What frustrates me is the growing obviousness that the AMPTP itself is an entity that exists solely to union bust. Carol Lombardini is not authorized to make deals, and this strike will only end when the studio heads come in to directly bargain. Everything else is waiting.

This is not complicated. On August 11, the AMPTP finally made their first full counteroffer to the WGA proposal, after more than three months of striking. On August 15, the WGA responded with a new counteroffer. On August 22, the AMPTP said, “it’s the Aug 11 deal or nothing.”

Any reporting on the continuation of the strike MUST include the fact that the WGA countered the AMPTP’s August 11 counteroffer on August 15, which the studios subsequently ignored and called the 8/11 their final offer, rather than responding to the 8/15 counteroffer.

The background actors, too, will be safe from “scanned” sessions being used in perpetuity, too. Eventually, AMC will have a competitive advantage over the big AMPTP studios, which puts pressure on them to accede, or make their own interim deals. This is, again, an enormous win.

Each new interim agreement gives SAG•AFTRA more bargaining power. The AMPTP is NOT unified, and have wildly varying business models. The studios that need content will make deals to keep up with competition. Eventually the rest will have to either pay up or stay on the sideline.
