For all those auditioning... Never underestimate how much it secretly pleases the audition pianist if you genuinely offer thanks afterwards... Especially if we've jumped around/cut bars etc in order to follow you! Today someone said 'you're really very good!' to me...(Chuffed 😁)

Playing for auditions can be a solitary job - sitting by the piano in a corner being generally ignored by the team...or like today, can be a lovely day of playing nice rep, for a great creative team, and feeling valued and respected. (Followed by prosecco in the pub). 👍😁🥂

You don't regret the things you've done - you regret the things you HAVEN'T done. 25 years ago having finished my music degree, I was flying C130's in the RAF. Wanted to MD but was told it wasn't a career choice for girls as they wouldn't have the respect of the band. Ha!

This makes me happy! When I play for graduating year MT students at college, and I say to them 'hopefully the next time I see you will be in a pro audition room' . Then I end up playing for them in a pro audition room and they get the job. THAT'S the way it should be 😀 !

I love giving song rep suggestions and particularly like suggesting ‘out of the box’ choices... which are often ignored as people are scared of them. How FABULOUS when someone goes with my oddball choice; learns an unknown song; nails the audition and gets the role. Happy MD😁

@SimonCalder It's all absolutely ridiculous. There are a HUGE amount of infectious illnesses out there and we don't expect pax to be tested for those! Why is Covid any different? I would be happy to travel today, to anywhere, if I wasn't locked into this country by the government.

Well @ComeFromAwayUK was outstanding. Amazing ensemble and band. Hubby (Virgin Atlantic pilot) loved the Virgin Atlantic pilot cameo 🤣. As an RAF C130 pilot I regularly flew into Gander...remember getting screeched in! Fabulous.

Excited to be Musical Supervisor on 'Kathy and Stella Solve A Murder'! It was a huge hit at Edinburgh last year, and is now being expanded and not only returning to Edinburgh but having a run at Bristol Old Vic and Manchester in the autumn.

@jayrayner1 My sis would quite agree. She's been vegetarian since she was a child but is extremely partial to cheese and was dismayed when her favourite restaurant replaced 'courgette flower stuffed with goats cheese and drizzled with honey' to something with vegan non cheese and no honey!

A student just came into audition (I'm not at Trinity this week) and told the panel she was currently a student at La Guardia High School of Performing Arts in New York. I'm not sure the panel were hugely impressed when I immediately burst into 'Fame' on the piano. 😂🙄😳

It's with a desperately heavy heart that I make this posting. After a period of ill health, @vgatt (Iain VG) passed away peacefully in hospital, surrounded by his friends, on Wed 1 January. Please raise a glass of vodka and diet coke to him, and call him a **** for leaving us!

I used to be aggrieved in the RAF...being talked about cos I'm a FEMALE pilot - rather than cos I'm a GOOD pilot. So I'd like to be able to say the same in the theatre world - book me cos I'm a GOOD MD, not because I'm female. But bugger it, if you want a female MD, then hello!😂

Course leader brought his dog into rehearsal. I er...decided (mid staging) to see if the dog responded to the 'dog bark' sound effect on the Roland. Answer is 'yes' and it wasn't disruptive at all when he lept across the stage to find the 'other' dog! (Sorry team' 😳🤣)

Had an excellent day of zoom recalls for @chiuniMTP January production of 'Cry Baby'. Congrats to ALL the students who'd put SO much work in. We've got ourselves a great cast, and the (fabulous all female) creative team actually WERE unanimous in casting decisions! Roll on 2021!

Played 'Finishing The Hat’ in auditions for years; this week I'm accompanying the @TrinityLabanMT winner in the Gold Medal Comp. (Against the strings/piano etc). Done more practice on the one piece than I have in years. Need to play ALL the notes AND in the right order 😜.

Can I just say that I absolutely don't WANT to work from home. I want to work in rehearsal studios, in theatres, in theatre colleges, in audition venues. I want to make music with people; create theatre and collaborate...for me, commuting is a small price to pay.

I absolutely abhor bullying in any form. It's a real 'button' of mine. So it's saddening to see cyber bullying happening. Yes, everyone is stressed and anxious at the moment, but taking out general grievances on individuals is simply NOT acceptable. Be kind or don't tweet.

18 years ago today in the RAF I was tasked with flying the Hercules out to McCarran airport in Vegas. Keith was on the aircraft. We always said if we ended up in Vegas at the same time we’d get married. So we did. Crew dressed up as Elvis (McElvis)! Happy Anniversary @KeithJDR

Just had my first afternoon back at theatre college teaching Acting Through Song - with students face to face! Yey! (Albeit at 3 metre spacing etc). I don't think I've ever been so happy to be back in a studio! It was all very Covid secure and well thought through 👍👍👍🥰

Popped into M&S on the way to work to treat myself to a couple of apple/ginger shots. Swiped my Sparks card and it announced I’d won my shopping for free! Glad to see that the Sparks promo DOES exist, but wished I’d bought dry aged steak and a case of champagne 😂

Day 1 of rehearsals: MT notereading performers happily singing thru the score; non readers laying down notebashes and listening religiously every spare moment. Day 6 of rehearsals and first day of scores down: Sightreaders struggle; Non readers off copy. Swings and roundabouts!

Such an unpleasant trend of criticizing people on Twitter rather than being pleased for them ie how dare they get cast again: how dare they lose weight: how dare they go on holiday. We all have to deal with envy but why shout on social media? It just hurts others. Be kind.

My Mum died in May. I'm finding this whole time really triggering. Just remember that I'm probably not the only one; if a friend of yours doesn't seem to be invested as much as you in all the events at the mo...Personally I need to just turn the TV off.

Such a lovely day today. Spent the morning working on Acting Through Song with superb students @TrinityLabanMT . Then whilst waiting to meet @MindTheGalp for lunch and 'MD natter', bumped into @jessica7martin - who's coming round tomorrow to start work planning her new cabaret!

@munchkindamo I was playing auditions on a Clavinova - it was greatset moment of joy in the audition - I switched to 'vibraphone' for the 'ding dong' at the beginning! 😀😂

What a good start! Made it to #pret just before it closed so I could get a pre-gig coffee. They offered me a pastry on the house. I chose an oat cookie (of which there were two left) so he gave me both! Definitely supporting Pret! 😁

First couple of weeks of January are always quiet workwise.... And at this moment it's advised to socialise outside...so we decided last minute to head somewhere warmer to sit out! On our way to Barbados 😁🌞😎🌴🥥

When there is a twitter request for suggestions for a muso/creative/performer and you add a recc for someone you think is great to the long list of reccs, and then you find they got the gig....as good a feeling as getting a gig yourself. Honestly! 😊😊😊

Interesting! 'Taylor The Latte Boy' seems to be coming back into fashion in auditions after about a 5 yr hiatus. Audition rep is like clothing...no point chucking it out cos at some stage it'll come back into style!

First day of workshopping a fabulous new show @ArtsEdLondon that Martin Milnes has created using Ivor Novello's music. And Eileen Page came to visit! Amazing! She bought me a G&T in the pub and talked about seeing The Dancing Years in 1939! I'm buzzing!

Been playing for a rehearsal in town for a show...and out of the small cast there's 2 @TrinityLabanMT grads that I've worked with and an @LCMLive grad that I taught in 2nd year. Absolutely makes my day to see them working professionally!
