Ten months ago, we launched the Vesuvius Challenge to solve the ancient problem of the Herculaneum Papyri, a library of scrolls that were flash-fried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Today we are overjoyed to announce that our crazy project has succeeded. After 2000

"Backends" in the web stack are a weird accident of history. GUIs used to talk directly to databases; this is why most SQL dbs have logins, access control, stored procedures, triggers, even testing frameworks.

The inception continues. We now have: - VALL-E (my LLM val generator) - Which in an iframe made a meta-evaluator - Which in an iframe runs an evaluator tool - Which in an iframe runs VALL-E - Which in an iframe runs a generated example app (wrapped in a val that captures errors)

I built a VALL-E evaluator (E-VALL-uator?), using VALL-E. It runs VALL-E in an iframe and then tests if the output has any errors (that final output is like 3 levels of iframes deep now). It's okay, I'm getting hella confused too.

A lot of people have the misconception that writing their app in a lower level language (ex: Rust) that runs in WASM and renders in a <canvas> would be (if nothing else) good for performance This is… probably… mostly… not the case. Okay it’s not the case. It’ll be slower.
