@MichaelSteele Seriously. If the GOP can’t take credit for winning the Civil War and ending slavery it has no business going on about limited government and economic freedom. There’s no more tyrannical, unlimited government, or economic oppression than owning people and their children forever.

@IChotiner @ChrisVanHollen "One of the things we witnessed personally was a large warehouse filled with humanitarian goods that had been rejected at Israeli inspection points." What's happening with the items in the warehouse? This needs to investigated and determined immediately.

@JennMcClellanVA @VASenate Standard time year around would be better. And we could lobby the other states to adopt it for consistency and the health of their populations. There’s nothing wrong with Virginia being first, someone has to get the ball moving.

@TorraineWalker Actually fascinating how a Franco-American Friendship & Anti-slavery monument, conceived by the president of the French Emancipation Committee, got turned into a symbol of European immigration in the culture.

Lecturing on Georgian 🇬🇧, Bloody Code, Poor Laws, Gin Act & Hannah More today in my Poverty & Culture class I should probably say thanks to @KSPrior for shining a spotlight on a pivotal figure who in many ways was forgotten in the 20th century. Props👏🏿

@jeffreyhwalton Leaving his empty chair on stage seems like an own goal. It looks petty even if it was not intended to be so. They appear to have rushed their response to his talk. Letting him appear on stage and having the other panelists challenge and disagree - if they did - would be better.

@lambeth981 Either invite or don't invite. But disallowing an already presented speaker from a panel because his views are contentious misses a critical point: robust debate thrives when we confront challenging ideas. If his arguments are flawed, let them be exposed and refuted in the open.

FDR said “necessitous men are not free men.” Claiming that distribution equates to fascism or communism is a misconception. Unlike these ideologies, distribution works within democratic frameworks. 🗳️ Citizens are more independent politically when not economically dependent.

#Distributism is often misunderstood. It’s not about taking everything and redistributing it. It’s about fairness and opportunity for all. 🤝 #FairEconomy it means more owners and makers, not fewer, and definitely not centralized.

@markdtooley Also, slaveholding American loyalists, the US version of Émigrés, fled to Canada, took their African slaves with them, and were welcomed by the Red Coats. New France, had African and Indigenous slaves. The common claim Canada did not have slavery is false.

@keegreil It is interesting you make that point. A big part of it is that distriibutism accepts that centralization is bad, and its goal is to keep the system as decentralized as practicable. Which sounds like your ideas about the block chain.

Fascism centralizes power under a dictatorial regime, controlling economy and society. Distributism, however, aims for equitable resource sharing within a democratic system. 🛡️ #AntiFascism Work should pay, providing the liberty to fulfill our social obligations.

@markdtooley Great time for a revival. The alternative is plowing the depths of despair and emptiness. In times like this, faced with the mirror of their own actions, men and women repent and turn from their infractions.

@mrdavidrowe @Tim77Roberts @TolkienProverbs Your post was clear. The Free Peoples of Middle Earth are xenophobic, and Sauron profits from their mistrust and mutual stereotypes. The LOTR narrative reveals their xenophobia as misguided to the reader and the characters. It is a good read of Tolkien.

@SohrabAhmari I make my students read Lincoln’s take on this every semester. Always catches them by surprise. “Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed.”

@linakhanFTC @FTC What will this do for professional wrestlers who are contractors, and often have 90 day noncompete clauses in their contracts? Normally the noncompetes are enforced even if professional wrestlers have their contracts terminated early.

So it is interesting that there is so much focus on Texas and little on Mexico. It would be like if migrants died crossing Niagra from New York to Ontario and if Ontario shipped migrants from the border all the way to Newfoundland and Labrador, but no attention was paid to USA.
