THREADZILLA:
Beginning my rewatch of the entire Godzilla franchise (with some detours into related films) today withโฆ.GODZILLA. Classic for a reason. Ishirล Honda invented the kaiju genre and few have come close to matching what he did. Masterful
Rating: 10 out of 10 Godzillas
Insufferable ego, annoying entrepreneur shtick, sanding the edges off of his screen persona, increasingly bland film choices, Bautista & Cena emerging as far more compelling screen presences, etc. Really not a mystery at all.

โYou are probably wonderingโฆ what is the director of โMoonlightโ doing talking to me about an eight-quadrant tentpole legacy IP massive film? And I gotta say, the thought was very strange to me at first, as well. But oh
@suspiraserhead
Yeah like I mostly think of these movies as just โpretty goodโ and thereโs a lot of flaws in them but this scene isnโt one of them
David O. Russell could run over a child with his car and confess to it and most of your favorite actors and a certain pop star would still want to be in his movies. Industry full of awful people
@Idk_ask_someone
Whatโs frustrating is it didnโt used to be this way. Used to, even if the movies werenโt good he would at least make some interesting character choices but around 2015 or so he just stopped trying and basically just strolls onto set and says his lines the same way every time
Two franchises not connected to cinematic universes and a perpetual PR machine beating us over the head with three movies or more a year. Because of that when a new one comes out itโs an event. Not really a mystery why theyโre successful. Star Wars used to be this way.
Maybe it's the death of monoculture talking, but I find it genuinely fascinating how the AVATAR series & the 2010s PLANET OF THE APES revival do incredible business & rate well, but leave very little in terms of lasting impact. They roll up, do their thing, leave & that's it.
The Bad Boys movies as they have gone on have become about the tension between Martin Lawrenceโs gleeful embrace of the natural deterioration of his human body and Will Smithโs desperate attempts to remain the same man (and movie star) he was decades ago in spite of Father Time
@zestocles
His Fast appearances are good time capsules for the slow withering of his onscreen persona. Makes some definite choices in his performances in 5 and 6 but after that he progressively becomes just another version of himself. Going from Fast Five to Hobbs & Shaw is jarring
@Idk_ask_someone
And Cena and Bautista both pursue interesting/different roles and try to work with interesting directors while Dwayne just phones it in. Just impossible not to see him in a negative light in comparison
@guymrdth
โWhatโs your name?โ
โDannyโ
โHmm I like that name. Thatโs a good name if I decide to have a child in a few yearsโ
โGee, thanks Mrs. Ocean!โ
Iโm pro โworst moviesโ lists but any list that includes Asteroid City isnโt even worth acknowledging or discussing, move along, nothing to see here.
Ruminating this morning on the CLERKS animated series that was in color, not profane, had wacky hijinks and for some reason had both Alec Baldwin and Charles Barkley in five of its six episodes. I remember enjoying it.
@plandefeld410
Not a football fan but I guess itโs cool to know heโs passionate about something because he sure isnโt passionate about the craft of acting
@BenjaminCrew1
The way they walk back Statham being the guy that killed Han is especially hilarious. A movie after heโs trying to kill the whole team Dom entrusts him with the safety of his son and some fans got mad so a movie after that they established Han was never dead lmao
Very funny that people think I said CODA was the worst best picture ever. I said it was a โnothingโ movie. Itโs certainly one of the weakest but thereโs a difference between being a nothing movie and being terrible. Yes Crash and Green Book are worse but people REMEMBER them
@jayspatrol
Lots of great abrupt and/or absolutely futile deaths in this flick. Big fan of that guy getting suddenly carried away and torn to shreds by pterodactyls.
@j5290
@GoranGligovic
I donโt believe so, closest I can think of is Bautista gleefully shared a tweet where somebody said he was a much better actor than Cena or Dwayne but I donโt think it really became a thing. Feels more like a friendly rivalry type deal
You know itโs kind of remarkable that during the era of direct to dvd American Pie movies Universal never made a thirty years earlier prequel about Jimโs dad called AMERICAN PIE โ69
with this scene from his 2014 magnum opus, โCHEF,โ director and star Jon Favreau informs his audience of one fundamental fact of life:
if you cook pasta, you get bitches
@Name3309
@Slither2006
His delivery of something as simple as โHarbulary Batteriesโ cracks me up so much more than the quips of other characters in other MCU movies. The best comedic performance in the MCU
@ThatBmanGuy
The Academy owes his family a huge and public apology and if itโs too late to cancel the sale of that NFT the entire profit should be donated to a cause that his family chooses
First look at Russell Crowe in โTHE EXORCISMโ
The film follows an actor who starts to mentally unravel whilst filming a supernatural horror movie.
In theaters on June 7
Most interesting part of Daniels backlash is watching people making wild assumptions about their working relationship/who does what/who has talent that they never would with say the Coens or Wachowskis just because they donโt want backlash for criticizing an Asian director.

