I’m proud to share my new blog: Sankofahoma.
At an early age, I fell in love with history. Sankofahoma is dedicated all Black people who has ever called Oklahoma home.
Special thanks to
@thinking4achang
for always inspiring me to be my best self. 🖤
Idk who needs to hear this, but Christianity isn’t the solution to racism. My humanity shouldn’t be predicated on your religious faith and its variations.
There’s something quite uncomfortable this week as Julius Jones waits to see if he’ll be executed, a white nationalist receiving sympathy from the judge in his murder trial in WI, and the Arbery family in GA criticized for the clergy support they receive while seeking justice.
Oklahoma’s Superintendent of Public Education Ryan Walters says there should not be a separation of church and state and wants Christianity to be a central part of public education.
"We will bring God back to schools and prayer back to schools in Oklahoma," Walters said.
OU really wasted $250K to find Gallogly, only for him to retire less than a year later.
Do you know how many scholarships that could have/should have funded?
Oklahoma just solidified its FIRST BLACK WOMAN candidate for Lt. Gov. with former state senator Anastasia Pittman! The Democratic nominee will be on November’s ballot. 👏🏾🎊✊🏾
“The Black community” is not a political prop. We are not a policy point. We are individual, diverse human beings; flesh and blood, deserving of life, liberty and happiness (not just the pursuit).
Let’s remember that dehumanization is key to incite violence towards targeted groups. This has always been true in global history. This type of rhetoric will lead to more violence against 2SLGBTQ+ people. What ever happened to “Love one another as I have loved you”?
The children are watching and witnessing how we respond. Anything less than full support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth is failure to recognize the value of their life and growing crisis driven by the hysteria and hate from political pundits and extremists, including
@RyanWaltersSupt
.
Difficult to express my thoughts on Gov. Stitt’s cowardly, hate-driven decision today. This indefensible, poor executive order wastes necessary taxpayer dollars and time on his political agenda to permit discrimination under the guise of “anti-discrimination.”
Stitt is completely out of touch. As a now-former board member of the Regional Food Bank, we saw a significant need increase this summer. This put more strain on the Food Bank, its need to fundraise and the community partners that the Bank serves. Summer EBT is good for everyone.
The governor’s office tells me Oklahoma will not be participating in the Summer EBT feeding program for another year in 2025. Last year Governor Stitt rejected those funds for this year.
@koconews
Black Americans are tired, yet we’re determined. Step aside and let progressive Black people lead. We’ve proven time and time again (Ella Baker, MLK, Marsha P. Johnson, Clara Luper, etc.), we are America’s conscience.
OG&E is asking the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to approve a rate hike for its more than 800,000 customers. If approved, the average residential customer will see a monthly increase of $19.02.
We, as Oklahomans, cannot and should not settle for the mediocrity and incompetence of state leaders that wish to dismantle, dissolve and destroy institutions we hold dear, especially tribal sovereignty and public education.
Any protesters, anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes who are going to Oklahoma please understand, you will not be treated like you have been in New York, Seattle, or Minneapolis. It will be a much different scene!
Has anyone else noticed the positive messages on the digital billboards along I-35 lately? It makes my day.
Today’s message: “What if the hard days have a purpose too?”
The Oakland A’s & Seattle SuperSonics learned the hard way. OKC, we learned the hard way in the 80s and early 90s on the costs of not investing in ourselves. Our city deserves state-of-the-art entertainment with a 25-year guarantee of NBA. Vote Yes because we deserve it!
A new jail will not fix decades of poor management. While the building is completely inhumane, operationally, Oklahoma County government hasn’t shown its ability to stop its own dysfunction. I’m voting NO on the Oklahoma Jail and I’ll share why👇🏾🧵
Just finished my first half marathon in the
@OKCMarathon
. I ran in honor of the victims, their families, survivors and first responders like my dad and other firefighters.
I ran primarily in NE OKC reflecting on my own heritage and the strength of our community.
#RUNtoREMEMBER
When people say
#BlackLivesMatter
they’re saying Black lives have value and purpose. When a person, especially political candidates, refuses to say this statement, they’re stating that Black lives don’t have value or any purpose. They’re saying Black people are disposable.
Despite what you may choose to believe, our world isn’t binary. We have constructed binaries instead of reality’s nuance.
No, there isn’t only male and female, there isn’t only Black and white.
When we depart the binary, we’re making room for the wholeness of people and life.
3.5 years ago, Mayor
@davidfholt
welcomed me onto the team at City Hall. Since then, we were able to accomplish many great things. It’s been honor to serve with him.
Now that he’s re-elected, I have made a decision to follow a new opportunity. Monday, I’ll share my next step.
Tomorrow, remember to vote YES on SQ 820. It’s time we stop wasting public resources on criminalizing people over a substance less dangerous & lethal than alcohol. This is a criminal justice, workforce and quality of life issue.
I don’t feel like celebrating ‘freedom’ when there are children inhumanely locked in cages by our government. I refuse to turn a blind eye for the sake of ‘patriotism.’
When I graduated, I prayed for an opportunity where I could work and learn under a great leader. Needless to say, prayers were answered when I got the offer to work with
@davidfholt
(🐐) and serve
@cityofokc
. This is truly a great adventure!

He’s been hanging around here for a few weeks, but let’s call this my official announcement that J.D. Baker has joined our team as Special Assistant to the Mayor!
@JD__Baker
is a recent OU grad & student body president, the son & brother of OKC firefighters, & he knows everyone.
