All this current chess drama kinda makes me glad that back in 1992, in my only classical win vs. the reigning world champion Garry Kasparov at the time, when I was 18, nobody accused me of cheating after the game. I did earn a nickname of a "biological computer" though 😆
Talking about rating jumps, some people dont know chess history well. I had an elo of 2345 July 1989. July 1990, my elo was ....2650. Just a little bit of a perspective when discussing of what's possible and not.
I have to say, this war is absolute madness and a colossal blunder on the part of the Russian leader. In a chess game, after such blunder, you normaly resign and admit defeat. Its the hardest thing to do because of pride, but it must be done, because human lives are not pawns.
Imho, this needs to be said again. 4 of the world 960 championship participants have been directly seeded into the final 8 event. This is an insult to fair play sportmanship, considering that likely thousands of players had to go through qualification hell. Say no to favoritism.
The long awaited report on the chess "cheating" case is out. Frankly, expected something far stronger. Although, obviously it is far from easy to prove anything in an online chess format. Very interesting read anyway.
Congrats to the last 2 players to qualify for the Candidates. All 3 GP events were very exciting to watch. My pick in Candidates would be on Hikaru because he seems to be a chess Hulk ! Either Nakamura or Firouzja are exciting challengers for WC, imho.
Question to
@FIDE_chess
Now that we have 2nd chess 960 world chess championship cycle in progress, are there going to be official chess 960 ratings in the FIDE lists? Kinda curious to see the top 100 in chess 960. thanks.
Would like to take a moment and join others to wish congrats to
@AlirezaFirouzja
for the huge win at the Sinquefield Cup 2022 and becoming the 2022 Grand Chess Tour Champion.
Ok, I'll just say it once. Based on what is mentioned in the news, Magnus is not going to play in the Candidates. Then it would be unfair for everyone he beat in the world cup not to be given another shot at the Candidates spot as they all deserve it. Let them all compete for it
@Kasparov63
I think you're forgetting something. I was actually the first American challenger for the world chess championship title since Fischer. My match vs Karpov in 1996 was still the world championship match. Having said that, I would like to wish Caruana all the best in his match vs C
Got to admit, the world champion masterfully crafted the match game course to his advantages, making sure Nepo is restrained to passive play and unable to play his usual dynamic or aggressive chess. Petroff with black and with white versus Marshall attack. Smart.

It's amazing to wake up and realize that London system allowed Ding to level the match vs Nepo in today's 6th game. Live recap of the game at 9pm CET followed by the traditional weekly simul for my Twitch subscribers on my twitch channel tonight
While its great that fischer chess is back in the spotlight with the world chess 960 championship qualifiers in progress. The deep seeding of the favorites directly into the finals is very disturbing and runs contrary to the principles of sport and fair qualification.
And now, since I'm here, I'll be glad to mention that my book of selected annotated games is scheduled to come out later this year, I'll keep you guys updated !
Very happy to announce the arrival of my memorable games book, by chess thinkers publishing company. Mighty thanks to all involved, especially the Editor team led by GM
@romain_edouard
Very excited! Thanks to Fiona and ! No prep before match though ) Too retired to do pro work ) besides can't prepare for Vasyl !! He plays everything !
Coming up this Saturday - Ivanchuk vs
@IGMGataKamsky
! 💥💥💥 The format for this match of legends will be best of 16 (3+2), played on
@lichess
and broadcast at . See you there!
Also, such situations should be avoided where players who are guaranteed spots in the Candidates can compete and eliminate players who dont have such luxury. Given that such rules were in effect in the past, this world cup has shown why these were necessary. Bad FIDE 😉
@MagnusCarlsen
Magnus, a quick off hand question for you. It's been 4 months now since chess24 has been selling merchandise with an ffl tag, and i didn't get a cut from sales. i can't get through all that legal firewall that your daughter companies have. could you help perhaps?
