Hello Sooner Nation!
This week is my 5 year anniversary as the Director of Athletic Fields. Sadly, this is also my final week with OU. I can’t thank OU Athletics enough for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to live a dream. It was an honor and a privilege to
I’m fortunate that my staffs hard work gets noticed, but I want to give it up to the other countless OU staff, most of them behind the scenes, that worked their tails off to pull off what they did to get this new stadium ready for play. 🙏
The past 2 weeks has been a much needed break for our field. Got it seeded with ryegrass, it’s been perfect weather for the seedlings. We will get it painted up next week for UCF game. Should look really good for Homecoming.
Near perfection! It’s been nice not having any play on it since early March. Few more weeks until players come back, then it becomes a real challenge again.
Last week I got called “Fat Boy” by Kansas St fans for eating crackers on the sideline, this week I got flipped off by Texas fans for cheering hard for my team. I LOVE MY JOB!!
Uni raked 3 directions, mowed too many times to count, swept, seeded and topdressed. Looks ugly now, but give it 7 to 10 days and it’ll be beautiful again.
Got it cleaned up after this afternoons walk through. It’s game ready for tomorrow. Can’t thank my staff enough, they’re the best!

Everyone asking me why the Super Bowl field is so slick. It isn’t the Tahoma Bermuda grass making it slick, it’s the ungodly high rate of ryegrass overseed that’s causing the issues IMO. The Tahoma is just the base holding the ryegrass.
It’s crazy that spring ball is already here, for our staff anyway.
@cmbuchman
and
@CHeffleyOU
are getting our practice fields painted up today and tomorrow for practice that starts next week.
The collars around these greens were not in good condition. Today we started repair work by removing approximately 6’ of bad grass around each green and will replace it with Tahoma 31. Chambers Golf Construction is doing the work for us.

Thank you for this Travis! I was very proud of the field yesterday. It’s not just me though, it takes a team to do what we do and I’ve got a good one. The Athletic Dept is loaded with under the radar and behind the scenes personnel like Event management and Facilities

getting it painted up for cruits this weekend. Rye is looking pretty good for this early in the season. The weather in February was more kind to us this year.
Most people don’t realize how important early morning direct sunlight is for grass growth. The north end of OUr field gets this direct light and it grows considerably faster than the south end.
About 10 years ago our ShiTzu got our Pit mix pregnant, honestly didn’t think that was possible. We learned our lesson and got them both fixed shortly after this. Thought this would be fun to share since we see so much negativity on this app.
I took a break from Twitter these past few weeks. Wanted to share a few pics from our trip to SW Colorado. Imogene Pass from Ouray to Telluride was just phenomenal, as were all the jeep trails we got to do!
