@MarthaMcSally
As a lifelong Arizona Democrat, Martha McSally will have my eternal gratitude for singlehandedly flipping both of our Senate seats blue in the span of two years.
Will have more detailed thoughts in the morning, but here we go: POOR THINGS is the best film I've seen at Telluride since PARASITE. Yorgos and Emma Stone obliterate the neo-Puritannical straitjacket oppressing films today with a wildly + brilliantly perverse new classic.
Lots to chew on regarding
#Spencer
, so more detailed thoughts will come later. That said, casting Kristen Stewart was a genius chess move that paid off perfectly for the narrative Pablo Larrain crafted re: Diana. She *will* be in the Best Actress race.

For the most part, Scorsese doesn't script his own films. Additionally, the depiction of Mollie in the film is very accurate to the novel.

@JoeBiden
@BarackObama
Biden won election on Nov 7. His wife and daughter were killed in the car accident on Dec 18. He was sworn in on Jan 5 at the hospital while tending to his injured sons. Ergo, the claim he was harasssing people as a senator a week after his wife (during Xmas) died is bullshit
I didn't need an excuse to revisit Sneakers (as I already do that like 2-3 times a year at least), but if you haven't watched that yet, today's as good of a day as any to see Sidney Poitier share the screen w/ Robert Redford, James Earl Jones, River Phoenix, and other greats.
WOMEN TALKING is one of the best films of the year. Sarah Polley performed a marvelous feat of adapting Miriam Towes’ novel, keeping pretty much all the dialogue while making every effort in opening up the cloistered Mennonite colony and the static locales

The Report is a very tough watch, but a necessary one that asks us to confront our worst actions as a nation, instead of burying them. Minimalistic but riveting, and an absolute acting showcase for Adam Driver. Bening also great as Feinstein.
#TellurideFilmFestival
With THE BIKERIDERS, Jeff Nichols has crafted a vibes-based cinematic cocktail of masculinity - think GOODFELLAS mixed w/ Bigelow's THE LOVELESS. Butler picks up right where he left off from ELVIS, effortlessly scorching the screen with his smoldering looks and cadence (1/2)

panel about “Recreating the Real” out here in Town Park next to the picnic. From L to R: Joe Wright, Pablo Larrain, Will Sharpe, Hayley Bennett, Kristen Stewart, Jeffrey Wright.

mRNA vaccines appear to be a gamechanger as long promised. But we have to hunker down through this current wave to COVID to get to the spring.

AZ mail in ballots require signature validation before being counted, which is audited by bipartisan citizen teams. This process takes time.

Democrats need to ask if Turley is aware POTUS is categorically blocking executive branch witnesses with material evidence relevant to the inquiry from testifying and whether that constitutes obstruction.
@RonBrownstein
If the Michigan GOP does goes through with this, the Democratic House will be well within their authority to both throw out Michigan’s electoral votes for Trump when Congress meets to certify the election *and* refuse to seat Michigan’s GOP House delegation.
In all, Stewart’s work in

is the culmination of all the under appreciated dramatic talent she had showcased multiple times before in her career. And, at least for now, it has vaulted her to the top of the Best Actress race.
ELEMENTAL (dir. Peter Sohn) is the first Pixar film I've seen in theaters since COCO, and although Pixar has never, ever lacked in pushing the envelope w/ CGI visual artistry, ELEMENTAL is gorgeous. Breathtaking throughout.
The Adapted Screenplay lineup overall is pretty strong this year, but OPPENHEIMER is the most impressive film adaptation since LINCOLN. What Christopher Nolan did in making a screenplay out of American Prometheus is a cinematic miracle. Should absolutely win.
We’re wrapping up our Oscar Contenders Series this week with both Screenplay categories, Director, and Picture! Starting with Adapted Screenplay—what do you think should win? What would your write-in vote be?

By saying that Romero’s Dead films are “all the same themes,” I have to question if you legitimately watched and understood those films. Because they all have different thematic focuses, esp. Night vs Dawn.

I’ve lived in El Salvador, I have greater confidence English-speaking Salvadorans have a greater command of the language than most people clamoring for English-only.

Also, people don't realize Gregory Peck himself voiced a political ad against Robert Bork that helped derail his nomination, and would certainly would have opposed Kavanaugh with every fibre of his being.
@LarrySabato
At this stage, Senate Dems need to push for disqualification regardless of the outcome of the conviction vote. There's nothing substantive in the way of doing that as they're not bound to prior Senate precedent.
Now here’s the other layer: Anticipate Hobbs actually expanding her lead over the next 24 hours because Maricopa County is tabulating early ballots received Sa/Su/Mo — those should closely reflect the strong Dem numbers seen in earlier mail voting. ~136k of those ballots remain.
One-point perspective shots? Check.
Haunted by the ghosts of the past? Check.
Losing your sanity in a gigantic house w/ a claustrophobic, oppressive atmosphere? Check.
In a few notable ways,

I'll expect your 3D-printed thoughts and prayers when another Capital Gazette happens. Which is only inevitable, given the way things are going.

If Democrats manage to win the Georgia runoffs and retake the Senate, they need to disqualify Trump for ever holding federal office again on the basis of his impeachment. Only requires a simple majority vote to do so.

Notwithstanding that she's already said it's not Tom Cruise or Hugh Jackman, why would it be Tom Cruise? She's worked with him on *three* films now.
Luca Guadagnino crosses BADLANDS with a dash of NEAR DARK in BONES & ALL, a cannibalism love story/open road flick that is as surely romantic and tender as it is gruesome and terrifying in parts.

Branagh’s direction is assured, Dornan and Balfe are solid, and young Jude Hill is remarkable. Other standouts include Ciaran Hinds and the Van Morrison soundtrack. A lovely film.

Marriage Story is easily Baumbach’s best work. The trailers pull a bait & switch in not revealing how funny it is. But under the many laughs is the boil of a marriage disintegrating, growing steadily until it is lanced in one of the most explosive arguments ever put on screen.
Impending congrats to Hildur Guðnadóttir, who is going to be the first woman to win an Original Score Oscar in over 20 years and the first woman to ever win when that category only has five nominees. I just wish I liked that score and that movie more than I do.
Let’s be honest - The Senate was always a long shot, and we had hope. But if Democrats have taken the House, it opens the floodgates to proper investigation and oversight. THAT IS NO SMALL ACCOMPLISHMENT.
My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school.
Lots to digest with Tár and it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but Cate Blanchett lets loose in a titanic, ferocious perf. as an artist ascending to near-immortal status before a rapid plummet down to being a pitiful mortal again. Earth shattering work.

With this particular narrative and tone in place, Kristen Stewart portrays Diana to brilliant extent. Unique among A-list actresses today with her self-conscience reticence about her fame, Stewart perfectly captures the awkward politeness of Diana’s public persona while…
