Diet, Exercise & young age will NOT save you from #LongCovid . I am 24 years old. I have been ill with long covid since i was 21. I ate nutritiously. I lifted. Worked. I did gymnastics, swimming, track & field. Now, I would be on the street starved to death if not for my family.

90% had it and the world wasnt ending. We also thought MS was psychosomatic until we saw the lesions. Turns out EBV wasn't mild, and it caused neurodegeneration in a minority(which translated in millions of people because 90% of us have it). While covid isn't EBV it is a virus/.

Almost 3 years ago at 21 years old someone sick with Covid-19 infected me. I was outdoors but went to a bathroom which was indoors. I was told by health officials I didn't need to wear a mask and that since I was young I'd be ok if infected. Now my life is ruined. #LongCovid

Correct me if I'm wrong. It took 6 years since HIV surfaced in 1980-81 for the first drug to emerge. 10-15 years overall for good treatments. That was 30 years ago. 3.5 years of long covid and we have zero treatments and diagnostics. Yet we possess superior technology/knowledge.

Haven't drank a drop of alcohol in over 3 years. Never was a heavy drinker. Exercised all my life. Even now I try to incorporate some sort of movement in a day. I eat very little to no processed food. I sleep 8 hours. I sit in sunlight as recommended. Yet I've never been sicker.

I'm not going to bounce back from this. Not this crash, and not long covid. The longer this goes on the less likely I propably am to even respond to treatment if there ever is one. Most neurological diseases aren't treatable. I feel like I'm kidding only myself. #LongCovid

Now imagine doing a clinical trial for exercise for epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, kidney faillure, heart faillure, HIV, Hepatitis, Cancer, chronic infection, spinal fractures etc. All the while having no knowledge of what exactly those diseases are.

Anecdote: While ill with long covid I was phoned by the prof. overseeing my thesis before. I had participated in a study of his lab measuring among others max isokinetic lower body strength. While examining the strength data he told me there was one outlier. It was me.

Normally I wouldn't adress this. You can't argue intelligently with abusive trolls. But in my mind it is in line with how society, really has no grasp of what severe ME is, which many with Long Covid have. Antisocial twitter hooligans are on the extreme end of this theme. /2

A friend that checks in regularly said this to me after I told him I can't watch movies anymore and struggle to read: "It sucks how you've lost even the simplest of joys". Damn, I thought. He is right. Talking or standing for as long as I want is like a wild fantasy. #LongCovid

So from now on we can be transparent. I am gonna share my #LongCovid story to warn people and hopefully get my health back one day by raising awareness, and I ask you to ignore me or admit you have no humanity. But please, have some guts and don't spin it around any other way.

I know you don't like me. I can't like you either. You try and justify the death and ignore the disability of your fellow humans and show no empathy, no heart. I am one of many whose lives were ruined by the virus you minimize & I'm not going anywhere.

Trigger: months into a crash that I thought would subside, and after 3 years of already severe long covid, suicidal thoughts visit me. I don't want to die. But being in a dark room for years, frequently unable to speak or move, I'm not surprised those thoughts emerged.

I'm not implying all those things don't have a significant effect on health. Nor that people shouldn't follow them. But I'm living proof that they can only reduce your risk of a chronic disease. Not eliminate it. And definitely not cure it.

"Long Covid is malingering", said the guy/gal working a 9 to 5, exercising none-2 times a week, to the captain of a high level team in a contact sport, losing literal millions by not playing, because he has Long Covid.

I'm sharing this because I see a lot of victim blaming going around and framing Long Covid as a disease affecting the frail, unhealthy and old. Even if that is the case for some, they were all still functioning a lot better than now and didn't deserve to get ill anymore than me.

I've witnessed 80 year Olds with more functional capacity than me. I'm 24. And like a very old and sick person I often feel like I'm just waiting for my life to pass. But it's so soon. I don't wanna go yet. I haven't even started my life. Why can't I get to live like my peers?

A sense of loss overtook me as I woke up on my 24th birthday. It has replaced the warmth, connection, and happiness that used to surface in me. What's missing? My health? social life? My dreams? dignity? My youth? My self? Can't pin it down. Because #longcovid took everything.

Before insulin was discovered, diabetic people including children were put into clinics. The treatment included, starvation, coffee, and alcohol. This is the level of care available today for #longcovid about 100 years later.