I thought it was fine but nothing to make a fuss about in either direction. I can see how it would be pleasant for the right people, winning best picture is kind of the worst thing that could happen to a movie I referred to in my review as a โDisney Channel ass movieโ
Jeffrey Wright is the best addition to Andersonโs stable of actors since at least Jeff Goldblum. Just an absolute delight in this and French Dispatch. Pitch perfect
Every other series of Batman films has been helmed by an auteur or at least had a distinct visual style, giving Bats one of the richest and most varied cinematic legacies in pop culture. Well. That was a nice run!
Going to film school when you donโt come from money dooms you to a life of watching classmates with rich parents post semi-annually about how they โarenโt where I thought Iโd be at (age)โ as they work very successfully in their chosen field and youโre stuck at some dead end job.
@odenhead
I assume he got bumped up to a regional manager in between shows for being such a standout employee so he was probably busy overseeing multiple Pollos locations. Bet the government took his 401K when Gus was exposed tho :/

Why does it matter? Sheโs just not into them. Why does she need to be? Itโs like asking a blues musician โwould you ever do a rap albumโ and then saying โnot my jamโ. Who cares.
@AdequateEmily
This falls in a weird spot where itโs a cringey thing I could somewhat imagine a kid saying but at the same time I know a guy thatโs like 40 wrote this and thought it was kinda profound and then they shot and edited it to be a big dramatic moment.
@notgoodverybad1
Second place. I can unfortunately remember scenes and images from that movie. Mahershala is also good in it even though it was a completely cynical Oscar play on his part
AMC removed the footage of this guy spilling popcorn from their pre-roll because some executive got the idiotic idea that audience members were spilling popcorn in AMCโs auditoriums to imitate him
whatโs the lowest stakes conspiracy theory you have? i think airplane mode is a hoax because they donโt want you texting your friends and telling them youโre not having fun on the plane
@BrndnStrssng
Even funnier this time around because heโs pretty unequivocally the lead of this one, dudeโs got Pratt and the gang out there doing the work promoting it while he hangs at home. Total king shit
Like I dunno guys, Iโve seen solo work from both of them and it feels like Kwan is just as on board with the kind of stuff yโall donโt like about EEAAO as Scheinert. Just feels odd and disingenuous.

Didnโt watch this but Iโve felt for a long time that legally backing out of a season renewal shouldnโt be possible (unless itโs something like HBOโs Luck where horses just kept dying on set) You should be on the hook for that shit as a studio that can definitely afford it.
The way these type of posts always use foreign films as an example always rubs me the wrong way. You can clown on people for being pretentious all you want but your spite for foreign films makes you sound like a boring , incurious asshole.
contrary to what people on twitter will tell you, watching 1960s latvian arthouse films or whatever doesn't make u a better, smarter or more interesting person. in fact, it usually just means you're extra annoying. watch whatever u like. the fast and the furious is perfectly fine
@Bonesdrawstuff
@suspiraserhead
One of my friends that taught a film course told me that when he showed The Fisher King (1991) some years back and the students had to write a short evaluation of it one of them just wrote โI couldnโt pay attention to this because it was a really really old movie. Sorry.โ

@RawbertBeef
Also just because they donโt belong to Falcone doesnโt mean some of the cops in that crowd arenโt on somebody elseโs payroll and Gordon doesnโt know it ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ I donโt think the movie is even necessarily saying thereโs that many good cops in Gotham.
Good time to highlight an underrated 3.5 star Starring Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman. Written by Graham Yost it feels like the missing link between his high concept work on Speed and the neo-western vibe of his work on Justified. Highly recommended
@PunishedLobster
I like the movie but I see very little use for watching brand new films in an academic setting, especially ones the audience is more likely to have seen already. Just always felt like pandering when my teachers would do it in film school.
