NEW: ERCOT paid a Colorado Bitcoin mining company $13.3 million from June to September to cut back on its energy usage.
The company doubled its revenue from reducing operations instead of mining Bitcoin.
Been waiting on this day for a while.
I'm excited to announce that I'm joining the Sports Business Journal as their general assignment reporter starting Sept. 9!
Welcoming any pitches. For now, please send stuff to my personal email at ismejia48

Let's go to work.
My intern days are over! Today is officially my first day as the
@dallasnews
breaking news business reporter!
I'll still be covering topics like auto, sports, tech, and other interesting stuff in business.
Looking forward to continuing my journey as a Texan with you folks :)
(1) All good things must come to an end.
I will be leaving The Dallas Morning News at the end of August. I'll have more to say on where I'm headed next at a later time.
In the meantime, I want to thank everyone who's helped me get here. I love you all and I'll miss each of you.
@BoonDocksClips
Walking tf away. Messing with Stinkmeaner is like calling 1-800-Collect-An-Ass-Whooping, and no, that ain't no toll free call, partner.
GUYS WE DID IT!! Thank you to all of you for donating and for your continued support, it means the world to our family and you guys have no idea how elated I am at the moment. Wow, just thank you guys, I'm speechless
Excited to share my first story for

! The Monarch population has taken a significant dip due to climate change and agricultural approaches.
But Michigan can play an important role in stabilizing the population before it's too late.
There's so much I want to say, but 240 characters isn't enough.
@MariaHalkias
is one of the most inspiring reporters and people I've ever met.
It's the end of an era at the DMN. I'll always cherish our conversations across our desks. We love you so much.
Vice President Mark Cuban?
Though the White House seemed like a far-fetched dream for the Dallas billionaire a few months ago, times have changed. Betting odds place him at 50/1 to become Kamala Harris' VP choice.
BREAKING: Texas wants to have its own national stock exchange by 2026.
It will be headquartered in Dallas and expects to have 100 employees when it's fully operational. If all goes according to plan, the impact it could have on our region is massive.
@confessions_WSU
it ain't that it's a norm you fucking dork. call me crazy but we should apply empathy to people who may be affected. idc whether you are or aren't personally affected, there's no reason people in class w/you should have to take notes while griefing with their friends miles away
Very proud to present my final story for
@BridgeMichigan
!
Highland Park has long been plagued by frequent power outages. With the help of Soulardarity, a non-profit organization, the city could control its own destiny through an independent power grid.
I went on TV for the first time today to speak with NBC 5 about a story I recently wrote about Rogers O'Brien Construction and some new technology they're using to keep workers safe in the brutal heat.
Check out my interview with them here!
An exclusive story and my latest from

if i had a nickel for every time one of my scoops was upstaged by a pro athlete with an association to dallas being arrested... I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
SCOOP: I sat down with Dr. Phil to discuss how and why he's launching his new venture, Merit Street Media, in North Texas.
He told me that it's not just about money. He wants to help fight for the future of American culture.
Reunited our interns with everyone's favorite retail reporter and our former retail queen,
@MariaHalkias
Big thanks to
@umaxbhat
for setting up this shindig
If you're somehow not yet convinced that the Caitlin Clark effect is real, it's time for you to look at the numbers.
Look no further than her signature basketball, which cleared out Wilson's stock of tens of thousands in less than 40 minutes.
All eyes turn to the Dallas Stars after the launch of their free, direct-to-consumer streaming service, Victory+.
According to my conversations with APMC and the Stars, NBA and MLB teams have reached out asking about the platform's capabilities.
I spent the first six years of my life in Querétaro, Mexico. I didn't know it then, but the city's wine market is on the brink of colossal growth.
The region's wine, made from grapes grown in peculiar conditions, is starting to break into Texas markets.
Today I obtained a letter sent internally to employees at Merit Street Media, the network partly operated and funded by Dr. Phil.
The network is laying off 38 employees with the cuts impacting its news team.

I was one of the only reporters over the weekend that got to see Cosm's massive 87-foot dome in action.
I spoke with Cosm's leaders and the architect behind the project.
The goal is simple: To bring patrons into a new era of experiential entertainment.
To close out the week, here's my latest and one of my favorite stories I've written since arriving in Dallas.
An auto strike seems almost inevitable between the UAW and the Big Three. So where does that leave Texas?
I interviewed Dirk Nowitzki during Wednesday's Venture Dallas conference.
Without basketball, he wants a new challenge in his life. He says Dallas' thriving business ecosystem has brought him back to where his NBA journey started over 20 years ago.
This is my view tonight live from Grandscape where Cosm is unveiling its immersive dome venue.
Story coming soon.
Also sorry to remind Dallas fans about this series.
NEW: A story where technically I'm a part of the stats.
Young people are moving from states like Michigan and ending up in Texas more than anywhere else.
But why? For the same reason I'm in Texas: It all comes down to jobs and economic opportunities.
(7) And a big thank you to The Dallas Morning News in general. This place was my first home as a journalist and I'll never forget the memories we made together.
There's a part of me that hopes this isn't goodbye forever, just goodbye for now.
Truth and righteousness forever.

Sorry for the dry byline the past week y'all. I was busy becoming the DMN's self-proclaimed pickleball expert.
So what's the big dill about pickleball? Old money and big sponsors are driving growth not just in Texas, but across the country.
So college has kept me busy and I've been gone a lot lately but I just went to check the GoFundMe and wow, you guys are amazing. I'll be giving another update on the actual page but for now, I just want to extend my gratitude to all of you who have helped

There's been a lot of recent talk about efforts to popularize soccer throughout North Texas.
But it's not because of a love for the culture. The area just has all ingredients it needs to become a soccer juggernaut.
