🇵🇱🤙🇺🇦 Another week, another mysterious disappearance of T-72s from Polish army warehouses. This country is truly made of soaked cardboard, you can't even rely on military equipment being safe. How did they even let us in the EU? NATO? Ridiculous. ;)
Just received my first official Russian complaint about my tweets: "Mr Jaraczevski, you forget that in 1939 Russia saved Poles living in Western Ukraine from Nazi invasion" yeah mate that's not exactly how we remember the result of the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact.
I'm hearing that Czechs and Slovaks are experiencing similar issues with elementary storage security. But not Hungarians - they're keeping their stuff locked up and looked after very well, Orban is due for a medal.
To all the "aren't Poles afraid of this leading to a nuclear world war?" people or the slightly more intelligent, yet still clueless "isn't Poland afraid of hurting its relations with Russia?" folks, there's only one answer:
🇷🇺🇪🇺 Regarding the Schengen visa ban for Russians - yes, of course, anything that undermines the "you give us European lifestyle, and we ignore your atrocities" Russians-Putin social contract is good in my books.
Watching how Amnesty International went from "foreign agent pseudo-NGO funded by CIA" to "renowned organisation specialised in the investigation of Kiev regime crimes" over a few hours in the Russian-speaking Internet is woah.
🇺🇦 This blew up! Erm, support Ukraine any way you can and petition your government to backfill the armouries of CEE countries so they can keep misplacing and losing their gear without giving up on their own security. Thank you!

EU in 2015: Not sure if it can bail out one of its Member States.
EU in 2022: Supplying weapons to a third state that's engaged in a conventional war with a nuclear superpower.

🇵🇱🇭🇺🇨🇿🇸🇰 In case you've been wondering what is the political agenda of Visegrad 24, which many of you are unwittingly helping, spot the one Visegrad Group country not mentioned in this swipe at long-standing V4 member *checks notes* Germany.
As much as I am not a fan of most things the Polish government is doing, its restraint, given the natural Polish instinct to saddle the horse and draw the sabre whenever Russia is involved, is a good indication that many of you need to calm down a bit.
🇺🇦🇭🇺🇹🇷🇷🇺 In case you were wondering what Orban's cowardice means in practice, this An-124 Ruslan which almost certainly is carrying Bayraktar TB2 drones and ordnance for Ukraine has to fly around Great Hungary in order to deliver its cargo to Rzeszów.
In other news, my wife is now handling a 90yr old patient who has high blood pressure and stress attack because scenes from Ukraine remind her of WW2 and her time in a concentration camp. How are your Italian handbags doing?
🇵🇱🇷🇺 The Russian embassy has informed the Polish authorities that they intend to hold a ceremony in memory of fallen Red Army soldiers in Warsaw on May 9th. What could go wrong?
🇷🇺 Russia's membership in the Council of Europe has been suspended by the CoE Committee of Ministers with 42 out of 47 countries in favour of a joint Polish-Ukrainian notion to suspend Russia over attack on Ukraine. ht

Absolutely massive protests in Warsaw in response to the death of a pregnant woman caused by Poland's restrictive abortion laws, made even more egregious earlier this year following a judgement from the Constitutional Tribunal.

🇺🇦⚖️⚔️ Sometimes you have to defend the rule of law very literally - Ukrainian Supreme Court judge Ivan Mishchenko has joined the territorial defense force in Kiyv.
Sędzia Sądu Najwyższego Ukrainy Iwan Miszczenko wywiózł rodzinę z Kijowa, wrócił i dołączył do jednej ze kijowskich grup bojowych, żeby bronić kraju. Patriotyzm elit.
🇷🇺⚖️It appears that Russia is renouncing its membership in the Council of Europe rather than facing a humiliating (and likely landslide) vote on expulsion. If this is indeed an actual departure and not some "we're staying but we're not staying" move, three massive consequences:
Friendly reminder to everyone that

Poles: PKP trains are the worst, seriously, it's ridiculous, why can't we have it like in civilised countries such as UK or US?
British journalist on a PKP train:
Skrajna prawica i lewica w Polsce oskarżają Izrael o umyślne morderstwo we wczorajszym ataku, w skutek którego śmierć ponieśli członkowie organizacji humanitarnej, w tym obywatel Polski. Wicemarszałek Sejmu i lider Konfederacji Krzysztof Bosak twierdzi, że Izrael popełnia
BTW, the tank debate reminds me of...

