I remember one female attending on my pediatrics rotation said to me, “this is fantastic, we need more brilliant women becoming surgeons” - and I told myself I would try to be this person for the rest of my life
Me, an intern in the CTICU at night, trying to forgive myself with the steep learning curve. It’s the paradox of drowning in information and starving for knowledge. Time to grow up fast. Heart surgeons waste no time.
@DukeCTSurgery
PASSED my final

exam and headed to Atlanta!!! No matter how hard the daily grind can get, I LOVE my life!!! No matter where you are, don’t give up!!!
Thank you to everyone who has gotten me this far. I am grateful for where I’m at, and excited about where I’m going. Looking forward to the privilege of taking care of surgical patients during residency training!

Thank you to the

What is wellness in residency? Protected time off, equitable call, admin support to cultivate the career and life you want. All the above is possible while still taking optimal care of the patient. Ft. last month’s bday weekend.
April 4, 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the world's first total artificial heart implant by

STS as an MS1 vs

4,500-year-old Egyptian dress, painstakingly reassembled from approximately 7,000 beads, was found in an undisturbed tomb in Giza, Egypt. The dress is believed to have belonged to a female contemporary of King Khufu (2589-2566 BC). Although the original strings had disintegrated
That post-call moment of inception when you are a potato, eating free cafeteria potatoes, thriving in your night float potato existence, after withholding potatoes from your morning surgery-bound patients. 🥔🥔🥔
My idea of Friday night lights ☀️ Academic surgery never ceases to invigorate me. My gratitude is enormous for my

One of the greatest hurdles you confront may be one largely of your own making. [I am] haunted at every step by the fear that I am a fraud. I now understand I should have spent less time worrying and more time appreciating.

We often discuss cardiopulmonary reserve & functional status as measures of surgical fitness, but I’m realizing that beginning & maintaining a surgical career demand this same sort of reflection. We’re lucky here in Houston to have this awesome outdoor space!
Name that tune. This was after the last case on one of our sub-Is.
