“I commute two hours per day, just to sit on Teams meetings all day.”
Hearing this a lot right now. There’s no way to bring 2019 back, how we work has been transformed.
So there’s got to be a planned purpose for in-person work. Not just because it’s a Thursday.
Reading that David Beckham recently travelled to Sweden to spend time with a dying Sven Goran Eriksson…
He brought him six bottles of wine to drink together, each from a year that meant something special to Sven. What a guy.
It’s too early in the week for a cry 💔
This has honestly been one of the best weeks of my life. THERE ARE FOX CUBS LIVING IN MY GARDEN 😭
This is an
#InnovationCubs
account for at least the next few days. Sorry, but not really sorry. Look at them! 🦊🦊🦊
In what feels like the first bit of actual good news in the UK for ages…
They’re adding British Sign Language as a GCSE language option from 2025.
That’s a game changer for the deaf community ❤️
Was just helping an older lady with the self checkout in our local supermarket...
She couldn’t read the screen, no idea how to pay, the whole process was confusing and isolating. No staff to help.
I am Mr Digital, but it’s not progress if we’re leaving so many people behind.
Thoughts with anyone who’s gone back to their family home early to work remotely these last two days and dealing with their parents every five minutes…
“Oh are you still working?”
“Can you help me get something down from the loft?”
“Do you fancy a trip to the garden centre?”
Not everyone wants to be a line manager…
Yet often the only way to progress at work is through managing more. It forces people into roles they’re not good at and can result in a rubbish culture.
What about promotions and pay rises just for being good at the actual job?
My friends, we have been through a lot together these last few years, but I’m asking you to join me on one more adventure…
Becoming a dad.
Becki and I are over the moon to share that we’re having a baby boy in December ❤️

Hello to the hundreds of people that have followed over the last 24 hours, let me tell you a bit more about myself…
Joking… that’s not why you’re here! The
#InnovationCubs
are an absolute joy, one of them is very inquisitive 🦊❤️
For anyone who’s had a tough week…
In just forty-four days the sun will set at 19.30, trees and flowers will be in full bloom and the days will be longer and warmer.
Hang in there. Brighter days are so so nearly here.
Interviewing all-day today and have shared questions with all candidates beforehand again…
We’ve found doing this leads to a better experience and more rewarding conversations for both candidates and panel.
Would love to see more employers trial this approach too.
We’re going to a wedding next weekend and still don’t know how to introduce my other half…
My girlfriend? Sounds like we’re sixteen.
My partner? We’re not a law firm.
My significant other? 🤢
I may just stare intensely and say “This is Becki, she’s my EVERYTHING”
What a joy this week has been, thanks to the arrival of the
#InnovationCubs
It’s also been a good reminder that social media can still be a positive place that brings people together.
Have a great weekend all! 🦊❤️
Me: pint of Guinness please
Belfast pub landlord: that’ll be £5 pal
Me: *pays with my Apple Watch
Landlord: didn’t recognise youse when ya came in. Fellas, it’s fookin Inspector Gadget in the flesh
😭😭😭
Oh look it’s another Bank Holiday…
This month we’ve had three of them, and nothing’s collapsed. We’ve made it work because jobs don’t have to fit into five day boxes.
More time for friends, family and taking better care of ourselves.
The
@4Day_Week
is the future of work.
Realised today was our rearranged bin day and got them out just in time…
The rest of the street then followed suit and I’ve never felt more like a responsible adult. One neighbour even gave me a nod of respect 🫡

