This is what Virat Kohli has done versus each ball in the over, in T20 cricket over the last 3 years.
It's really interesting how his approach totally changes from the 1st ball (where he attacks) to the 6th ball (where he is desperate to keep the strike).

A few people asked for what Rohit Sharma does off each ball of an over in T20 cricket. See below...
Seems to have a fairly consistent gameplan balls 1 to 5, then goes bananas on the 6th.
#IPL2024
Mark Waugh telling everyone he thinks wickets are too flat in the middle of the hardest batting era of the last 30 odd years. Top insight mate.
#INDvAUS
Getting run out, looking for a single in the ring especially, is the stupidest way to get out in T20 cricket by far.
You stand to gain virtually nothing, at the cost of everything.
Some thoughts on predicting success at Test level:
- Do First Class records matter?
- What other data can we use?
- How do scouts fit in?
Give it a read!
Reasons to pick Anderson and Broad:
- They are the best players
- Series player with Dukes ball
- Seam dominates in West Indies
- Provide stability whilst the batting gets revamped
Reasons not to pick Anderson and Broad:
- You are an idiot
Might have to squint for this one!
This is every England batter with 500+ runs, showing the difference between their Test batting average and their First Class batting average (with tests excluded).
As you'd expect, very few players perform better at a higher level.
Amazing World Cup so far. Really hope that we see some big casualties for the super 8.
Maybe a broadcaster or two will be sad, but we will never grow the game by having every nom "major nation" operate as cannon fodder in every comp. They have to build a legacy too.
Pointless incendiary stat of the day:
Jos Buttler - 7 IPL tons - 7 wins in those games
Virat Kohli - 8 IPL tons - 5 wins in those game

It isn't a crime against humanity. It is a dick move.
It is also objectively hilarious. Look at him, marching off like he's seen a Just Stop Oil protester in the distance.

It's a bit of a secret, but 50 over cricket is probably the highest quality format in terms of showcasing the all round skill of modern cricketers.
Shame it lasts 8 hours and 2/3 matches are dead boring though...
#INDvNZ
Arshdeep Singh has nailed two tremendous final overs, in back to back matches. One of the hardest skills in the sport. What will his tournament be remembered for though?
Dropping a catch and launching the ball into the outfield.

Pretty much the Daddy when it comes to online resources. With the right filters you can dig deep into match-ups, phases, formats and more. It also includes domestic T20 cricket.
RCB have just conceded the second most runs ever in a T20 innings.
Mongolia conceded 314 in their first ever cricket game v Nepal, a squad of professionals.
In a league built for parity that is astounding incompetence.

England lost an absolute boatload of T20s before the World Cup last year. Then, when it mattered, romped home as clearly the best team.
Who cares about bilateral series? They are friendlies.
The average winning first innings score in Mohali is 179. Even if today's wicket is a good one, 191 is still a really good score.
Is it too much to ask for the commentators to do the most basic research on this stuff?

In the IPL this year we have seen a 6 every 15 balls. Last season we saw one every 21 balls.
That is a mindblowing increase in frequency. Game has changed.
#IPL2023
Bavuma not being sold is a PR disaster, probably the story of the auction, and undermines what would have been a really positive story.
Dumb on that front and pretty dumb on a cricket front too.
I've written another data article on the impact of MS Dhoni's captaincy, over his fourteen years in the IPL!
Spoiler:
He's pretty good.
Check it out below...

RCB are the gift that keep on giving!
- Blitzed by Rahane
- Destroyed by Dube (again)
- Harshal melting down
- Captain goes off the field
- Maxwell bowling himself instead of the
#1
ranked bowler in the world
It's total mayhem, every time they play.
#IPL2023
The problem with Mumbai isn't that they haven't got good players, they have.
Their problem is that instead of recruiting one good 11, they've recruited 11 good ones.
Just seen a Tweet complaining about The Hundred advertising watches or some shit.
The England men's Test team exist exclusively to sell NUMAN boner pills these days. Chill out about some of this nonsense.
I am kind of obsessed by players who come from nowhere to land a hefty IPL contract. Abhinav Manohar did exactly that this year, so I wrote about it!
#IPLAuction
You can't really blame CSK for taking advantage of the rain nonsense, but if any franchise were gonna catch an absolutely epic break like this... it was gonna be them.
We spoke with CHETESHWAR PUJARA over at

this morning. A surreal experience.