Czech/Slovak: tank
Russian/Ukrainian/Bulgarian: танк
Macedonian: тенк

Czech/Slovak: Oh no, they're doing the 'herbata' thing again, rebellious little...
Polish: CZOŁG
If anybody is having dreams about this ending with a democratic process of any sort and Russian people rising up to protest the dictator out, I'm afraid the absolutely least destructive solution that's remotely possible is this:
Oh, and for the record, Hungary not only did not donate any heavy weapons, but it has also not donated any light stuff, unlike Germany. But that wouldn't fit V24's narrative, and the narrative cannot fail, it can only be failed.
Brexiteers sharing my thread about CJEU ruling C-791/19, following me, then liking every tweet in that thread up until the very end where they discover that I'm on the side of the Evil Brussels Empire and then unfollowing me - explains a lot about why Brexit happened.
🇷🇺 Putin killing Navalny so openly just ahead of the election makes me think he's confident that US will bolt out of Europe, and he can throw caution in the wind. For us in EU, it's si vis pacem, para bellum.
🇷🇺🇺🇦 Just one more thing re: Russia. A lot of people talk about the Russian opposition in the context of visa ban. That's important, but the ugly truth is that there are people in Russia who vehemently oppose Putin and at the same time want Ukraine to fall.
Kamil has a great thread here - Russians did a deal with Putin similar to one that Hungarians did with Orban, give us affordable SUVs, big European brands in the shopping mall and cheap vacay in exotic places and we let you do whatever you want.
European policies, including the visa policies have a great impact on the Russian discourse and internal politics. The better life in Russia will be, the more business as usual continues, the more Russian population will believe that everything's fine. Just chill down
Except for Russians, the ability to go to Paris or Berlin and be part of the great world like in the XIX century is a very important part of the deal. Take that away, and they'll start asking questions. Slowly at first, but every change is a process.
The same people who spent the last few decades going on about how NATO is a corrupt, failed post-colonial relict of past times that has no place in a multipolar world are now freaking out about it financing a bunch of shiba inu shitposters dismantling the sovereignty of Russia.
The amount of "wow, so many Asians in the Russian army, are they from China?" comments in threads on Russian losses in Ukraine tells a lot about how little idea people have on what is the actual ethnic-geographic composition of the Russian Federation.
From the comfort of his Moscow dacha, watching as police drag another Asian/Muslim guy to his mogilisation, freedom fighter and human rights champion Edward Snowden offers a window of insight on totalitarianism, morality, lawfulness, and power.
In the United States, of course.
To sum it up, yes, the Schengen visa ban has to happen and needs to be as loophole-proof as possible. Put some CEE folks on it and ask them to test the system by finding a way to avoid the ban. Don't test it on deployment ;-) /END
🇵🇱🤝🇺🇦 Wow, this blew up, erm, um, I guess, please support Ukrainian refugees in your country (or in one of the countries that host them) and the Ukrainian effort to keep those revisionist orcs away.
Yep. As 100s of thousands of African/Asian food crisis refugees will beeline for Europe, Putin will charitably offer to unlock the food in exchange for lifting sanctions and instructing Ukraine to yield.
🇵🇱🇷🇺 Three weeks of "Jakub, how is it possible that Poles despise Russia so intensively, you're both Slavic people after all", I'm one step closer to the edge, I'm about to break
Being there, shopping at Ku'damm or standing among ruins in Athens, validates their desire to be perceived as European. It's far stronger than with Czechs or Poles, who feel European without needing to reinforce that by eating lasagne in Rome.
Yes, there will be some poor PhD candidate that will get stuck not being able to return to Sciences Po for the next semester because their academic exemption wasn't recognised, but that's a price I am willing to pay.
Friendly reminder to everyone that German politicians are elected by a strongly pacifist society which keeps worrying that sending weapons to a war is the start of militarisation -> nationalism -> NSDAP pipeline. Also, Berlin isn't Germany.
Why I don't support an exemption for students/academia? Because that will inevitably lead to fake universities enrolling fake students and the Westerners in charge of verifying it not being paranoid enough/not used to deal with C/EE ability to cheat any system they're faced with.
🇭🇺Hungary - the government going up in polls by distancing itself from the war.
🇵🇱Poland - the government going up in polls by intervening in the war in every way short of direct military action.
But yeah, CEE is an amorphous mass of identical post-Soviet countries ;-)
🇺🇦🇺🇸 A Ukrainian teen with Down's Syndrome agreed to evacuate from Mariupol only after his family convinced him that he'll meet John Cena. It was a bluff to get him to safety, but
@JohnCena
called that bluff and came to meet his fan.

To motivate Misha on their journey to safety, his mother told him they were on their way to find Cena.

Tim's research skills are, sadly, not there. Everyone knows that the budget line for fellas comes from the Culinary Institute of America, an organisation with a long career in making the American way of life known across the world, headquartered in a small shack in Langley, VA.
You've spent the last 10 years burying White Helmets and boosting every Hezbollah beat with total impunity, but then you try to repeat the playbook with Ukraine, and suddenly an army of shiba inus descends upon you, asking "why have you pronounced this nonsense?". Poetic justice.
Regular friendly reminder that you all blue ticks are joyfully retweeting an account that doesn't tell you who owns it and who is legally responsible but asks you for donations.
The second best term after "westsplaining" is "cope cages" - metal enclosures with pillows and random junk on the top installed by Russians on the roofs of their tanks in (vain) hopes of stopping Javelins/NLAWs. They don't work, but hopefully, they offer some emotional support.
Watching Denis Pushilin, the head of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic proxy puppet entity explain that the situation in Sviatohirsk is "difficult because thousands of Polish mercenaries are active there" is a weirdly cathartic feeling. We live in their heads, rent free.
I know that the climate crisis will kill us all, but let's appreciate the moment when it decided to screw Putin over with 20 C on the forecast for early November in France and Germany.