I met her as a campaign manager, I’ve supported her as an incredible congresswoman and I’m rooting for her as Oklahoma’s next U.S. Senator! Happy Birthday
@VoteKendraOK
! 🎉 🥳
OU Students: please stay alert and engaged. It would be a major setback if SAE is allowed to return or if any diversity & inclusion efforts are minimized. Hold the university accountable. This is YOUR university, make your demands and expectations known.
#LiveOnUniversity
Don’t let Walter’s antics distract you from Gov. Stitt stripping parental rights over students wearing Tribal regalia for graduation and banning gender affirming care for youth.
This is a game to them and the people of Oklahoma suffering further because of it.
I’m sad to see this as a priority for our state’s leading political party.
How can we serve all Oklahomans when we dehumanize and demonize specific groups of people?
Don’t just aimlessly quote Dr. King today. Pick up one of his books or a book about racism, its legacy and the pathway to justice in order grasp that the movement was larger than him or any one person. Here are some of my own recommendations on
#MLKDay
Hear me out: every bill & policy that negatively targets LGBTQ2S+ people fueled the hatred that caused the shooting. The right-wing leaders including
@sec_walters
have to share the blame for this bloodshed.
We can’t talk about the Oklahoma Standard when we have hateful leaders.
I love my mother’s persistence about voting. This is a woman who was born when her own mother, grandmothers and aunts were not extended the right to vote because they were Black women. Today, I was able to help her secure her absentee ballot for November. 🗳 💪🏾
We must re-envision what *justice* looks like in Oklahoma. While I and many felt 805 was a step in that direction, majority of voters did not (primarily due to fear/misinformation).
True justice makes our communities whole, providing redemption, dignity, prosperity, and safety.
Radical left wing decisions made by the 1960s (Earl Warren) Supreme Court?
I’ve been trying to choose carefully about my political voice on here, but this man seriously concerns me and the revisionist, radical ideas he has for Oklahoma kids and educators.
That's my Leader
@KayFloydOK
and Leader-elect
@JuliaKirt
trying to pull a seat up to the table for budget negotiations. We are committed to finding bi-partisan solutions that serve all Oklahomans.
Today was a good day. 👨🏾🎓Thank you to
@President_Boren
, all of my professors, mentors, friends and family for guiding me along this journey.
#OUGrad18
ICYMI,
@GovStitt
, check out this article from The Oklahoman: Oklahoma ranked in top 10 worst states to live in by new study, including “43rd in percentage of population in poverty.” Just FYI.
To my peers under 35 y/o: Let’s rethink our daily activities. Majority of the new

cases in OKC are adults in our age range.
Let’s be smart and safe for our community. Continue to work from if you’re afforded that privilege. Practice good hygiene. WEAR YOUR MASKS.
Oklahoma is only special because of the people we have. Each day I cross paths with deeply passionate folks and I’m like “I’m glad you’re a part of OUR community.”
When we seek and appreciate the value in others, then we have accepted our own value. Happy Statehood Day OK! 🤠
🎉 Today, we got to celebrate a new step for a man I greatly admire and a community I hold dear to my heart. Congrats to Edmond Mayor Darrell Davis on his swearing-in ceremony!
Racism is pervasive in the U.S. It’s everywhere.
OU isn’t more racist than other schools. However, its students’ consistent activism to always stand up against a school that hasn’t learned is unique. I support that they, especially black students, have always demanded better.
America needs a wake up call. We have “leaders” including
@VP
calling for college football when there are families and individuals on the verge of homelessness with and without jobs. Kids infected with COVID-19, yet your priority is college football. Can’t wait to vote you out.
A higher % of Black people have served as POTUS than as an U.S. Senator. Out of 1,037 Senators in history, only 10 have been Black (3 currently).
When folks say that we *aren’t* a racist country, look no further than the election rejection of qualified candidates of color.
I’ve been riding with
@ewarren
since she announced. Thank you for how you’ve helped the everyday person in America and challenged the status quo. The fight must continue. See you in the Senate!
Time for Dems to unite.
About two weeks ago, I joined Mayor
@davidfholt
outside of the county jail and heard from activists in our city. I joined the rally at City Hall today.
I’ve been sick, tired and heartbroken for weeks. The pain expressed is incredibly deep. Pain built over generations. /1
I can say this about
@joy4ok
,
@Jena4OK
,
@VoteKendraOK
, and
@vickiforDA
:
I’m proud to cast a vote for each of them because I know them to be leaders of integrity, kindness and an openness to listen and learn FROM those they serve.
This election is too important to sit out. 🗳
Last week, Oklahoma’s congressional representatives voted against codifying interracial & gay marriage, calling it a diversion from “very real issues affecting everyday Oklahomans.”
@RepBice
, I’ve been an Oklahoman everyday of my life and it is real to me.
This is not a happy Pride. Not today. Let’s remember that Pride historically exists in protest of police brutality on queer folks and we should recognize the queer POC who have consistently been leading the fight for LGBTQ+ rights 🏳️🌈
If you can, take your children with you to the voting polls. One of the greatest lessons I learned about civics was getting to watch my parents vote. 🗳
#SuperTuesday
Proud of my congresswoman for leaving behind the divisiveness of petty, partisan politics and embracing consensus and unity for our nation. Can’t wait for her to win another term representing CD5.
Honored to receive the
@USChamber
Spirit of Enterprise Award! We don't have to choose between policies that are good for our pocketbooks and good for people. Also proud to receive the 2nd highest annual score among Dems nationally and the highest bipartisanship score in Oklahoma.
It looks like Councilman Darrell Davis will be Edmond's next Mayor! His daughter,
@DebreonDavis
, is a star - one of the most talented education/administrators around! Big congrats to this wonderful family!