@MagnusCarlsen
Well, it's been almost 24 hours and no reply, not unexpected. Now, since we both love chess as the game, let's resolve the matter on the chess board. I have a proposal. 50 blitz game match (3 2). Each game worth 2% of my cut. Final score is what I get. Fair enough?
The Witcher 2nd season on Netflix was aaaamazing. I'm so hooked. Can't wait for 3rd season. Afraid to read the books now after seeing such incredible vision. Lord of the rings's position as number one fantasy has been seriously challenged, at least for me. Excited as a kid, sorry
Obviously huge congrats to both players for a really thrilling to the last rapid game wc match. Nepo, good luck next time. Ding grats on the crown ! But you got big shoes to fill, really huge expectations from everyone for you to dominate all coming future events. Good luck dude
league of legends is dead. too many computer bots are playing ranked games now. easy to spot them, just follows a player, auto attacks and uses one defensive skill only. thought computer cheating is only in chess, but seems prevalent everywhere now.
Finally got to watch latest Vladimir Kramnik's work on greatest modern crisis in online chess, the cheating. Big thanks to Big Vlad and hope it's the beginning of the transparency era in chess. If you want to skip some explanations, watch last 15 minutes.
Just watched 2 episodes of "Queen's gambit" show. Loved the acting. Just concerned about showing teenagers that pills can improve your play (which is highly improbable) Maybe a bit of warning (at the start of series) in case kids start trying it in real life and get problems?
You guys better get some pretty titled chess ladies to commentate on events then. That's how e-sports work ) I mean I have huge respect for Peter Svidler, but can he really compete with Alexandra for pure view count, kinda doubtful imho )
@ghost_of_sasha
Selection of the openings at the very top level is more of an art than science, because so many factors go into preparation. Having said that, there are must know openings like Catalan, Grunfeld, Berlin, Italian and etc. that are required "learning" for the 2700+ Elo players.
@akibashevsky
@Chess__News
Dont recall the exact date we played on, but never really cared about the titles of youngest ever. In chess, for the truly dedicated, there is only one title, and that is the champion of the world.
Nice to see St. Louis do the Fischer 960 event. I have tried to talk them into doing something like this several years ago, since I love 960 chess and always predicted great future for it. The response to my suggestions at the time was muted, but clearly not forgotten! Good job!
Ok, we need smart folks to help combat cheating in chess. There should be a universal test that can is rapid and given in an easily understandable form, in person or over internet. Like Turing test or Olympic doping test. Guys, what you think?
Done first game Nepo vs Ding recap. Help the newbie youtuber (me!) with how to do better chess content and match recaps by leaving your comments for the video.
The problem of cheating in online chess has been present since the beginning. Every month, closes hundreds of accounts of untitled players and dozens of low level master accounts. I'm not going to feed clickbait youtubers. You want respect, earn it first.
Great news. Now, can we finally remove the premove from all prize events as well? It goes against core chess principle we learn as beginners. Each player makes a move only after another player completes his move.

seems like finally have to leave facebook for good thanks to all those new policies with regards to ads and cookies leaving no or next to nothing privacy. dont message me on facebook, not going to read it anymore.
YOUR Ratings based Verified Arena's DONT WORK. Either fix the pairing system or just make everyone play everyone. Just look at the pairings of this 2 hour arena with 10/0 time control. Look at my pairings and compare at the other guy who won a prize. FAIR?
Hey guys, after playing Titled Tuesdays for so long and constantly seeing new young and coming talents, would it be possible to have the official commentary team to invite 1 or 2 guest speakers after the event is over to commentate their amazing upsets?
I was quite lucky to be at the event where it happened. It seems that Mr. Kasparov never apologizes for his mistakes, even when he got caught taking back his move in tournament game, something that even beginner knows, is against rules. Nobody is perfect though, remember )
Haven't been following news lately, but with all the recent AI related everything, surely, the legendary Isaac Asimov 3 laws of robotics are going to be implemented?
So, all the games and championships in online chess that allow premoves are simply chess variants like duck chess, give up all material chess, bughouse and etc. It's NOT original chess.
