So we're at the point now where the government can just unilaterally reopen BBC licence fee deals. Whether you agree with the reasoning or not, it is an incursion on the BBC's independence. That should give us all pause for thought.

Why? Industry figures suspect that, at best, the govt underappreciates a sector worth £6.3b. At worst, actively undermines it, freezing BBC funding, targeting C4, and now fiddling with tax. In not unrelated news, the UK just named its 12th culture secretary in 13 yrs.