Paddington is a rare perfect movie. On the surface, a lovely film about a friendly (and hungry) bear
But really it’s a story about family and opening up your home to those in need. A refugee coming to the UK to find safety and community. Now that’s the country I know and love ❤️
THE BILL REUNION 🚔🚨
We think this is the first time that my dad, Mark, Andrew, Lisa and Trudie have all been together for over 10 years.
A joy to see them together again 😍
For those that asked, providing all candidates the questions before our interviews was a GAME CHANGER
Such rich, rewarding conversations and, from our perspective, we will definitely do this for future roles
I’d encourage seeing if you can do this when you next recruit.
Good morning! 🦊🦊🦊
Excuse the mess, that was mum digging out our den over the weekend.
We’re gonna leave things how they are until the
#InnovationCubs
are a bit bigger and stronger ❤️
Interviewing for our new role and we will be sharing questions with all candidates beforehand…
We’ve found doing this leads to a better experience and far more rewarding conversations for both candidates and panel.
There really is no reason why all employers don’t do this too.
Hearing from many going back to the office just to sit on video calls all day…🤦🏻♂️
In-person stuff is important, but it’s got to be well-planned and for a purpose.
Not just because it’s a Thursday. Not just because the boss likes to see the office busy. Not to save Pret. 1/3
So came home from a weekend away to a lot of disruption in our garden…
I was about to go sort it out, when two little faces popped out. They’d been born under our shed over the last few days.
It’s the Innovation Cubs ❤️
Ugh. The renting vs buying a house conversation has started up again
So here are the numbers for the next time you’re in a “young people just don’t know how to save anymore” argument
However you’re spending your weekend, I hope it’s brought you and your loved ones joy.
Since the
#InnovationCubs
arrived, we’ve loved seeing you share the photos and stories of the animals in your lives. Keep them coming! 🦊❤️
It’s taken these days off over Christmas to realise how hard the last few months have been…
Burnout is no joke. So the lesson for next year is to take more frequent breaks, say no to more things and seek proper rest.
Invest in yourself in 2023.
Wonderful news that the National Trust have successfully grown seedlings to eventually replace the beloved Sycamore Gap tree…
Our brilliant charities aren’t just here to solve problems, they also conserve and protect what we already have 🪴
However you want to spin it, requiring staff to be in an office 3-4 days per week is just not flexible.
Not only is it really sad to see employers take backwards steps on this, it’s doubly annoying to see such roles still promoted as flexible.
Red flags for a dodgy culture.
Fox cubs update: we think there are three, likely born on Saturday or Sunday.
Mum is doing well, all three seem to be taking milk, even out in the garden. Their den is under our shed, nice and safe.
Helping mum with some extra food, cos this rabble are a handful 🦊 🦊 🦊
“For 3 years we’ve been able to work flexibly, but just been told that we now have to be in the office 3 days per week. So many people are leaving.”
People have made MASSIVE life changes thanks to increased work flexibility.
Offering it and then taking it back is just not on.
BOSSES: we want you back in the office three days a week
STAFF: but I’m so much better at my job with the flexibility
BOSSES: our culture is suffering
STAFF: but I get on so much better with people now
BOSSES: look we paid for this big office, now it’s empty and we look silly
Back to work for most of us tomorrow, so it’s only natural to have some anxiety tonight.
Look after yourself, treat others with kindness. Not everything needs to be done immediately.
Starting with slow and steady purpose is an investment in your 2023.
Some positivity for those who are having a tough time at the moment…
In just six weeks the sun will set at 19.30 and brighter, longer and warmer days will be here again.
We’re so nearly there gang 🧡
Staff burnout is a huge issue right now…
But I’m done with wishy-washy half measures like online wellbeing hubs, desk yoga and breathing exercises when the actual solutions are right there.
Better pay, fully flexible working, realistic objectives and a

Ugh. So the “it’s easy to get on the property ladder” conversation has started up again…
Once again, the numbers for the next time you’re in a “young people just don’t know how to save anymore” argument
Happy wedding anniversary to my parents -
@GrahamcoleAct
and my wonderful mum (who very sensibly isn’t on social media)
Look how cute they look back on their wedding day. Love you both ❤️
Whether you’re still working on this hot Monday or on holiday, here’s a little joy to start your week…
Search ‘cat’ on Google and then tap on the paw icon. Then keep tapping. 🐾
Have a good week ahead 🥰
Having a lovely time on holiday, but one sour note was seeing these donkeys…
Such sweet, good natured animals being forced to lug tourists up-and-down 500+ stone steps all day.
So sad to see. We need a ban on all animals being made to work for our leisure and entertainment.
I’m cooking up a new charity innovation forum (likely launching in April/FY Q1) which would platform the freshest ideas, processes, technologies and speakers…
If you’re interested in hearing more like/RT/comment below and I’ll DM you when launch plans crystallise

Paddington 2 is a near perfect movie. On the surface, a lovely film about a friendly (and hungry!) bear.
But really it’s a tale about family and integration. A refugee coming to the UK to find safety and community. That’s the country I love ❤️
There’s Sunday night anxiety, and then there’s Sunday night ahead of the biggest week of your career anxiety…
Sending love and good luck to anyone else also going through big things at the moment.
Would appreciate any extra positive energy you can spare this week 🙏🏻
“We don’t understand why more people aren’t coming back to the office…”
Ummmm… stop trying to bring 2019 back? It’s not happening.
Instead of fixed office days, try organising planned and purposeful in-person team events that foster a new culture fit for where we are now.
Remote working doesn’t mean you have to be permanently online during work hours…
It seems that for some employers “if you’re not active on Teams, then you’re not working” 🤔
Not only is this crappy management, it promotes such an unhealthy always-on relationship with work.
So about that news we had to keep quiet last week…
It means the world to be me to become Managing Director and an owner of THINK today.
The last four years have been truly wild, but the community I found on here played a huge part in making this a reality. So thank you all 💜
Remote working doesn’t mean WFH

