Our basic idea: if a possibility is enough less normal than your actual situation, then you can know that it doesn't obtain. We show how this idea can be fleshed out into a theory of knowledge in terms of the comparative normality situations not ruled out by your evidence. 3/n

@LedermanHarvey Definitely acceptable. It's unfortunate that co-authored pubs, especially advisor-co-authored ones, send a weaker signal on the job market. But co-authoring can be such a powerful tool for professional development that this and other such considerations can often be overridden

@xphilosopher It's hard to get formal methods training to stick if it's not in the context of applying them to a philosophical question one already cares about. So I'm pro more formal methods in proseminars, but also advisers should encourage their students to learn diss-adjacent formal stuff

@LedermanHarvey @xphilosopher Thanks, that makes sense. I'm not sure though how much the elimination of classics departments is likely to increase the likelihood that philosophy departments will suffer the same fate, in part for the reason Josh mentioned (that it doesn't seem to be happening so far).