A quick reminder that the IPL is BOX OFFICE. In that match we had:
😇 A god spell from Shami
🔥 Badoni on debut smoking 50
🥊 Hooda v Krunal sub-plot
😱 A Tewatia
🤦♂️ A vintage KL Captaincy choke
⚰️ Killer Miller
🐉 A team playing in frickin scales!

Today’s IPL opener, between KKR and CSK, is a really tough one to call. I’m going to go slightly against the grain here though, and say that I think the Knight Riders have the edge.
My reasoning:
Last season gaikwad hit only 14 sixes across his 14 innings. He is on 8 this year already.
That is serious intent, and could be an indicator he has taken a huge step forward as a player.

Not a popular view, but there's definitely an argument that India weren't a top T20 team at any of the last 3 World Cups.
They have the 4th best W/L record in that time, behind: Australia, New Zealand and England. Won 10, lost 6.
Are they repeating the same mistakes?
I don't think there's a single person who saw Shane Warne bowl that didn't at least have a go at giving it a rip. Just to see if they had it too.
A huge loss.
Virat Kohli playing making a genius solo century to keep RCB's hopes alive is almost the peak in terms IPL narrative arcs.
The only thing that could possibly top this is if RCB lose.
#IPL2023
For what's effectively the semi-final of a major tournament this pitch is a disgrace.
Why not just give Dhoni a bye to the final if it matters that much?
They could even cancel Sunday's match entirely, just get him to parade around with the trophy for a few hours.

The latest article from
@hganjoo153
is soooooo good!
By far the most interesting writer/thinker on data in T20. Strike Rate Above Ramping is my new favourite advanced metric.
So far today Sunrisers Hyderabad have:
- Bowled 22 wides
- Dropped 2 of the easiest catches in history
- Only took 3 wickets in their first 18 overs with the ball
- Scored 11 off their first 4 overs
And despite all of that, are going to walk this match.
Cricket is stupid.
The year is 2003, Where Is The Love? by The Black Eyed Peas rules the charts, Finding Nemo is smashing the box office...
And Virat Kohli has hit an incredible 45 ball 50 in cricket's newest, sexiest, format Twenty-Twenty!
Incredible hitting!!
#IPL2022
I am not saying Kohli batted badly, given the circumstances, but...
he carried his bat and his team have ended the innings less likely to win than when it started.
So we should be asking questions.
#IPL2024
#RCBvKKR
Travis Head opening here works for two reasons:
1. He is an extremely positive player, well capable of scoring quick decisive runs.
2. Unlike Warner he actually seems to be able to hit the ball.

With endorsements from people like Laura Huhtasaari I've no doubt that Britain has a great future ahead.
Who cares that she represents a racist, bigoted party, that she's a known plagiarist, or that she thinks evolution is a lie, she said some nice things about Britain. Hooray!
Auction so far:
- Brook for fat stacks is a major surprise
- SRH getting Agarwal too is HUGE for them
- Punjab bought the best player
- Holder to Rajasthan was the best deal
- The wrong teams spent too much on Stokes and Green
Will Jacks is great business for RCB.
He may not play a game but is a good back up for Maxwell, if he isn't fit, and could stand in for du Plessis, if his form is bad.
His bowling, whilst not frontline, is also a plus.
Updated IPL table of justice, using a pythagorean win predictor.
Every team still performing within about 0.5 wins of expectation, except the Gujarat Titans who have won a game more.
#IPL2024
England entirely reliant on a bloke who they weren't even gonna take to this tournament 3 weeks ago.
Pretty much sums up the world cup for them so far.
#CWC2023
I think we can all agree, that in this day and age, 160 is a really poor score batting first in a T20.
So... why do teams keep obviously targeting it as the score they want to post?
#IPL2022
Today's IPL match is incredibly difficult to call. I'm going to make a bold call and predict that Rajasthan Royals will regress, giving Royal Challengers Bangalore the win.
I also think the Royals' shallow batting order is a weakness RCB can expose.
#IPL2022

I walked out the room when Ashwin bowled Russell yesterday, then missed the highlights. Why are the only clips of that on Twitter videos of people filming their TV?
It's just about the most marketable moment the game could possibly produce! 🤦♂️