Remote working doesn’t mean WFH…
It’s the flexibility to work wherever and however you want to be happy and healthy in your role.
So begins the last week of my 30s and I’m not exactly where I thought I’d be by now…
Not married, don’t have kids and I’m still renting. But I have my business, my grumpy cat and an amazing girlfriend.
You can spend your whole life chasing stuff and miss EVERYTHING ❤️🙏🏻
Seeing more and more employers enforcing 2-3 mandatory office days again, and it is such a step backwards.
More flexible working opens up accessibility, it’s better for families and far less London/South East centric.
Give staff the choice to work where and when they want.
My mental health has massively improved since not having to commute every day.
So much so, that I know I’ll never work from an office ever again.
Employers that aren’t embracing flexibility are hugely limiting their candidate pool.
Happy 39th wedding anniversary to my parents -

Happy anniversary to my wonderful parents, who have been together 50 years this week…
They first met in Summer 1973 as holiday camp reps in Camber Sands and have been together ever since. Love you ❤️
We don’t talk about generational inequality enough.
Those over-40 just don’t get how much harder it is to start a family, build the career you want, buy a house…
If you were born in the 1980s/90s the rules changed and we’re desperately due our own leaders who get this.
After one of the more challenging, complex, but successful weeks of my career… I bought myself some flowers
a. I deserve them
b. it should be way more normal for men to treat themselves in such a way 💐
The audacity of the Tories to think they can just anoint a third Prime Minister without going to the people now.
They will cling on to power for as long as possible, but deserve to be smooshed into oblivion for constantly putting party over country.

It’s
@GrahamcoleAct
’s birthday party today and I finally got to give him his present…
I’ve always loved this photo of Stamp. Mid-chase after he falls into the River Wandle in South London.
Happy 70th dad ❤️
Our relationship between work and grief is so messed up…
With no real statutory bereavement leave, employers have no real obligation to give staff sufficient time off.
So if your boss has little experience of death, you can be left entirely unsupported. It needs to change.
So proud of my dad at the moment…
Opportunities for older performers can be few and far between, but this week alone he’s launching his new horror film, speaking at a literary festival and doing press for his upcoming panto
Versatile, resilient and timeless 🤩❤️
What if we just didn’t do work emails and meetings in August?
So many people are off anyway, instead we used the time to focus on personal development and those side projects that never get done.
Just a blissful month of learning, growing and decompressing.
My girlfriend got me these flowers to celebrate some big news and we really should normalise blokes getting these kind of softer moments…
We’re good at toasting over a pint, but these kinder, purer “you did that, well done” moments is why we don’t talk enough about stuff ❤️
Still hearing from many going back to the office just to sit on video calls all day…
In-person stuff is important, but it’s got to be well-planned and for a purpose.
Not just because it’s a Thursday. Not just because the boss likes to see the office busy.

