First, we give a stripped down version of the probabilistic model of belief that we've developed in other papers. Second (and mainly) we explore what principles of belief revision end up holding in this model, with lots of concrete counterexamples along the way.

(If you've been closely following the EPIC STRUGGLE of @TWilliamson55 vs @MITphilosophy over the KK principle, you probably associate "normality" in epistemology w/ MIT. We show how it can also be used to derive TW's anti-KK models of the unmarked clock. Normality for everyone!)

We argue that being sure is the basic norm on assertion (against @TWilliamson55 , who thinks it's knowledge, and @jasonintrator and Bob Beddor, who think it's what's certain for you), and being unsure is the norm on inquiry.

@agholdier Multi-paper dissertations are definitely the way to go professionally, and I think they're pretty normalized by now. Also it doesn't matter what your department thinks, only what your letter writers think.

@rgblong I think it was the rise of phil perception; many now associate "qualia" theories with those opposed to representational and direct realist theories, whereas earlier I think it was more or a sloppy catch all for pheneomenal characters/what-it's-like-y properties

Epistemology twitter: what theories of knowledge accept single-premise closure but not multi-premise closure? (For justified belief there's Lockeanism, but I have no idea how to extend Lockeanism to a theory of knowledge that avoids Gettier problems.)

I'm not sure though how much the elimination of classics departments is likely to increase the likelihood that philosophy departments will suffer the same fate, in part for the reason Josh mentioned (that it doesn't seem to be happening so far).
