looks like as of right now for next season:
Mack / ? (Transfer or Hammond)
Epps/ Mulready
Peavy / McKenna / Williams
transfer / Fielder
transfer / Sorber / Cook
Hoyas have 3 spots left, could see them leaving one open with this roster
Good morning. The NCAAB transfer portal is now open.
Reminders:
- Georgetown has between $4-5M to work with this offseason. Top 5 budget in the nation for 2024-2025.
- Hoyas should have at least 4 spots to work with in the portal, potentially more with any unexpected departures
Briefly spoke about this possibility in the space, but expect Harvard guard Malik Mack to enter the portal.
The DMV native averaged 17/4/4 as a true freshman this season. Played HS ball at St. John's College HS here in DC. Could be an option for the Hoyas but will have suitors.
Two weeks ago Merrimack beat former Cooper Flagg destination Maine on the road.
Tonight it was upset by Georgetown.
Anarchy? Nope. Just college basketball
Just an unreal story for this program.
Interim coach Darnell Haney and the Hoyas knock off Creighton and advance to the Big East Tournament championship game for the first time in program history.
Kelsey Ransom postgame: “We just got that dawg in us.”
Georgetown is the leader for Harvard transfer Malik Mack, source told
@TheFieldOf68
.
The 6-1 freshman averaged 17.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game this past season as a freshman.
Ed Cooley has already landed TCU transfer Micah Peavy. The trio of Jayden Epps,
Half the student body is in Lauinger Library prepping for finals and finishing up those last homework assignments. Me? I’m studying Georgetown lineup combos and advanced metrics on KenPom/EvanMiya to see where the Hoyas can develop as a team this year. We are not the same.
Georgetown announces that free hats will be distributed to the first 1000 students at tomorrow’s game and that both sides of the student sections will be opened. Buses start rolling at 9:30am.
Will keep a running thread on all the players Georgetown has contacted as PortalSZN really gets going. To start:
Jacob Meyer, Coastal Carolina
Camren Hunter, Central Arkansas
Georgetown senior Wayne Bristol Jr. has entered the transfer portal,
@247SportsPortal
has learned.
Averaged 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds this season, appearing in 32 games for the Hoyas.
Guys those photos are fake. Dickinson is NOT on Georgetown’s campus. Sources telling me that’s the Chick Fil A in Radnor, PA, just steps away from Villanova’s campus.
If you’re curious at all, know that Cap One is going to be a SCENE tomorrow. There is a Senior Class Committee pregame event and one other event both within two blocks of the arena for students. Not to mention Rocket Bar’s inevitability. 100% going to need both student sections
In case there was still any doubt by the way, sources have seen Kenny Johnson on campus in the last few days. As I’ve said from the beginning, he is the hire.
Whether or not Georgetown will announce it today (or ever) is the question.
23 combined minutes for the two freshmen in a game that was largely never competitive. What are we doing here?
Brumbaugh gave you 11 points on 5-6 shooting in 14 minutes! At some point you have to give them serious run and look to next year because this year’s over.
It’s literally so simple: cancel the project for the “research building” that’s never being built next to Regents Hall & put those funds toward Key Bridge Marriott. I think you’d be surprised how many alums and donors would be eager to pitch in for a Georgetown arena.
@BucketsBradley
I wonder how college coaches considering adding you to their team would feel about you continuing to beat this dead horse instead of moving on and focusing on your next destination/opportunity.
Hope you find the peace you are looking for, Brad!
NEWS: Georgetown signee Marvel Allen tells me he has requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent and will reopen his recruitment.
