Rueben Award Winner | 2x Eisner nominated Writer-cartoonist of comics & painter of things. Currently working on sequel to award-winning debut graphic novel Kodi
SO EXCITED to finally talk about this!
It’s official… I signed on and have the greenlight. We’re back, friends, with a new adventure in a second Kodi book. I can’t wait to share concept art, sketches and process as the book comes together.❤️🙍🏼♀️🐻

Big 🐇 commission- a Usagi Yojimbo complete sketchbook I did in an art-trade with someone. I can’t share the whole thing until it’s received. I do sell these and individual pages- which I’m going to be doing a sale on for con season. Will share the whole thing soon!
Another Usagi Yojimbo “what if” set in 1984 instead of Edo era Japan for fun with the VW ‘rabbit.’ These have been so fun to draw! 🐇 ⚔️

My two paintings “Petroglyphs on Kodiak Island” and “boots” were invited to the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society’s international Aqueous Open. That’s fun!
On the drafting table.. fun little project with these characters. I miss drawing/painting them- it’s been a real joy to play around in this sandbox again ❤️🐻🙍🏼♀️
I have drawn/painted my wife at least a thousand times in our 12 years together. She gets more and more beautiful every day. She’s my hero and my best friend.
This painting of her and my daughter is in an online exhibition right now on
He was 1 when I wrote it. 2 when it pitched. At 3 he wanted to help so I made a table next to mine to paint together. He’s 5 now & it fills my heart to hear him laughing at the jokes and referring to it with pride as “our book,” available tomorrow

Just a little 🐇 fun. I was painting and sketched this car. It’s a 1984 which was the same year Usagi y published and it got me daydreaming about a world where Usagi took place in 84 instead of Edo Japan so I did some sketches and this painting. Bonus if you know the type of car
Took apart an old briefcase I found and rebuilt it as a watercolor travel pochade box. It can haul all of my supplies and paper for large (12x18) or small.
Some super exciting news, friends.. I heard it was announced at SDCC so I’ll mention it here..
1. The variant cover series I did for Usagi Yojimbo is coming out soon! (Ice & snow 2-5)
2. I’m working with the wonderful Sakais on a watercolor ‘Art of Usagi Yojimbo’ book soon!🐇🗡️
Gouache and watercolor side by side demo for the Northwest Watercolor Society. What a fun group! It was an honor to demo with them and chat about painting.
Ever since I began to draw, it's been a long-shot starry-eyed dream to one day eventually be considered for the Eisner Awards. I am overwhelmed with thankfulness for these two nominations for Kodi.

2 pages of Kodi 2 prepping for varnish as to not smear the scanner. I’m using a mix of impasto gouache and soft pastels to bring back light, atmosphere and color character for this book.

📖 My book. My 4 year painting-marathon. It’s been a long journey and here it is. I’ve always been jealous of artists who post their finished stack of pages. Finally. Here’s mine :) 170 hand painted pages. Not including paste-overs- edits and failed pages. Hits stores in June!

Good news, everyone! Excited to finally share.. I’m painting a series of covers for Usagi Yojimbo! This is a WIP for one. Also have some other huge unrelated art-news… but I can’t talk about that yet. 🤫 but soon!
Comics process post: I paint my panels by first building value based on 2 compliments to make a harmonious gray. (Yellow/lavender | blue/orange) I try to forget what I’m painting and focus on the planes and “sculpt” focused on the light. A ship is the same as a shoe box.
Every time I get a chance to work with this character 🐇 - not only am I just full of gratitude but I don’t know what’s more fun to draw/paint- the expressive character or the fabrics.
One last painted up “what if” image board from my sketches of a re-imagined Usagi Yojimbo set in 1984. Wanted to do at least one with a villain. So here is the infamous Jei with defiant Miyamoto in the made up Usagi-1984 world. 🙂 🐇 ⚔️
If you stopped me as a kid– you would have found a sketchbook packed w Usagi Yojimbo & a Usagi TMNT action figure. Imagine my shock recently when I received an email from the creator, having seen my book, inquiring if I would be interested in working on a variant cover for Usagi
🦛 I have a regular collector who, for the past couple years, has been commissioning me to paint well-known paintings from art-history but with hippos/animals. It is one of the most fun things I get to draw from time to time :) this is Washington crossing the Delaware.
Less than a week left to sign up for my gouache found still life workshop! One night, $50, ($10 off previous students or patrons) July 3 6-9pm est. more info in link tree in bio.
Working on Kodi 2. When I painted Kodi, I was learning watercolor &struggled to get the tools to do what I wanted. After hundreds of pages and plein air studies- i still feel I’m barely scratching the surface but I have a couple party tricks to light the scenes as I want to.
Because of my usual kids-work I don’t often get requests for super-folks. Here’s a commission I had for the spectrum of Lanterns.

🐇 sketchbook study. Still doing an end of year sale on these character sketchbook pages or whole sketchbooks (12 pages cold-press). This is a commissioned complete character sketchbook.
Here's my scanned and collected Hourlys for Hourly Comic Day 2020 | Wowza, that was fun. I miss journal-comics. I could this forever.

Warm-up prep-sketches in the sketchbook for a job I’m working on. I can’t talk about it yet but I will say it is for this little known karate troupe one might describe as both Mighty and morphin’. More about it soon! 🥋 🎨 🤫
Took my watercolor tank out today plein air painting at the Pittsburgh Observatory Hill. The Yellowstone standard from Alla Prima Pochade - I can pack all my heavy watercolor gear in one box.
Without live events I have not gotten many character requests but here is a couple fun ones I did recently of Mrs Brisby and Mowgli
