Both the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers are frozen over from Alton north. This picture is downstream from Kampsville & Brussles ferries. This ice must thaw, breakup & wash downstream along with most upstream ice on the IL River before we can resume ferry operations. #ILtraffic

Great news, St. Clair County! Repairs to Interstate 55/64 in East St. Louis wrapped up a week ahead of the original schedule! Favorable weather and repairs going as planned allowed the overall $5.2 million project to be completed in only five weekends.

IDOT extends our condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of Illinois State Police Trooper Nicholas Hopkins. Trooper Hopkins was killed in the line of duty on August 23 in East St. Louis while serving a search warrant. We thank him for his service.

The snow is over, but our job is not done. Blowing snow and falling temperatures can create scattered slick spots particularly at night. If you come across a plow, keep a safe distance behind as those big trucks also have big blind spots.

Here are the current Illinois River conditions. The ice floe remains very heavy. Even tow traffic isn’t yielding improvement. Unfortunately, both Kampsville and Brussels Ferries remain closed. We will continue to monitor River conditions & restart operations ASAP. #ILTraffic

Lane restrictions, weather permitting, on WB I-55/70 from IL Route 203 to MLK Bridge ramp, 9A Tues. Oct. 17 to 5P on Fri. Oct. 20. The WB outside right lane will be closed continuously during this time. An additional WB lane will be closed 9A & 4P each day for pavement repairs.