Whatever your opinion on the institution of monarchy, there’s a human being there whose service to good causes is unparalleled…
No one in history has done more to represent and champion charities than the Queen, and no one will ever come close again.
Older white men: back to the office!
Everyone else: we quite like the flexibility. More time for family, friends and a better work/life balance
Older white men: but the economy!
Everyone else: *looks at the economy* what if it was built around us and not you
Not me worrying about something all weekend (to the point of not sleeping properly) that took less than 20 mins to solve today…
I wish there was a way to send Future You back in time to tell Past You to chill and know it’s all going to be fine
I guess we worry because we care?
For anyone feeling Sunday night dread this evening…
That thing you’re worrying about will soon lose its heaviness. New opportunities will replace old challenges. You’ll persevere and find better days ahead.
A job is just a job, work is just work. You’re more than enough ❤️
Sending love to those who are finding it tough tonight. Big feelings can hit us over Christmas for so many reasons…
Thinking especially about those who have lost family, a friend or pet this year and hope you find some comfort and peace over the next couple of days ❤️
We are addicted to meetings…
Since March 2020, the average number of meetings we attend has risen by 13.5%.
And up to 70% of meetings are deemed ineffective, keeping people from doing actual work.
Let’s start saying no to meetings that aren’t purposeful and well-organised.
Finally tackled a work task today that I’ve been stressing about for weeks…
It took me seven minutes.
Why do we let these little things hold so much weight over us?
Apologies for the lack of fox updates over the last week, but we really needed that holiday!
Pleased to report the
#InnovationCubs
are still here and are growing FAST.
Helping mum with a double portion of dinner tonight to make up for our very selfish time away 🦊🦊🦊
The armband is the final straw.
I can’t watch England at this World Cup and still call myself an LGBTQ+ ally. Every small gesture has been shut down or u-turned on. It’s a disgrace.
So instead of watching it, I’m going to share 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ content during each England game…
Happy 70th birthday to my hero, the one and only
@GrahamcoleAct
Actor. Singer. Teller of overly long anecdotes. Charity ambassador and all round living legend. The world is a much more joyful place thanks to your irrepressible charisma and light.
Love you dad ❤️
Being easy to work with is such an underrated skill…
Do you lift others up? Do you bring joy to your work? Do you make it a better place to be?
Years from now no one will remember the specific things you worked on, but will remember exactly what it felt like to work with you.
I’ve lived in London for my entire 37 years. Never been outside the M25 for longer than a month. As London as London gets.
BUT there is no need for so many charity jobs to be tied to this city. Embrace remote. A national charity’s resources do not need to be tied to London.
First Christmas staying with my girlfriend, her mum and sister…
They have a festive routine that has not been disturbed by an outsider for more than 20 years.
Please send me your tips and positive energy. I’m just a bit nervous 🙏🏻 ❤️
One observation…
The vast majority of anti-remote working comments I’ve received over the last week are from 40+ white men.
It’s almost like it might be more about retaining power, control and protecting careers than it is actual effectiveness, flexibility and life balance 🤔
“Heartbroken. I’ve had to leave a job I love and am very good at, because they wouldn’t budge my salary after 5 years of hard work.”
Hearing this time and again right now, when will some employers get it…
Recruitment is ALWAYS more expensive than retaining great staff.
Nothing like back-to-back four day weeks to remind us that another way of working is possible.
The latest UK
@4Day_Week
trial results
showed burnout down by 71% and sick days down by 65%.
Imagine being this refreshed and energised every single week.
Not only should that meeting have been an email, but that email should’ve been scheduled for January…
Let’s be kind to our burnt out colleagues and not give them new things to worry about as we wind down for a much needed rest 🙏🏻
Took some time to process the loss of Matthew Perry, because I see so much of him in me…
My sense of humour was undoubtedly massively shaped by Chandler, but his openness about his mental health and addiction helped me so much.
Men, talk about your problems. Rest in peace 💔
We have absolutely loved this series of
#RaceAcrossTheWorld
- is it the best one yet?
It’s been an absolute joy to just have a show that focuses on the good things in life - family, friendship and adventure ❤️
Like for many, my mental health the last few years has not been good at all…
But something in me switched back this week in Greece, and that feeling of inner peace is so so powerful.
Long may it last 💙
A key part of the office vs remote debate is how much time is wasted commuting.
On average, you’d save 10 hours a week, or ~450 hours a year, by not commuting to an office.
The debate isn’t remote vs office…
It’s remote vs office + commuting. For many, that’s the dealbreaker.
The “everyone is a fundraiser” mentality diminishes what great fundraisers do.
It’s a challenging profession that requires commitment, tenacity and many reps to get really good at.
You don’t hear “everyone’s an electrician”. So stop it.
Paddington is a near perfect movie. On the surface, a lovely adventure about a friendly (and hungry!) bear.
But really it’s a tale about a refugee coming to the UK to find safety, acceptance and family. That’s the country I love ❤️
So many people I work with are switching to a
@4Day_Week
or 9 day fortnight! 🙌🏻
A flexible, family-first approach is the future of work. Your value is not, should never be, defined by the number of days/hours you work.
Employers, work has changed. Offer people what they want.
We don’t talk about the environmental cost of virtual meetings…
Did you know that a one hour video call on Teams/Zoom pumps 1kg of CO2 into the atmosphere PER PERSON?
So just the small act of switching your camera off when you don’t need to be on screen makes a difference.
I’m very emotional tonight…
My entire working life has been under the shadow of austerity and terrible leaders making decisions purely for the benefit of their mates.
Open the doors. My generation is ready and more than capable to lead us into a better future.
One immediate change that will make you and your teams happier, healthier and more productive…
Shorten all hour long meetings to 45 minutes and all two hour meetings to 90 minutes.
It’s an absolute game changer.