Followed by Michael Tracey tweeting "this. this right here is the proof that NAFO fellas are CIA assassins recruited during Operation Bonk. I was right all along."
🇵🇱⚖️Polish Constitutional Tribunal proclaims its judgment in the case K 6/21, finding Art 6 (1) of European Convention on Human Rights incompatible with Polish Constitution regarding the right to fair trail in proceedings before the very same Constitutional Tribunal. (1/n)
EPILOGUE: The best argument for this ban is that after 6 months of voracious shitposting in support of Ukraine, this is the first thread to get me DMs from Russians going along the way of "fuck you, Lach, your Warsaw is shithole compared to Moscow"
C/EE folks have spent decades perfecting the art of cheating the communist system while people in the West spent that time mostly trusting the system and the system trusting them. This is why eg. Germany can't handle stuff like Poles with their fake Anmeldungs at 50 EUR/Monat.
If Poland comes under deliberate Russian attack, you'll know it very quickly because your feed will be flooded with images of winged hussars, Józef Piłsudski, Katyń, September 1939 (or 1610), July 1920 and all the classic melodrama we conjure when faced with existential threats.

helping fix the PR of Germany using a bucket of coffee, a laptop, a bottle of rum and some stroopwafels is an amazing story, doubly so with the irony of 🇳🇱 helping 🇩🇪 bail out of a marketing disaster.
Finally, Oryx takes a comprehensive look at Polish military aid to Ukraine, an unprecedented display of solidarity (and of outsourcing your defense abroad).
I am not a political scientist and should really not be going too much into this, but it seems like not repeating the Hungarian mistake and running as three blocs with distinct platforms was one of key factors behind opposition performance.
This is no small part because while CEE all got into the Council of Europe, most got into EU (or will at some point) and NATO, Russia stayed outside most of those European frameworks and now got kicked out of the few it managed to get into (CoE, Council of Baltic Sea States).
Here comes the verdict: the Polish Constitutional Tribunal finds art. 1 TEU and art. 19 TEU incompatible with the Polish Constitution with regards to Polish courts giving primacy to EU law and being able to disregard Polish Constitution and laws. (52/wtm)
Pro social media tip: if you're an account with 240k followers, coming down on a guy with 6k followers and rallying your fanbase to troll him is boosting his ranges, not yours.
Finally, for the obligatory "lol Ukrs killed 100k Poles in Volhynia but you support them ahahaha u dumb" vatnik - dude, we got over what Germans did to us in WW2, getting over what Ukrainian nationalists did is small potatoes in comparison. Cope with that.
🇮🇱 🇵🇱🇭🇺⚖️Israel, Hungary, Poland, rule of law protests – a thread. Even as I type this, Israeli society is out there in full force protesting against a ‘reform’ of the judiciary pushed through by PM Netanyahu and the ruling coalition. 1/
If Putin will introduce mobilisation and forced draft, he'll discover just how big is the gap between an average Russian's willingness to plaster "Z for Zictory" on their German car and their readiness to die slowly and really ugly in a wet cold trench near Kherson.
🇭🇺🇺🇸 After reading all the mean tweets about his views on Ukraine, Mearsheimer decided to seek comfort and solace with the one European leader who fully supports his view on the fate of small countries squashed between Great Empires.
26 former judges of Polish Constitutional Tribunal have issued a joint statement concerning the K 3/21 judgment. Among others, they state that the judgment does not fit into competencies of the Tribunal and is by itself incompatible with the Constitution.
Schröder's "Putin had no idea of atrocities, it must have been people lower in the chain of command" has the same energy as "Hitler has no idea about the camps, it's all Himmler and co"
The logic of "Ukraine should just roll over and surrender because that's how it goes, but Gaza should fight the eternal struggle against the imperialist invader to the last dead Palestinian child" just doesn't check out.
Now my notifications are full of shiba inu dogs. They seem suspiciously well organised and coordinated. This cannot be an accident, there must some professional intelligence agency behind this.
The reason Western militaries are so weak compared to the almighty army of the Soviet Empire is that they waste time teaching soldiers pronouns, genders, the concept of not abandoning your own comrades and driving tanks without crashing into trees.
2016: Sophisticated Russian disinfo and psyop campaigns run by highly qualified specialists working in St Pete troll farms are influencing major political events worldwide. Democracies are defenceless.
2022: Finally, they've met their match.
