We need to get serious about helping people buy their first home by making it more expensive for people to buy their third, fourth and fifth home. This data is very concerning.
StatsCan finds investors own a huge share of housing in Ontario’s 10 largest urban areas.🧵
In Toronto investors own:
37% of condo apartments
9% to 16% of houses
57% of condo apartments built in the past 5 years
14% to 32% of houses built past 5 years
()
This landlord has harassed these tenants for months, and when the tenant gives up and leaves the company converts the apartment into a weekly illegal short-term rental. This building is a very sorry case study of the province's failure to protect renters.
The Ford Conservatives are telling Ontarians that if you cannot afford a single detached home, you may not be welcome in the neighbourhood you want to call home.
This is a gut-punch for the millions of Ontarians currently struggling to pay rent, or save up for their first home.
