Power and performance like never before (5x more powerful than gas and 3x more than other induction). Uplevel everyday cooking and save time at each step!
This is the Impulse Cooktop, aka the most powerful stove. Thanks to a special combination of AC (the power from your wall 🔌) and DC power (the power stored in the built-in, high power battery 🔋), the Cooktop delivers impressive high performance, without overloading your
with the Impulse Cooktop, maintaining a low, even simmer for a giant pot of stock is as simple as, "set temp and leave it" ... no fiddling with a flame or adjusting the heat. bts from a visit this week with a special guest who showed us how it's done 🧑🍳.
(ps - yes, large stock
Battery-powered appliances:
1. Can replace gas appliances without expensive rewiring
2. Store energy from the grid and smooth out the solar power curve
3. Are extremely high-powered, due to fast-discharging batteries
That's an impressive combination.
A fun trick of “set stove to 330F” is you don’t have to be a particularly good cook to get stuff to release from a stainless steel pan — it won’t burn but will rather dehydrate and then de-stick.
And browned bottom + runny yolk is easy to get.
1/ we're firm believers that induction is the better option when it comes to cooking and the environment, but we also know there is a lot of misinformation out there - time to debunk some of those myths ...
“The natural gas industry doesn’t like when people electrify any of their appliances, but their biggest issue is when customers fully electrify their home.”
🔋⚡️🔌
We break it down in this week's blog post:
Pulling the Plug on Gas’s Lifeline 👇
Don't forget, we're at

New research on gas stoves and childhood asthma
--> 12% of current US childhood asthma attributed to gas stove use
--> comparable to children’s risk of being exposed to secondhand smoke
--> IL = 21.1%; CA = 20.1%; NY = 18.8%; MA = 15.4%; PA = 13.5%
Due to the use of off-the-shelf components that pass compliance from a handful of upstream vendors, many appliance brands can’t do stuff like this.
But if you approach this as “make the best device from first principles” (and have an awesome team) — you can.
“It’s getting to a point where the environmental options are the better options, versus there’s some compromise, like my straw dissolves in my drink etc” ... “paper straws are the counterpoint of what we’re doing. The product is good, and it’s good for the environment.”

So $5500 for 3 kWh or $1833/kWh. That's only ~80% more than the cost per kWh of an installed Tesla Powerwall a (~$13-15k installed for 13 kWh) and the Powerwall won't boil water for the kids pasta in 6 seconds! Not bad.
We just posted a very exciting hardware product management role -- and tipping my hand here, this isn't just about stoves. We're building infrastructure that enables across the board reduction in grid and residential peak loads, while enabling vastly more renewable deployment.
We've got an incredible team at Impulse from both big and small cos making this possible! It's a vision we all stand behind and are deeply committed to making it a reality (and getting our product in the hands of our customers). 🙌

Most utilities have a pricing plan that gives you discounts for using electricity during off-peak times, like during the morning or midday.
Use it right and you could (probably) lower your bill.
It’s called Time-of-Use billing. Here’s how it works 🧵
LA's severe weather alerts are another moment in a summer defined by its heat waves.
In fact, American's electricity bills have gone up 15.5% since last year. You may have even gotten asked by your electricity provider to reduce your use of air conditioning.
Enter: Demand
the 3 kWh battery in the Impulse Cooktop means higher performance (10 kW burner peak power), easier installation (works on 120V or 240V connections), back-up power during outages (approx. 3 meals), AND less strain on the grid during peak hours for cleaner energy use

What we’re doing is realizing that batteries are kinda boring, but we need to deploy a lot of them — almost like wires, to remake a grid that works over time as well as space

The good news: more electric appliances, like the Impulse Cooktop, are being built to plug into a 120V outlet.
🔌🔋
These plug-and-play appliances mean you can get all the good of electrifying (& in the case of stoves, a simply better stove) without having to renovate your home.
Historically, this has been unfortunate for anyone who can’t just shift their life around to use electricity during off-peak hours.
But batteries are changing that — here’s how:

Why does it feel so complicated to install an induction stove in your home?
Because many American kitchens aren't actually wired to handle traditional induction stoves.
Here's why—and one way you can get around it:

And you may, in some cases, want to take advantage of savings without having to stop cooking or cleaning. In these cases, there is an alternative: appliances with integrated batteries.
We've been thinking a lot about how we make demand response (and grid flexibility/stability)
🍳40M+ US households cook w/ gas stoves
🫁Children living in these homes are 42% more likely to experience asthma symptoms
🚙The annual methane emissions of these stoves = emissions of half a million cars
But superior gas performance has stymied electric adoption.. until now
Not all demand response programs are built the same, but they all have the same goal: to reduce energy use during periods of especially high demand.
While AC in summer is a big part of demand response, it’s about more than just air conditioning—it applies to all of your

we've found that our 9" burners work well with most pan sizes, both large and small - the raised burners creates additional space to minimize pan crowding. the space in the middle of the stove is for the LCD screen and control knobs
At Impulse we believe exceptional design AND innovation go hand-in-hand when it comes to making products people are excited to use. We're honored by this award and so appreciate the recognition!
