I feel so bad for the 54,000 people who flew into Ireland in Christmas week. They would only have come out of self isolation last week. They will have missed Christmas and New Year’s Eve while staying, alone, in their bedrooms. 54,000 people.

I watched the BBC news this morning. It showed a live traffic feed from Kyiv. There, at the bottom of the screen, I watched a couple walking past the stalled traffic, carrying only a cat carrier and a small suitcase. It could have been 1939. But it wasn’t. Heartbreaking.

Having spent a day running a business with now only 6 inside tables and 8 SOCIALLY DISTANT outdoor tables... One does feel slightly dispirited, driving past packed outdoor seating of cheek by jowl customers. But we know that we are doing the right thing. @theidahochef

We got our unannounced inspection from Failte Ireland today to check that we were checking vaccination certificates, contact tracing, enforcing mask wearing, sanitising, social distancing and allowing table service only. We are. And on we go…