#RemovePremoves
from online chess.
ok, since everyone loves the premoves so much. How about an official Premove World Chess Championship? Lots of possibilities. Let's make the original chess game obsolete, why not.
imho there are couple ways to fix rating problem. First, either reset ratings yearly to certain levels like in e-sports so people will have to constantly prove their their top ability. or second, only calculate ratings in events with minimum of 50-100 players competing.
@Check2Check
@chess24com
@Kasparov63
Mr. Kasparov obviously was the best player on the planet at the time. However, the title does not belong to him. If he quits the world organization that gives him the title, then the organization has no choice but to transfer the title to someone else, or remain hostage.
wait, it just hit me. I was always wondering like who Rogue steals powers from to get the flying and super strong stuff from. Didn't realize it was from Mrs. Marvel from Marvel universe. So, shouldn't that be like the very first episode of cross over between X and Marvel ?
@chesscom
Question. There is a report button, but there never is a follow up. What is the correct procedure to start the official investigation into certain players possible cheating, with hearings, arguments, updates and conclusions visible to the offended party?
Curious, now with super AI out in the form of chatgpt and all of it's relatives. Can we finally have a universal live translator made? Just so you know, if aliens decide to visit and we have Star Trek tech ready 😉
My physics knowledge is terrible, and I am curious, is the anti gravity scifi idea possible at all? if it can be solved, so many possibilities open up...
@CrazyCory564
@Kasparov63
I fail to see your logic. FIDE has been in charge of organizing world championship qualifications and world chess championship matches since it came into existence back in the 1940's something. FIDE WC Title was Bobby Fischer Prize. FIDE WC Title was at stake in my WC match.
Got to say, this online euro club cup was very tough. It is also disappointing that after going through very difficult 2 qualifying events, to achieve the prestigious finals group and only top 5 teams (out of starting 90+ teams) gets prizes is not very fair.
@Garudapura2
Sometimes when a GM is not sure of the plan, he makes a solid move. I would call this a very solid GM move that does not spoil the position. There should be a similar concept in other board games imho
how can any esports like dota and league of legends claim to be related to sport, when sport is about transparency and fair competition, while your online matchmaking remains secret and biased.
watching game 5 start of dota 2 TI final match. Forgot how much fun these events were. Thrilling stuff ! After game 4, PSG.LGD looks very good. But TS is a comeback kid !
Wow, one my most favorite game from teenage years is back ! Browser played and based on north mythology and just as bloody as modern games ! Have fun :-)
@GMHansNiemann
@chesscom
The fact that you are expert at cheating, doesn't qualify you as expert in any other area. Win something first, then people will take you seriously.
Ah the memories !!! Started with the Kunark expansion myself, and then time flew for the next 8 years quickly, real life taking a back seat. Never ever got into any other MMORPG after, only battle arenas. EQ one love forever ! So, when is EQ going to make its own battle arena?

Quick recap of fantastic game 5 Nepo vs Ding match. The game kinda brings childhood memories of watching incredible Spanish opening battles between Kasparov and Karpov live ! Recap here:
@chess
.com Hey guys, got a suggestion. Since, there are AK rating based pairing which protect lower rated elo guys from everyone else playing in the tournament outside their rating group. Can we have same protection for women maybe? So they only play each other to win big prizes?
ФИДЕ собирается принять Правила шахмат по интернету.
Формально подтвердилось, что все предыдущие "официальные" турниры в интернете игрались без правил.
@Unudurti
Yep, an exciting game for sure ! It is included in my selected games book volume 1 if someone wants to read my annotations to it. Though, honestly, a single win compared to numerous losses versus one of the greatest chess players of all time is not a cause for celebration !
Testing if this thing works. Starting live simul on lichess. org for my Twitch channel subscribers: at approx 8:15pm central Europe time. For twitch chat:
@Jan
-Krzysztof Duda I remember that game. I got into big problems in my favorite opening, London system !! I was very impressed with my opponent, but managed to get away with a draw !!
