The temperature at the Maison St. Louis Observatory and Jersey Airport have now surpassed the all time record of 36.0°C and will continue to rise until late afternoon. Records began at St. Louis in 1894 and at the Airport in 1951.

After the record breaking heat yesterday, it’s been an exceptionally warm night at Maison St. Louis Observatory, with the temperature not dropping below 27°C so far. To put this into context, that’s 5°C above the average max daytime temperature we would expect in mid-July.

Jersey has recorded its highest March air temperature since records began at Maison St Louis in 1894, with the value so far today reaching 21.4°C at 240pm. The origins of this very warm air can be seen shifting up from central Spain across Brittany.

This time yesterday a severe thunderstorm affected the island bringing frequent lightning, strong winds, torrential rain and some flash flooding. The lightning map below shows all lightning strikes between 7pm and 10pm. Thanks to Matt Noel @SaltyLens_CI for the beautiful photo.

For the second day in a row, we have broken our Island maximum temperature record for the month of February. Yesterday, we recorded 16.9°C on the official thermometer at the Maison St Louis observatory. Today, we went on to to record 17.1°C. Wow!

Howard Davis Farm recorded a total of 328.7mm of rain in November 2023. This is provisionally the highest amount of rain reported at any of our observing sites in Jersey, for any month across all the years that we've been observing the weather.

It's been our hottest 2019 day so far, which is a fantastic stat for the 1st day of meteorological summer! 27.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Maison St Louis Observatory. The day isn't over yet, but we might just have been the hottest spot in the British Isles today.

Storm Ciaran briefly brought winds reaching Hurricane Force 12 to the Island, gusts recorded at St Helier Harbour up to 83kt/96mph peaking around 4:30 a.m. this morning. Jersey Airport recorded a gust of 88kt/101mph. Coastguard at St. Helier recorded a gust of 89kt/102mph.

What a glorious weekend we're having! The temperature has reached 16.9°C at the Maison St Louis Observatory so far this afternoon, a whopping 8 degrees above average and the highest February temp ever recorded in Jersey! The previous record of 16.2°C was set way back in 1948.

A very dramatic thunderstorm last night, and quite an unusual one. So often we see thunderstorms lose their energy as they cross the cool Channel waters. But this one actually blossomed around Les Minquiers, with cumulonimbus clouds almost doubling in height in just half an hour.

Fractionally short of being a June record breaker. Today's max temperature at Maison St Louis Observatory was 32.7°C. To put that into context, our hottest ever June 25th was 32.9°C and our hottest ever June day was precisely 33.0°C.

Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day! 🌧️☂️☔️ The last 6 weeks has been particularly wet and we've now had 43 consecutive days where rain has affected the island, although on one of these days (22nd October) only negligible rainfall amounts were recorded.

You may have seen the striking parhelia (or 'sun dogs') either side of the sun this evening. These are caused by refraction of sunlight by the ice crystals in the high cirrostratus cloud that is moving across the area at the moment.

Low pressure lies to the west of the UK with high pressure to the east acting like cogs in the atmosphere, drawing up very warm air from France and Spain. The temperature in Jersey is likely to reach 30°C tomorrow, which would make it one of the warmest September days on record.

High tide at 8.02am this morning, at a recorded height of 12.04m, a little higher than astronomical predicted height due to low pressure. As a result of recent cold weather the sea temperature is currently 6.3°C, the coldest local sea temperature since February 2010.

A maximum temperature of 29.6°C was recorded at Maison St Louis this afternoon, the warmest day in Jersey for over a year (since 20th June 2017 to be exact). A degree or so 'cooler' tomorrow, but plenty more sunshine in store with the UV levels again expected to reach 7.
